Ms Watson, where have you been these past few years when I was struggling to learn how to get a green?!:) Thanks for such a clear, simple, easy and understandable video lessons on mixing green! Thank you!
Thank you for making greens in a simpler way! Enjoy doing wet on wet “skies” and you want them to play nicely with each other! Kept trying to think of the darkest & ty for mentioning perelyne green as “test” but feel will work (myself) try to stay with single pigment colors after many beginner learning mistakes & purchases!
You're welcome. I like the most transparent one pigment colors because I can use them to mix anything without mud. Phthalo blue, quinacridone red and a good yellow or gold (green gold works surprisingly well) can mix any other color with better results than premixed combination tubes.
Great video. I used to do tube greens but have found, from videos like this, that mixing my own gives me much better results. Thanks again for all the valuable information!
I found this video very informative at a time that where I have become so frustrated with GREENS and... walla...along comes Deb. A million thank you's Deb you have saved me hours of frustration. Much appreciated.💋
@@DebWatson Wonderfully satisfying, when something turns out just right. I am still a novice with watercolours but getting there slowly but surely. Your informative videos are a delight to watch and have helped me immensely. Thank you💋
@@DebWatson I am a visual learner too..😀..n sound cuz I am a Singer.. But I subscribed because even I could not pronounce that word. Hehe..but I love greens, I want to know of every green!
Thanks for the tips. I have found it difficult when I painted a landscape and I tended to use the same color green for everything. I needed to get some variety in my greens!
You are so sweet and I really appreciate your videos! I love everything you do! You are such a beautiful artist! I have watched many and many videos on youtube but I always come back to you! Thank you so much for being so generous with your information! I don't know what I would give to take courses with you face to face!!!!!! 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
i like Qor, my goto is Winsor Newton but they are now made in france and im not sure if they are as bright as before... cadmium yellow is amazing for semi opaque yellow... i appreciate your videos!
Fred I like Winsor's cerulean and cobalt turquoise light better than any other brand, I'll have to watch them closely for changes, so thanks for the heads up.
Thank you for this video Deb. I have green gold and I do like it, but I don't think I've ever tried to use it for mixing. I will give it a try. Thank you again.
Robin Try mixing unlikely things just to see what happens. Some of the nicest mixed colors are rarely seen because they don't seem like they'd work and so no one tries them
Lovely video. Great explanation. So many that I have seen try to persuade new wc students to stick with "student grade " wc and avoid phalogreen as if it were a kindergarten finger painting session. I enjoy using both phalogreens, cobalt turquoise and phaloblue in my greens. My yellows are azo yellow, nickel azo yellow and cad medium. I have also found my quicky "sap green" by mixing phalogreen with quinacridone gold or nickel azo yellow and burnt orange. Oh the phaloturquoise thing. Amazing they sell in a tube eh?And why right? I think your blend was heading towards the complimentary end but there still was far more blue and it only needed to be pushed a bit towards black to just let the remaining non desaturated red color to pop through. Always fun to mix color. Even though I paint it was a pleasure to hear that "you can do it" voice. Great teaching enthusiasm!🤗
@@DebWatson well I am working on a pile to finish and got a notion to make my own hardbound wc books that open flat. So I made 2- 16 x 10 that open to 16 x 20 with 18 pages. And finishing some smaller ones as gifts since this year has been crazy. I find that the wc sketchbooks that are worth anything are more than I could afford. I also learned that Fabriano Artístico makes Kilimanjaro watercolor paper. I found the watermarks. Fabriano Artístico cp charges a bit less. Take care. I subscribed you are a wonderful artist.💌🤗
Debbie - Phthalo green or blue, by itself or in any mix (and there are lots of mixes) stains - your paper, your clothes, and it's very permanent, which is good for the painting to last a long time, but makes it impossible to get out
Thank you Deb for sharing your great information! I would really like to know how you brought the dull painting that you were creating in this video to the bright beautiful painting that you showed at the end of the video. Is it the same painting?
It makes a small difference in the how vibrant the green is. Phthalo is a great color and I just use the straight phthalo from Qor for everything as it's cost effective and works fine.
Hi Linda, Holbein Cobalt Blue Hue is Phthalo Blue pigment, which makes most greens sold today. Their Quin gold is the quin pigment plus azo yellow, which are both excellent colors to make greens. I bet you have beautiful greens.
One more comment - I heard you say you value comments/suggestions. Would you discuss color bias (for watercolor)? I've heard if one understands that, it can help prevent mud. Thanks
Hi Patty, I have seen a ton of people confused by warm and cool, so I usually use color bias, but either should work. Let's start with a primary color - Yellow. It can be warm (leans toward orange/red) or cool (leans toward green/blue). If you use a warm yellow(slightly orange) and a blue, you're mixing a green that has a bit of red (warm yellow) in it, which makes it toned down. If you want a bright green, use a cool yellow and a cool blue and there is no red. Warm and cool - it's a comparison between two individual colors, while pigment is defined and unchanging, so I think there's less confusion, but you have people teaching both.
