I lived in Phoenix for 3 years. I loved going to Sedona. I moved back to my home in Kentucky and married my childhood sweetheart. Sedona is the first out of town date I took her on. Thankyou for the memories.

I just watched a video on Sedona, I think it is one of the most beautiful places I've seen. And then I saw your video & I thought, watching Sedona again, from a different perspective, would be wonderful. Plus the fact that you both appealed to me immediately, coming across as really nice people. And I love the life you are living. Thank you for sharing your adventures.

I have lived in Phoenix for 29 years and Sedona is one of my favorite places and I go all the time. You taught me so much and I can’t wait to plan another trip. Except I usually go on the weekends. Busy time right now! One place I can recommend to you is West Fork Trail. You will actually walk along Oak Creek. Very shaded and so beautiful. Must get there early due to minimal parking. Looking forward to adding a few of these to my next adventure.

Living beneath Cathedral Rock I see people getting rescued due to falls (occasionally) and dehydration (frequently) - don't take it lightly when the signs at trailheads like Devils Bridge say to bring one gallon of water per person. The elevation and desert climate are very different than hiking elsewhere, so start with easier hikes until you know your body is acclimated. Timing is everything in Sedona. Spring and fall are busy but spectacular, summer can be brutally hot, but winter is quite amazing in that there are plenty of sunny days in the 50s and 60s. And if you happen to be around when it snowson the red rocks, you'll be awestruck. Weekends are busier than weekdays, and earlier is better than later for driving, dining or hiking. The 20 minute drive can become 45 minutes between the Village of Oak Creek and Sedona proper when it's busy, so check traffic before you go if you have reservations for anything. It's really sad I need to say this, but when visiting Sedona, please have respect for nature and the places you visit here. In the short time I've lived here I've seen loads of trash and graffiti appearing in places like the indian ruins, people pick flowers and rocks to take with from everywhere, and loud, rude people climb on walls and statues and move sacred items around in religious spaces to take pictures/videos for their social media accounts. Please DON'T!

@cre8tivity06
@cre8tivity06 Год назад
Thanks for the local perspective. Sadly for me I’ll be heading there on a weekend in May so I’ll have to deal with the traffic and all. Any easy hikes you could recommend? I don’t have to be at the most popular place is either. Thanks!
@cre8tivity06
@cre8tivity06 Год назад
Also what will the weather be like (usually) in late May? If it’s warm/hot, is it cooler at night? What is there to do if it rains? I heard restaurants and stores close early there is that true? Is there any kind of nightlife?
@kathionthenet548
@kathionthenet548 Год назад
@@cre8tivity06 There are a handful of music venues, but nightlife isn't what people come here for. Flagstaff is a college town, so it's probably your best bet at about 45-60 minutes away.
@kathionthenet548
@kathionthenet548 Год назад
@@cre8tivity06 It's usually 30ish degrees cooler at night that time of year. And we have found it's truly a rare occasion where we've needed alternate plans due to weather, but if it's more than just a passing shower the rain can produce some amazing waterfalls off the rocks. Just know if you climb to get closer, those rocks get really slippery.

I was going to say I'm surprised you didn't mention Wet Beaver Creek, but I looked it up and that's not technically in Sedona (though it's very close). It's worth a visit, basically a multiple hours-long hike up these red rock paths that leads you to this pond-like area with rocks you can jump from into it, when I went there were tons of people there just chilling. And I mean it when I say "chilling" because the water was cold, lol. Very nice after being scorched in the sun.

@@CubbyVanLife I did go to the Subway Cave thanks to your suggestion. I also went to the Buddah Peace Park that you talked about. Loved both! I agree that Sedona has done a great job blending the buildings/businesses into the landscape. Such a special place. I look forward to following you on your future travels.

I spent a week staying in Flagstaff(cheaper rates) and visiting Sedona around Easter one year. One thing I didn't hear you say was the huge difference in energy between the outdoor sites and the in-town sites(e.g. shops, etc.), despite what you say about so-called environment-savvy building. Maybe they should have consulted an energy expert.
@CubbyVanLife

I’m sorry I’m not sure what you’re referring to regarding environment-savvy building. Can you elaborate?

I remember when you could walk any of those trails and see maybe 5 people the whole time. Or none. The less the merrier I always say.

I’m heading to Sedona in late May. This will be the first time ever in Arizona and the first time ever doing any kind of hiking. What would say are the easy hikes to check out? I’m going there mainly to do photography but I wanted to do at least 1-2 easy hikes while I’m there just to say I did one or two ha ha. I do not like snakes. Did you see more snakes other than the one you had on video? I have a feeling I’ll be watching this video again for more tips I may have missed ha ha.
@CubbyVanLife
@CubbyVanLife Год назад
There are so many really easy hikes, see the first one in the video. Stay away from boulder and rock piles and you’ll be more likely to avoid snakes. That was the only one we saw. Have fun!

Great channel! How do you find the locations where you can camp withyhe van? Is tht a good.app for that of you just surf in google maps along the way? Thanks
@CubbyVanLife
@CubbyVanLife Год назад
Miguel, thanks for the nice comment. We do half and half - use an app and use Google Maps satellite view. The indispensable app for vanlife is iOverlander. We usually start with that. Then if there’s nothing good in our area we look at satellite view to identify out of the way secluded spots. Especially in National Forests. We also just cruise around looking for a spot that looks safe and quite if we’re in or near a town. Last night, by cruising, we found a large abandoned Burger King parking lot next to a big truck stop with a lot of trucks overnighting. Totally cool.

@CubbyVanLife
@CubbyVanLife 2 года назад
Do you mean the cairens? They’re everywhere on the trails so don’t trust them. Many of them probably mark a waypoint but many more are just people having fun being “creative” by stacking rocks.

These were at the entrance to one of the openings of the caves they were pretty high. But like you said it was probably done just by visitors. I was thinking they might have been there from a long time ago. Thanks for clearing it up. Happy Trails😀🌻🌞

I visited Sedona 11 years ago and I remember hearing it’s natural electric energy in random places all around me. Then I went back 11 years later and I didn’t experience any sounds like before. What happened to those vibration sounds? Why did it stopped? Or does it not happen all the time? I’m curious to know if anyone else knows what I’m talking about. :)

Fortunately the Forest Service has closed most places in that area down to camping, thanks to vanlifers and weekend warriors. I hope they close even more of it down, because the one thing you need to know about going to Sedona, is that the locals are sick of you.
