Head into the seas the way they were coming to maintain your direction. Also in this area, there are waterspouts, "a strange cloud". This is an ocean tornado. To navigate this area, you have to anticipate.

I don't understand why each story had a different justification when they all experienced the same signs: Thick clouds, flashes, compasses rotating uncontrollably. How does that make sense?

Guys is it just me or everybody found the stimulations nerve- wracking. I like how at the end the guy tries to equate the narratives of legend and pop culture trope with peer-reviewed science, as though rigorous, repeatable, documented and measurable observation is just as much of a fairy tale as any old tall tale told by the guy in the pub. It's not that I think we're always going to be able to explain everything, it's just that people who are interested in figuring out what's really true cannot achieve that by leaping over the most probable explanations to reach for the most sensational (and least likely) explanations. The mundane is, almost by definition, the most likely to be true and therefore, also the most common, banal, and least exciting. That is how the universe generally works, even if it isn't how humans and our entertainment work.

When you read the transcripts of what he said he was trying to figure out how in the hell they ended up in the Gulf of Mexico he thought he recognized the little Islands he thought he was in the Gulf of Mexico and he thought he had to fly East to get back to Florida. If he would have flown any other direction other than East they would have been saved. He could have told each guy to fly a different direction at least some of them would be saved.
