The U.S. Marine Corps awarded a British Royal Marine a Bronze Star for his “instrumental” role as an operations officer with the U.S. Marines in Afghanistan. Royal Marine Maj. James Fuller deployed to Afghanistan as part of the Marine Corps’ Foreign Personnel Exchange Program, which gives officers a chance to work side-by-side with international counterparts.

As an ex British soldier, I got to meet US soldiers and Marines and can honestly say it was a privilege to know them. Great guys and girls, professional when necessary, and a good laugh when not. Civilians cannot know the respect that we have for each other. Very proud to be allies.

three monkeys I dont think so, we may have differences (2 countries separated by a common language) but the mutual the bond will be for a long long time; from my American point of view, and like most of us too (I think), I hope forever. As it says a at Peace Arch Park on the border between Blaine, Washington (US) and White Rock/Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, “ children of a common mother.” I think the same is true with our countries and Australia and New Zealand too.

The US and Royal Marines first served together in China during the Boxer Rebellion but If you look up 41 Commando Royal Marines, Task Force Drysdale and their part in the relief of the US Marines at the Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War for which the Regiment received a Presidential Citation you can see that they have a history, oh and the US Marines have a decent Rugby team as well.

As a British Army veteran of 7 years, I truly appreciate our brothers and sisters in arms, be it American, Australian, New Zealander, Canadian, Danish, French, German and the many more countries that form NATO, you people are amazing and I am massively thankful for your service. Just on a side note I'm not sure if this amazing Royal Marine will be allowed to wear that medal along with his service medals, I remember after the first Gulf war the leader of Kuwait presented medals to all troops that helped liberate the country, they weren't allowed to wear that medal because it wasn't issued by the British government on behalf of our queen. Maybe the rules have changed by now, I hope so. On a final note...HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!!
@philiprowlands1619

Yep agreed, its falls into the criteria of an award and can be allowed to be worn but on the far left of his medal rack. As stated the Saudi and Kuwait medals were campaign medals and under dress regulations you can only wear one medal for a campaign, except of course for accumulated service medals
@blacksmith67

I actually prefer the Commonwealth approach to medals and ribbons. One can do multiple tours of Afghanistan and at the end of your service have exactly one award (two if you get the CD for 12 years service in the Canadian Forces). The Royal Marines are excellent examples of all that best in the British Military. The United States Marine Corps has progressed in leaps and bounds over the years since the end of WW2. Their commitment to Cooperative,closely coordinated and often innovative Strategy and Tactics must put them at the forefront of current Military Thinking and practice. Their size and diversity of Specialties from Armor to Aviation,while remaining true to their primary Credo that 'every Marine is a Rifleman' ensures they face the future secure in the knowledge of who they are and how to 'Stand their Ground' whatever the Challenge they face. It is easy to see where a Royal Marine would not only fit into such an Organisation but also still be able to bring that extra 'Shine' !

Since war can only be declared by congress, I have to say it this way. Its 2020. If you count 1776 as the official year we became the United states then we have been "at Arms" for over 220 years of our existence. We have known only 17-20 years of peace since our inception. We have declared war 11 times starting with the war of 1812 and ending with the last declared war, WWII. All the other " police actions" I guess we just did for fun (?). Point being besides the war of 1812, the U.K. and the U.S. have stood shoulder to shoulder in most of those actions. We were forged in the flames of war and apparently we are rather good at it. I don't see it ending any time soon. Rather I see it ramping up. And who do I want standing next to me, the U.K. I trust no one more than family.

But if you want to be technical since I am discussing war. We began fighting the British officially on 19 April 1775. in Lexington and Concord.
