@@matsbjrnvik5744 Don't do what I did, lol. I bought one for $1500 CAD and have already spent over $8000 more on fixing it. The car is 27 years old after all. Mine has the 3.0 V8. I also haven't tackled all the rust on the body yet. That won't be cheap either. You're better off getting one for $4000+ in good to excellent condition. Then you won't have to worry about rust issues.
@@danyal175 242,000km. I have some bad news about her, unfortunately. A deer ran out in front of me at night on the highway and wrote her off. The hood was pushed right in and the brake lines blew along with the radiator and the transmission cooler. I had to limp the car to work as I was on my way to work at the time. I ended up scrapping it. I miss that car very much.
You don’t need a screwdriver to open the hood if the battery is dead and the doors are locked. Just use the key and open the door with the emergency open procedure: turn the key, pull the handle and turn the key to the emergency open position.
Good to see you rollin' in your 40. 1 - I often disconnect the battery (LOL, guess why) and I can still lock and unlock the front doors and trunk with the key. 2 - What? I gotta check this out tomorrow morning. 3 - mine is originally from Florida so no heated seats, no LSD (though I found some coke under the seat) 4 - 7 owners before me, do you think the flashlight is still there? 5 - another one i have to check out. 6 - one time I did the stomp test the only thing that happened my throttle cable broke, so beware! 7 - Automatic window works on both side for me but not at the same time. 9 - damn son!
You can also lock the car with a 4 digit code using the OBC on the dash, with the car running, hit the code button on the lower right hand side of the obc, enter a unique code via the 1000/100/10/1 buttons and hit I/R, it shuts off the injector cirsuit and will turn over, but won't fire. To unlock, hit the code button, re-enter your code, and hit I/R again....It will then be unlocked.
That cluster self test is also useful when you're checking out an E34 to buy - it flashes the last 7 characters of the VIN number from whatever coding plug is stuck in the back of the cluster. If that vin number doesn't match the one on car's body, you know the cluster or at least the coding plug has been changed out, and the mileage on the odometer isn't accurate.
Again, a dope ass video!!!! On E34, I do remember one thing, I don't know if your car has the original rear end, but if you've got the traction control you can't have an LSD, and if you have an LSD then you have no ASC. On E39, you can have both. The E34 is still today a gangsta ride!!!!!!
10 - If you can't unlock it when the battery is dead - go to the passenger door, put the key in and twist as if you're unlocking it (nothing will happen) then try and open the door while twisting it furher (carefully) and the door will unlock. The passenger door is considered the "master" door if I'm not mistaken so goold luck.
My 95 540i 6spd doesn't have heated seats or traction control but it has the LSD. An easy way to tell (if you don't want to do a burnout and see whether both wheels spin) is to jack up the rear of the car and put it in neutral with the parking brake off then spin one of the wheels by hand. If the other side spins the same direction, you've got an LSD, if it spins the opposite way it's open
Damn... the trick with the hood opening when the Battery dies could have saved my passenger door a couple months ago. Had to open that with a metal wire and some tricks. Ended up breaking the passenger door mechanism... I did open the car but yea, at least I now know how to open that hood. Thanks for the Tip!
Slaziie just put the key in passenger door, lift the handle and turn the key it should pop the button up and you will be unlocked no grief. Try it out man
I am the original owner of a ‘90 525. Use the emergency door opening procedure. No need for screwdriver. Car has many features that were ahead of the times: heated door locks and mirrors, self adjusting fuel injection when driving at different altitudes, the sunroof has a spoiler that pops up when opened, and so on. I drove mine in Germany for three years: top speed was 135, though the speedometer read 150 mph, great gas mileage at slower speeds and great handling.
good video man! the burnout scared the sh** out of me lmao. you introduced me to Nebu Kiniza in an older episode, Ive been watching your vids ever since
Great Tip on the Battery hack! The other hack for accessing the battery when it's dead is the passenger door lock. This is a BMW OEM hack- Put the key in and turn the key to unlock until it stops, then lift and hold the handle up and turn the key further and it will manually unlock JUST the passenger front door, allowing you access to the car interior to pop the hood.
not judging but this hilarious! If you are bugging over this 95 imagine what your reaction would be over the E28. Obviously a 1st time Bimmer owner. Good luck on your journey of learning the car. Here is one for you to take with you look up how to engine immobilizer using OBC
Im not a first time bmw owner lol or I think Im not. I heard the e28 has some tricks of its own. my gf has a 535 so I might try some. I would like to try the code but my obc light went out lol
@@StacheCam ok, I should have said old school BMW. Get that light fixed, obc is everything on that car. There is 1or2 vids out there on setting immobilizer.
12 254(891 tourings) is pretty few,11363 of them are sedans, they made 16 202 e30 m3-s and they are already very rare but production is only few years appart
Yo man love the videos been watching your videos for a long time I have 1991 525i its my first car and daily driver were you get the knowledge to repair these cars man.
E34 wuz my favourite sport sedan until the E39 . E34 was so pure simple and great E39 was the evolution E60 was the marker pen that scribbled all over the picture and I hated them for it.
You can’t open the door when the battery is dead? How come? I know that E34s have two lock position on the doors: regular lock (45 degrees) and, if you turn the key more to the right (90 degrees) what I call “super lock” where you cannot unlock without power and can’t even get open from the inside. Are you just turning the key too far each time when locking? I did that on mine for the first 6 months.
Don't worry about screwdriver to pop the bonnet if the battery is flat and the doors are locked. Just go to the passenger door put the key in the lock and turn the opposite way and lift the handle. The door should unlock.
hash possibly true for me, But my girlfriend is actually really smart. I’m just more street smart. So my street IQ possibly higher than hers but I’m pretty darn stupid
To unlock the doors when the battery is dead, just put the key in the door and pull on the handle about halfway while turning the key and it'll unlock it. Sometimes you gotta sit there and mess with it a couple times, but it'll work eventually.
hey man , how can I do some home repairs of my car , like basic maintenance so that my car is smooth and doesn't give me trouble . the thing is I don't like new cars , the old ones have more character . plus save money .
Well i own an bmw e32 it basically the same as e34 and if your battery is dead you can unlock it using the key mechanically just pull the door handle while you still pulling up twist the key to unlock and it will open just the driver door
You can always unlock the passenger side door mechanically. It's kind of creepy, because you have to put a lot of force to the key, but it can take it, you have to turn it a click past the open position.. The problem is, if you use double locking, you can't open the other doors.
Next time you have a dead battery. Try pulling the door handle, then turning the key to unlock it (while the handle is still pulled). May only work on passenger door so try both.
A 4.10:1 rear end gear in a factory street car that’s not a truck and not a “ Drag Pack”? WOW. It must have a top speed of about 110mph unless it has a serious overdrive gear. Is it a 5 speed transmission? Or a 6? If it’s a 6 speed depending on application generally 5th and 6th are both overdrive gears. Which is nice.
wondering why you'd need to pop the hood to jump it if the battery is under the rear bench seat on the passenger side?? i hate that batteries for these are $250+
i know half of them ... i have the e34 but from 1990 ... btw .. i got the car without that flashlight .... and on my obc i have cruise control idk about you guys .. i got the car used ofcorse idk if the last ower added it or it can be from factory
JODY KURTIS I randomly seen that guy haha did you buy it from some older couple ? You can buy the Bmw pigtail and wire that way which you don’t have to cut the factory harness
I can get in when my battery is dead no problem. my 535i has been in storage for 5 years, and I went to look for some mail that I left inside of it.. the battery was dead, and I turned the key and it unlocked fine.
