I've started playing recently, played it around 4-5 years ago actually, but I don't remember clowns. What's about them? From the ingame experience I can say that they're pretty OP and goofy, but I don't get the reason why everyone hate them
They're an in-joke inspired by Space Station 13, the game Barotrauma is inspired by. In SS13 clowns are an optional role people play to basically raise hell and annoy people as much as possible, so it's a meme for security to beat them up and arrest them as much as possible.
