Probably not far from W VA. I'm from Pa. and my people were from that area of SW Pa. If I could talk my west coaster husband into moving I would move back there in a minute.
Next time you do a stream, PLEASE activate the chat review, coz it is much more fun to watch with the comments beside, it is a relative new YT feature, but one of the best recently. Thx for the tour around. tom greeting
Horses are great... but they are money burners. We spent alot of money on horses for years. Sold them when we moved back to KY and never plan on having horses again...but with a now 3 yr old son...plans may change lololol. North (hubby) always said,"all the horses do is poop in the yard and cost alot of money" lol.
Nice vid of your new property. In regards to sheep check out Justin Rhodes channel, he just got sheep. He wants to use them as lawn mowers also, then meat at the end of the year. The first day out on grass he was amazed at how fast the cleared the patch he had them on.
Karen Gradzki Ah,..sheep taste so good too. Marinate with your mom's garlic and herbs, yummy especially on the BBQ grill. Roast leg of lamb w mint jelly. Awesome for holiday. Your farm is beautiful.
Also, Austin, duck eggs. Allergy or intolerance? I thought I was allergic to eggs. Stopped eating them for 3 years. Then read a few studies that adults can become intolerant to the proteins in eggs. (Digestive reaction rather than an allergic reaction) After a few years not eating eggs, and now FULLY cooking them, I can eat eggs again. (I miss over easy eggs.) Just a thought for your situation.

How many guineas do you have? We're moving to PA, too, and I know there will most likely be a lot of ticks in the area as 2 acres are flat, but the other 9 acres surrounding the property are wooded.
Enjoying your move. Live stock guardian dogs are great! We have a Great Pyrenees and he is AMAZING! We don't loose animals to predators, as long as they stay where he is. But you are right about needing good fence, cause they will try to control the neighborhood if not fenced! And Pyrs LOVE kids as well as animals. Tucker is amazing with everyone!
Ahhhh, that was fun, even listening to the replay. I missed the live, but that is ok. My hubby, Art & I have a hilly back yard, 2 acres. We are trying to figure out the best way to make hay, without using a mower. Thinking maybe Sickle & make a bale maker. We were hoping to have our goats on the hill but, we can't imagine how that would work without them jumping over the fencing. We are getting Nigerian Dwarfs at the end of May. We look forward to your adventure.
If you get sheep you can get Llamas to protect them. Don't get Alpacas, they aren't good guards. Mini donkeys aren't very good either. full size Jack's work well.
Loved your Livestream but caught it late. The "new" property is beautiful! How nice for you to have so much family nearby, very fortunate! But Austin, where does your dad, family stay, are they in Connecticut? I can't wait to see y'all grow and all the new animals that you will be bringing in. Just don't get too many too soon, I don't want to see you burnout. Love y'all & congratulations! So excited😁
I watched some of your vlogs and liked what I have seen so far, now you have this new adventure so I will be subscribing to your channel. One question I need to ask. .....Is it possible to DATE STAMP or put the date in the titles so we can follow your projects in a serial format. Good luck with your life, now you are surround with your family and friends I see great times ahead of you.
So excited for your family. I have 9 brothers and sister and we all live in the same county. It's awesome having family close by. Can you give us a tour of the inside of the barn when you get time. I love barns. We had an 80 acre farm with 28 cows and a St. Bernard dog. Great times!
So beautiful! Love the views and countryside. Hubby and I are in Colorado, but born & raised in PA. So green and lush there. Can you say what area you are in? You are wise to take your time in choosing a direction for your farm and your futures!
Swales & berms? (because I watched after the live session, didn't hear Austin mention swales til later, and yes, swales will do you well). ... can you test the soil & water for aluminum, barium, and other aerial spray chemicals? In Northern California they've detected chemicals that inhibit plant growth... very interested in knowing if your new space is affected. Love the guineas, planning a place for guineas and ducks here. Go with the Iceland chicks... so survival genetic already... and re: Donkeys, ducks, geese... or chickens ... guineas and llamas (natural alarms)... and rabbits for protein & fur. The SW Virginia farm I took care of for awhile had a donkey with the goats, but the greatest predators were human. Though, no goat was lost to local predators - wolves. The wolves did encroach upon the birds from the woods - had to shoot a few rounds to scare them off. Never had electric fencing... Everything about a sustainable farm/ranch is dependent on so many factors.
Woah woah woah, the Amish don't always do it naturally, huge misconstrued image of them that they take advantage of, being they are our biggest competitors. Please don't aid them in there false advertisement. However we love you guys and wish you the very best on this new adventure.
Hi Aust and K. When I heard you say that there had been an old apple orchard on the hill- BUT no livestock [ever?] [since?]... I was concerned. My family is from a big apple growing area. The sprays and things put on trees have often poisoned the ground for livestock. Our friends purchased old orchard, tore out trees, and began to raise Arabians. Problems with miscarriage and foal deaths started the next spring. After MUCH investigation, lead and arsenic = no produce possible. Please test!!!
Aren't donkeys protectors of herds also? They keep coyotes and wolves away from horses. Finishing the video, you answered my ? About the donkeys. Wow as cold as NY has been, upstate, we have green grass and actually had to mow the lawn as well today. I am so jealous as PA is one of two favorite places to live. Look up going over on rt 322, rt 23, rt222 those are good antique shopping and green dragon farmers market, but my favorite was the abundance of fruit to be bought along the road. Peaches and melons to die for. We use to travel up where the coalfires, underground, still burn. Now I must admit that I moved away from the area in 1990, so things might not be as they were. I have heard that LanCaster County has changed and not better. I think bandanagramma is from around there.
Bummed I've missed this...sorry I've been away...Husband, Sam fell and busted up his wrist 2 weeks ago, have had surgeries and what not, big changes. So good to see you guys...love the hair and sun shades! The place is awesome! I'm wondering, since you seem to be so good with dog training...with so many people moving out to homestead around the country...perhaps you should consider raising LGD's...it's really rewarding both in spirit and financially...just a thought. Smiles and blessings you guys...
What a outstanding opportunity. The family handing that down to you folks is a precious gift. Congratulations. I'm in PA. But on the other side near Erie. Welcome
CONGRATULATIONS on the move! What a gorgeous place! So wonderful that you have family around as well. Looking forward to many new adventures with you all. (Love the haircut too). HUGS! Peg....on her tiny 4 chicken backyard in Chesapeake, VA
Darn, missed the live chat. Anyway Your new Farm is Beautiful ! Love the view, you all are so awesome. Kate Love your piano skills, and would love to hear more. you probably sing as well ? :) what is out there to Hunt ? I have never been on a farm but I sure do enjoy your Videos.
My mother enrolled our goat heard in dairy heard improvement milk testing which greatly improved the sates potential of our kids. We gave 2 does their bottle and put them on an airplane for Alaska based on there dams milk record.
I'm new here......can't figure out which building you live it? Looked at a couple other videos but still can't figure it out.......are parents in actual house? Can't understand where that apartment is?? Can you do a detail description please?
I finally caught your live show.... but I couldn't comment on it at all. There was no place to type anything. Have any ideas what's wrong? Lives work just fine on Facebook but not on yt. Aust I know you are tech savvy.... any ideas? I'm watching on an iPad. I wanted to ask you questions but couldn't.
Patrick Karlowski -Be careful. If you don't really need one it will make you lose the ability to fully fly your drone. You won't be able to fly at night, or over people, or through doorways believe it or not. My son flies his drone through barns, and he wouldn't be able to with a licence. It's forbidden for licence holders to fly through doorways, but not for hobbyists.
kricketjoy I’m pretty sure all the rules are close to the same. No one can fly at night without a waiver. What is the difference between the two? (Besides the license)
