How true, it hurts to see the rapid mirroring of the video clips and the audio wasn't sync'ed with the video. It was done so badly even the copyright holders are not going to claim it as their work.
I have NEVER seen anything like it. Talk about AMATEURS. I laughed and then grimaced at this every few minutes. Thank god the images didn't go upside down now and then.
You are better off listening to this video rather than watching it..there are a few of these interesting videos that have been totally ruined by the editing .
I agree. I’ve watched this down loader before and made this exact comment. I see I have now been blocked. Have a look at another by him. You will possibly be blocked too.
I am usually very good with analyzing faces, and I’m always amazed how I can rarely distinguish Nicholas from George and vice versa in photos. Granted they had similar facial hair but especially the eyes, they could almost be twins.
Their eye shape is quite different. King George had bigger, rounder eyes where the tsar’s eyes were more almond shaped. Then there’s the color. King George’s eyes are noticeably lighter
It is said that even people who knew them well had difficulty telling them apart, like twins there are differences but they are subtle. So many of the Royals are closer than "normal" cousins, not surprising they look alike?
They were both grandchildren of Queen Victoria, who was known as the Grandmother of Europe. I wonder if he ever regretted not helping Tsar Nicholas and his family escape Russia......
@@susanfalconedaquino3623 Didn't they explain in this video about how guilty he felt and how he tried to redeem himself later on by taking in another member of the tsar's family?
These are edited like they are to avoid copyright. This channel is ripping off the people who actually did this documentary and they edit it all messed up to avoid copyright. They continue to get views because lots of people like myself only listen to these while we work and dont care what it looks like. They dont care if its poorly edited because they are basically stealing it from someone else
@@tazkrebbeks3391 because it’s well known that channels will edit videos poorly to “make them their own” .. it’s a way to avoid getting a copyright strike against their channel. If you’re too old or stupid to know this… that’s not our problem but he is absolutely right. This RU-vid channel is not the original poster or creator of this documentary.
To turn their back on Czar Nicholas and his family is a black mark against King George. To sit and allow the murder of the Czar’s family is beyond understanding! I think it probably came back to haunt him prior to his death!
That’s not all he did. While his Russian family ran for their lives, when they arrived in England the crown didn’t support them. QM the jewel collector, bought many of the refugees’ tiaras, necklaces, pins, bracelets, etc at rock bottom prices. The tiara meegain wanted for her wedding was one of the ones from the Romanovs. That was one reason she wasn’t allowed to wear it. Some of the Romanovs stayed with their English cousins, but at a price for food & rent. Then there’s the missing monies deposited by Nicholas into several banks (English too) to be used for his daughters dowery. It amounted to over a billion dollars in todays monies. Disappeared! Gone! No country ever returned the monies.

George V would have been happy to remain in the Navy which he loved. He was cast as King instead. With such pressure, and having a temper, the frustration and having duties he would not have wanted, he lost that temper. The emotion had to explode somehow. Not condoning his actions, just trying to understand King George with empathy.
Just goes to show that an almost draconian upbringing where fear is so instilled into children damages them for life...... a cruel upbringing... George's poor children suffered.....
I always found that strange to, considering that he loved his father and enjoyed a close relationship with him, and he didn’t want to create that bond and closeness with his own children. Apparently most of his kids suffered physical ailments and lifelong anxieties because of this man. Sad
Very interesting, strange......but interesting. Half of it was backwards and the sound track was off some. But still watched all the way through. Maybe you could fix it, that would be nice. Thanks for Uploading.
A tyrant for who? The man put his duty before his own fears and insecurities so of course he disapproved his heir's actions as it's a total contrast as how a monarch must be. His temper I believe was his own way to let out all that stress and anxiety, not the right thing but even today some men do that as a way to cope. Interestingly his second son followed his steps from a second son who prefers life in the shadow to a hard working monarch who led England during WW2
George Vl also had quite the temper. His family appreciated Elizabeth, despite her faults, because she was they only one who could effectively calm him.
To who? His wife and his children. And his Russian family, who ended up being slaughtered as a result. Let me remind you that his duty was first as a husband and father, before God, before his duty to the nation. If you cannot run your own home with love and respect, it matters not if you rule empires!
Prince John was in a smaller house on the Sandringham estate, while many works that mention him at all somehow infer some sanitarium was where he was kept. He was seen with some frequency by members of him family, and while apparently not capable of learning much beyond nursery level, did have friends who could visit, though those of a lower economic order would be the norm. Given his father's volatile temperment, John's problems were only made worse by altercations or loud commands. A separate house on the estate seemed a viable solution. Photos do exist of Prince John, with members of his family, or even with other companions.
See excellent movie The Lost Prince starring Matthew James Thomas Miranda Richardson Tom Hollander Bill Nighy. Shows house he lived in with his devoted nanny, Charlotte Jane "Lalla" Bill. Died at the age of 13 in 1919. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lost_Prince AND en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlotte_Bill
Well, to be fair to King George, he grew up at a time when his son's behavior was not acceptable and when he wasn't expected to accept it either. David, the Prince of Wales, was quite a handful, because not only was he a lothario, relentlessly pursuing the wives of his friends, but it seems like he was allergic to anything that seemed like duty. Regarding Prince John, I do not think he was mistreated at all. He lived with the family until his outbursts got to be too difficult to handle. He was sent to the country to live quite comfortably with his nanny and his staff, and some children from the estate came to play with him. His grandmother Queen Alexandra kept a garden for him in Sandringham which he greatly enjoyed. He could hardly read or write because he may have had more difficulties than just epilepsy. The way the royals treated Prince John was the best that was done for anyone at the time. He died in 1919 at a time when mental illness, neurological illnesses such epilepsy, and learning disabilities were not clearly understood. They are still not clearly understood even today, in the 21st century. I think Prince John was treated with kindness and affection. He lived the best life he could live at the time. He had a lovely funeral at Sandringham, where is is buried along with Prince Alexander, Princess Alexandra's son who died a day old. Not only did the family attend the service, but the Sandringham staff and all the workers in the estate attended as well and filled the whole area with flowers, a very nice testament of the affection they felt for him. Back to David, future King Edward VIII, he wrote to his mother before Prince John's funeral that "he saw his death as little more than a regrettable nuisance". What a prince, eh? So I don't blame King George for barking at him. Maybe to the others, but not to him.
Very True but he was ruthless & he was a tyrant...these facts dont distract from the comment you make . he was a modernist of Royalty and true todays royalty still keep moving the monarchy forward just as George and Mary did. NO One has done more than HM The Queen in modernizing the British monarchy
@@hotoneinspaiHe was not a tyrant. He was a constitutional monarch, the first modern monarch who rebranded, modernized and saved the monarchy in a time when most monarchy were falling. He run so The Queen could walk. He did it first
Like majority of all War Veterans prior to Vietnam. PSTD was never hear of. Most Vets both sides had an hard time adjusting. Anger, booze, womanizing, etc were there way of coping with the horrors they encounter .
Thank goodness for Queen Alexandra and introducing some Danish values . George is a good example of a poor limited education and near total high culture ignorance. He was a survivor and adapted as necessary.
George wasnt an ignorant like you put it. He loved reading books, he was informed on international matters and enjoyed going to cinema and opera in recent years
@@Iosinggamex If Sir Thomas Beecham is to be believed, he once asked George V if he would tell him his favourite opera. ‘La Boheme’ replied His Majesty instantly. ‘And could you tell me why, sir?’ ‘Shortest one I know ‘.
I remember John from "The Lost Prince." He was treated horribly by his father and I can't say his mother was much better. John had a nurse who looked after to him. She was a kind woman, one of whose tasks was to keep John away from his father's brutality. John was viewed as an embarrassment. Given the primitive state of medicine at the time, who can really say what he actually suffered from. Perhaps it was a brain tumor rather than epilepsy. During the last year of George Gershwin's life, his brain tumor caused his to behave erratically. His brother, Ira, was so alarmed that he kept George away from his children.
John had learning difficulties & epilepsy. Brain tumours dont cause regular seizures. My Dad had a brain tumour. It affected his memory, personality, co-ordination skills & his mind. Near the end he wasnt making sense & was talking gibberish . He had seizures where his whole body was totally rigid for up to 25mins, only at the very end, a few hours before he passed away.
When I was young, it was said that Queen Mary wore a high necklace made of pearls to cover up the marks left by King George when he tried to throttle her. This seems to be getting written out of history.
According to my mother, whose aunt was a maid at Balmoral, Queen Mary had attempted to hang herself before her marriage to George, though at what point before, she wasn't sure.
Very interesting. Just a pity that the constant mirror imaging and reversals were so disorientating. This should be re-edited to remove these presentational defects.
Or look at the current Queen’s family. Dysfunctional, infighting, lies, rumors, jealousy (see Harry and Meghan), and on and on. Her Horrible Year continues!
The royals are no more 'dysfunctional' than other families, everything they do (and a lot of what they don't do) is publicised to the ends of the earth. That's the difference.
Can you explain why you do the constant reverse footage thing and keep repeating people talking in reverse under different voiceovers? I am not understanding the concept and it is making my eyes and head hurt. These videos are so great otherwise! I feel like trying to watch them is making me schizophrenic. :-E
Duke Philip sure was! At 99 he had to quit 1 of his hobbies. Albert believed in trains when they were just an idea. 30yrs ago Duke Philip told Parliament to stop talking about Global Warming & DO SOMETHING! That is SMART!
Not every achievement in life requires one to be the "sharpest knife in the drawer"! If you are royal, dedication to duty, discretion, intuition and interest are far more important than intellect.
Lovely how the royals changed their name from Germans to Winsdor... A funny choice with the times, but still cutting their relation with German families, in a typical English style 🤣🤣🤣 Now I bet Winsdor family, after 100 years this "new name" do not like remembering us their older surname 😋
I am far more interested in the death of the king's brother 'Eddy', curiously he gets left out. No books, no documentaries & no films. I wonder why that is?
There are some books about 'Eddy'. I have read that he was described as "backward" barely able to read and not interested in learning. It seems there was a collective sigh of relief when he died from flu/syphilis - whichever account you read. Scandals were narrowly avoided as he was fond of the seamier areas of London and was even thought to be Jack The Ripper! I seem to remember one book was titled, "The King England never had" or something like that. check on Amazon and I'm sure you'll find some. Makes interesting reading.
@@hazelwood-wi9sk Professor Jane Ridley's research for her latest book has said that Eddy's tutor at Cambridge, James Stephen, found virtually nothing wrong with Eddy besides an inability to concentrate. So much bull has grown up over the decades about this unfortunate prince. He may have been not particularly interested in education or serious things, but the "backward" stuff came from his earlier tutor, Canon Dalton, who has himself been exposed as doing a terrible job of educating both Eddy and his younger brother George.
I'ver never understood, if the King was such a tyrant why was he adored by so many of his relations? He seems to have been very popular with extended members of the family particularly...
I bet they didn’t know him well. My father was a terrible tyrant who beat us during our entire childhood and youth but his nieces and nephews only remember how much fun they had playing with him on their seldom visits. No one of the extended family ever knew about the physical and psychological abuse. That’s just how it goes mostly.
So, the three monarchs in the 20th century were accidental monarchs -- King George V, King George VI, Queen Elizabeth (the last two because of Edward's abdication).
I know Queen Mary was viewed as alluff, but she loved the same thing I do-magnificent jewels. It was Mary who made the wonderful Jewel collection of the United Kingdom what it is today. I think if her and admire her, whenever I see Katherine wearing them. Camilla in them is another matter!
George V and Russian tzar Nickolas II were first cousins, their mothers were sisters. That’s why they looked like twins. George married his older deceased brother’s fiancé. And guess what? Nickolas’s father Alexander III married his late older brother’s fiancé. Both marriages were happy ones!
AliCat...I have no idea why you should plant the thought in peoples minds of William being a tyrant as was King George... For goodness sake.. unless you state this is a fact & show documented evidence, Its just your opinion...and there is zero evidence of Prince William having a temper! Of the two brothers its Harry who clearly has a temper from punching reporters to fighting in public with his friends...documented evidence is out there. Name one example of William behaving thus?
George V & Mary were a pair honestly. That woman always has a detached look, or a scowl on her face. It makes me wonder how her own childhood was, for her to be so disconnected. How there was even genuine love there, I have no idea... both of them were cold toward their kids. I wouldn't be surprised if their kids never even heard "I love you" from their mom or dad.... so it's no wonder that the 2 older boys went for the type of women that they did... I've watched plenty of docs that mention how the queen mother (Elizabeth) was NOT that kind of a person behind closed doors & that she loathed Wallis Simpson, but honestly, look in the mirror hunny... you strung your own husband (George VI) along for a while until you finally decided to accept his proposal... the man was DESPERATE for her love & approval of him,,, & men who grew up experiencing healthy expressions of love & affection from parental figures, DON'T fall in love with women who screw with their heads & hearts & act dismissive of them.
Better to just listen to this one rather then trying to watch it. Other than the slight sound glitches, it's very interesting. Watching it though is torturous!
The doctor murdered the king with the support and encouragement of Edward 8th (who wanted him out the way so he could marry Simpson and have her as his queen). The PM stopped this result happening. Edward 8th went on to become good friends with Hitler, who he assumed would make him king again (should Germany win the war).
The world is much indebted to Wallis Simpson for removing (not willingly) Edward from the throne...if not for her the war would have had a different outcome, many more people would have died and we would probably live in a very different world today🤔
the doctor made sure George was dead within a sensible time frame in order to publish the news in the morning papers. is rumored that Queen Mary died the same way to assure national mourning didn’t mess with Queen Elisabeth’s coronation.
Such crap Edward dreaded becoming King the last thing he wanted was the death of his father which ruined his playboy lifestyle. Wallis was non negotiable by that time, he was never going to let her go.
He could suggest to the government that he wanted to help the Romanovs bur he, personally, had no power to do anything for them. He was a constitutional monarch, not an autocrat like his unfortunate (and incompetent) cousin. The PM would have to have taken the King's request to Parliament for them to approve it. Maybe they would have done something but probably not.
Despite the atrocious editing, I stuck with it because of the content. I hadn't known much about George before, except for his denying the Romanovs sanctuary.
Why doesn't, whoever loaded this documentary kindly unload it, correct it's visual orientation and then reload it. Commenters are expected to clean up their comments. It would be appreciated if the contributors would do the same.
This is weird! You Brits say the king/queen has no power and blame the PM for whatever the heck is done to the world and to Brits. Then you say your kings/queens were filled with anxiety of the burden? What burden? The burden of cutting ribbons? Of wanting 1 inch toothpaste on tooth brush (like King Charles demands/needs)? The burden of what? Do you think the rest of us are not realizing how what you say is weird and doesn't make sense? So, was your queen who just died a benign figure head? If so, why do you say she was a great queen? What did she do if she was just a figurehead? If she was the mover and shaker of things, then dang! She did a lot of stuff that were not nice and blamed it on the PMs? Can you explain, please? Because I can't explain it to my grand child who is 8. He has questions. The above are his questions.
George v and his wife mary might have been ice cold ,but they obviously expressed themselves very well in the bedroom ,they had 6 kids................LOL
@@lynnschaeferle-zh4go who cares who you like better? Who asked you? Why do Nicholas fans get so jealous anytime that George V is complimented? In case no one told you, your precious Nicky was a smoker too, and he was the dark one since he was a terribIe Ieader to his people, while George was a compassionate leader. I like George better, he was more refined. While Nicky had a round face and a big head. George's looks didnt change, he remained handsome all his life
A very rough presentation. I felt like I was looking at a first-pass, off-line draft with what appears to be some initial attempt to take at least two previously finished documentaries and rough cut them into a new, third version. Flopped scenes with backward supers, original bits of audio tracks running on one channel with a more coherent, new V.O. track running on the B channel. Result? A rather distracting visual and cut-up audio that makes it annoying to watch. Not to mention the fact, that there is a clear agenda to make George V sound like an absolute monster behind closed doors. George V did have a short fuse and could swear like a sailor when annoyed, but certainly, the intention of this half-baked, first-pass edit presents the late King in as poor a light as possible. George V was in fact, a very good monarch, and stabilized the country during rapidly changing social values and mores after the Great War of 1914-1918. Had his elder brother, Albert Victor, survived to become King in May of 1910, I doubt very much the British monarchy would have ultimately survived. Albert had the intellectual capacity of a rock and was mentally, highly unstable. George V reflected stability and began the first steps towards bringing the monarchy into the 20th century and making the Royal Family more approachable to the people. He succeeded in also enhancing the image of the British Royals as representing the moral and ethical values of the British Middle Class. He was greatly mourned at his death.
And what was he supposed to do? Put his own family, wife and children and his monarchy at risk in a time when he was struggling for survival of the institution?? He put his people first, unlike the tsar, and thats why people loved him. The tsar was a tyrant, George was a modern monarch
@@Iosinggamex Exactly! And if Nicholas was so interested in saving his family, why didn't he send his children, the healthy daughters anyway, abroad to safety at the outset of the war?
Oh and it wasnt up to the King to offer asylum to anyone. Only the british government could do that, not the king. The king can only be consulted, but in the end the decision is taken by the government. At first, the british government accepted reluctantly to give asylum to Romanovs but then rescindered their offer . It was them, not George
This is a good documentary, but true to British form, some of the commenters love to go the route of "tabloid comment," like they actually lived in the same house with King George V: "He really, really wanted to be hiding away with his stamp collection... almost heroic about this little man," 22:43
This was a great look at King George V, but the video mashup was, well, very mashed up. Photos flashing back and forth, audio not in sync made watching this very tedious.
Very interesting story. The swapping of the true photograph for irs mirror image was very annoying. Especially when the captions were reversed and unreadable. This was a very silly trick to use. Why do it? Too few photos?
Interesting documentary but some one needs to review it so it doesn’t jump around, the voices match up with the face and make sure the film isn’t backwards!
I am trying to just listen to this but even just the sound is distracting. I appreciate the uploads. However, when the quality distracts from the subject matter it would probably be best to find a new solution for posting such historical material.
one of the worst put-together documentaries I've seen on any subject, the narration is not on the right time scale and the gaps between acts aren't good to watch,
Any chance of getting to see this without all the flipping backwards and forwards of the video? I’d love to watch this all the way through, but the video flipping makes me dizzy.
Such a horrible hatchet job on this documentary I can't stand to watch it. I hope I can find the "original" or at least a copy that hasn't been hacked so horribly
Was an interesting watch, tho I've gotta say...turning almost every frame around backwards repeatedly became super annoying. Wild exactly how much him and Czar Nicholas looked alike!
CAUTION: DO NOT WATCH IF: You have eye problems, migraines or siezures. So much flipping of screens hurt my eyes and brought on a headache. Audibly it was a chopped hot mess. Better to search out the documentaries that were poorly spliced here as the story of this angry king is interesting.
I'm shocked that Dickie can endorse euthenasia without consent! The King did not wish to be killed He was distraught once he realised what what was being done to him. How terrifying that anyone should take it upon themselves to decide someone else should die, never mind a king! Just evil. Shame on you, Dickie!
What's with the flip-flopping around? Trying to get past the copyright? Where can we find the original version of this documentary? This edit can induce seizures.
Interesting how little the public have to know before they project something far more positive into a member of the Royal Family. It makes me wonder just how bad does a member of that family have to be before they are seen negatively? Yes, I understand the media are a bit less deferential now but the question still stands!
Why do they keep flipping the same picture backward and forward it’s really disconcerting. When you start trying to read the person’s name and title and it’s backward that’s also obvious. It’s someone doesn’t know what they’re doing and putting together a good storyline. The flipping makes me dizzy.
