If you want to level up your editing skills with Final Cut Pro, check out my video editing course "Rough Cut to Final Cut" where I'll share literally everything I know to help you become a true Final Cut Pro: learnfinalcutpro.com
This is the perfect piece of information any new videographer should take into consideration. As awesome as crispy, clean and well shot footage can be, with some extra audio effects it can transform your work into art! Really enjoyed this one
Tom, I love it. I literally just switched to FCPX and was wondering and playing around with audio all last night. Glad you came out with this video! :)
I don't comment on videos ever, but you are great. Thank you for this tutorial and for your interesting videos. Just enough humor, but very informative. Impressive work; keep it up!
Thanks, again. We use audio from our videos to produce our podcasts, so it is pretty important that it sounds as good as we can make it. That’s why I am trying to learn more about audio (after all these years of ignoring it as we’ve been recording music). Since I am responsible for producing and editing the videos, I knew that I need to step up my game in this area. I didn’t know about key frames and ranges, so this is especially helpful. 🙌🏾
I’m so glad it helped! Of course there’s a lot more you can dive into than just these things, but I’ve found these tips to be the most simple/helpful. 👍
Just a quick tip for those watching. I totally agree with Tom on dropping the volume for background music but another work around is scooping the mids out of the song as well. This leaves room for dialogue and often fills up the rest of the frequency bandwidth nicely! I can usually drop my music down -15 to -20 as long as I scoop some mids by 6-8db, making a smiley face in the eq. Give it a try!
@@tombuck BAHA!! Me Too! I was like... uh.... Excuse Me Super Fan! ?? And was suddenly a defender of HEather... until... i realized... Ooooooooh! Right! cool. cool.
@@tombuck Is there any way that I can reach out to you personally? Messenger? WhatsApp? I have some doubts to clarify. Would really appreciate. Thank you.
Thanks for this! I’m learning Final Cut Pro so I can put together guitar lesson videos, and this is just what I needed to help get started learning how to adjust audio.
As you have great lighting and you don’t use an external mouse you could consider covering your desk with felt to stop your voice bouncing off your desk.
BAHA! once you did your Super Stretch arms from that wide angle lens... i couldn't UN See it in every shot after on that angle. LMAO!!! As Always... you got me laughin' while i'm learnin' - almost don't even realize we're learning techie stuff w/ FCPX Everyone watching this video -- Wait For it... Your Finale ... BAAAAA!!!! Literally... Laughed OUT Loud! THANKS @Tom Buck !
Tom, where have you been all my life? Dude I absolutely love how you teach. I’ve been sitting here for the past 2 hours just watching your videos. I’m a RU-vid junkie! I admit. I have to be honest, my lack of skill when it comes to editing is the story telling & how to create the edit not editing it’s self. I do a lot of vacation video with my family. I’m the guy that always walks around with all the equipment filming everything. Then when I get home & throw it all on the computer. I my worst critic, so I fight myself on should or shouldn’t this clip be in this location or should I move it down the timeline. I would absolutely love if you could show us “what goes through the mind of an editor & how you choose to put what, where within the timeline to tell a story” basically tapping into the mind of an editor while putting a short 3min video together. Thanks again Tom & I’m a sub’d to your channel & a raving fan! Take care buddy & thanks again for all your doing to share your knowledge.
If your close to Philadelphia, South Jersey. Can I pay you to do some one n one classes? I’m open to even doing a zoom meeting if your long distance. I really need to learn this & understand this aspect of the editing thoroughly.
Oh wow! I'm honored that you're liking my channel so much! Thanks for the kind words. I feel your pain 100% and have spent many years as the person filming everything only to end up with no idea of what to do with all the footage. Between work and RU-vid, my schedule is pretty booked, but feel free to send me an email (tom@enthusiasmproject.com) if there's anything I can help with.
Great video Tom - I am fairly new to FCPX. I record 2-3 vids a month for RU-vid and now edit using this software. The videos you create are very useful and also very user friendly to the inexperienced, so thank you. There is a phrase I often hear but don’t fully understand. That is when people talk about “mastering to 24 LUFS” which I believe is the optimum loudness level for RU-vid. Is there a preset setting on FCPX to allow me to do this....?
Could you make a video about how to make the slowed down effect for a hit of a song where the video will go into slo mo too then speeds ramp back up? I see this a lot in workout videos
This is a fun/interesting idea! My friend Peter made a video about speed ramps in Final Cut Pro, which is a huge part of the technique: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5vc1X1ykuyQ.html From there, you can slow and/or pitch down the audio to get that bassy-timestop effect.
Awesome video thanks for that shortcut cause I always wondered how to get those up but didn’t know how but now I learned in this video keep up the awesome work these helpful tips are very helpful
The Enthusiasm Project yes they are .. glad I found your channel to learn cause I notice in my video I be like the background music is still too loud with my dialogue talking but now learned to adjust the proper way watching your content great helpful tips
The Enthusiasm Project yes sir I saw it watched it like 3 times and but you with the subscribe also been learning a lot from you and really helps out videos are very educational
When a video is uploaded to RU-vid, do they adjust audio levels for the video to normalize audio for their format? Is there a reason they don't allow users to adjust audio in RU-vid Studio after upload?
I think they do some sort of EQ, but don’t know exactly what. MKBHD recently did a really cool video experiment on the video compression they use. Idon’t know if there’s a reason for not being able to adjust afterwards though...
i just found your very fine channel. thank you for the effort and the sharing. as a fcp newb, how would i normalize my final audio to −24 LUFS which is the standard level for broadcast. does fcp have a normalization preset? thanks in advance for any info you can share. thumbs up.
Hey there! You can add an equalizer/limiter (found in the audio effects menu near the video effect layers) before exporting. You can either creat a compound clip off all your audio to add it once, or create a preset once you have the settings you like. Then just select all your audio and double click the preset to apply it to all of them. 👍
Great question! You can see your audio settings on the export screen, but even before that, if you click on your audio clip in the timeline and then open the Audio Inspector, you'll see "stereo" or "mono" above the waveform in the sidebar. You can choose new options there too (sometimes I'll make stereo tracks "dual mono" if something doesn't sound right).
I record and edit my audio in GarageBand and then import to fcpx after I’ve EQ’d, compressed, processed it etc. it seems to work a treat. Especially because GarageBand offers lots more control over audio. Anyone else do this?!
I can never get my audio right it’s a nightmare and I have no idea what to do. I’ve reached out to everyone and everywhere I can and nothing helps whatsoever.
Audio is just as complex as video. The best thing to do is practice over and over again while learning to use whatever equipment you have to its fullest potential.
