My life was in trouble about the time Cheers hit the UK. I'd been through divorce, made money, fell for a younger woman and lost the money because of it. Cheers was a kind of pick-me-up when I was down. I recorded all the episodes I could so that when I needed it, I had it to hand. I still love it and watch it and laugh at it. Its run early morning in the UK right now. The shows are all good but I prefer the later episodes which are more sparky and often off the wall! I'll always watch it.

Yeah season 1 was more preachy. Season 11 was amazing

@RogerDDog Agreed. I like the early seasons but prefer the later ones where it literally becomes an ensemble piece with Kirstie Alley, rather than focusing on Sam and Diane.

It was meant to be for Ed O'neill to get the part of Al Bundy and Ted Danson to get the part of Sam Malone.

It's probably a good thing Alley replaced Long when she did. The Sam and Diane storyline had been milked dry and there simply wasn't a whole lot more that could be done with it. Rebecca's character was a lot more versatile and I believe her arrival in season 6 played a big role in Cheers lasting as long as it ultimately did.

That could be a controversial position in some circles. However, I agree 100%

@coreyrowe4119 By season 4, the Sam and Diane storyline was done and you can see how the scriptwriters were struggling in season 5 to come up with a decent set up for them. Alley saved the show in season 6 and the writing became more fleshed out rather than the focus on the now tiresome Sam and Diane situation.

They shouldn’t have careers, just stay home and raise their families

@@spellbindingcrashedNever got tiresome for me, but agree that it was best for all concerned that Ms. Long left. Had she stayed, the writers would've had to either break them up yet again or go the marriage/baby route. Still think Diane was the love of Sam's life...second to the bar, of course.

Would give anything to see Shelley and Ted's screen test. Their chemistry sealed the deal.

Too bad the young kid wanting to buy a beer wasn’t brought back for the last show. Love all the short episodes on you tube.

That's actually a pretty brilliant idea. That kid could have been the last customer served giving the show a full circle moment. As that kid was also the first person to walk through the door in the first episode. What would even have made it better is if that kid just got back from serving in desert storm and legitimately had a military ID (as he had a fake one in the first episode)

1:32 This is a totally different take than the actual episode. In the original, Sam's reaction is funnier (his acting here stinks) and Kirstie doesn't say anything, which makes more sense since she wasn't introducing herself to him.

Lived in Boston during those years, knew about the racial bias but was too busy at Harvard to care; now I do.
