The Lloyds building at 2:30 is like that (in simple terms) because there was going to be a tube station underneath it in the future, so they couldn't put the traditional pillar and pile infrastructure directly into the land below, so they needed to put the load bearing structure on the outside rather than inside while maximising floorspace flexibility. The framework is filled with water, so in the event of fire the heat is thermally distributed and withstands longer. There's a great video on RU-vid about it but can't immediately find it.

With many side streets and alleyways being pedestrianised building owners/management companies assume or pretend that allows them to extend their curtilage. Canary Wharf is NOT a completely private development. When planning permission was given it was on the condition that selected roads, or their replacement, would remain publicly accessible at all times. Ken Livingstone, the former London mayor, took savage delight in rebuffing a number of arrogant and over zealous security staff who tried to restrict his right of access on certain roads in Canary Wharf.

I built 22 Bishopsgate on my own, it took me a few months. It's the one right next to the old Nat West building and the Cheese Grater. As far as London goes it was okay. However, I wouldn't go back again.

Agree the security are not the best but the SIA do not teach any laws on public taking pics or trespassing laws. The course falls well short in its content.
