In the Latin Quarter in Paris, stands the Panthéon. Today the Panthéon functions as a secular mausoleum containing the remains of distinguished French citizens. This video shows the most famous crypts.
Isn't the curie's tomb supposedly Radioactive still because of how much radium they had been in contact with?? I heard it was dangerous to even be around so I was shocked to find them in such a well known and visited place.
The Curie's tomb specifically Marie's is covered with lead in such to minimize the radiation'd affect. But, if you wish to see her remains you need to sign a waiver and wear protective suit.
Hi Zoe! thanks for writing. Those are great questions! This is in the Crypt are in the lower level of the Pantheon in Paris. The Pantheon was originally built to be a church in the mid 1700's and then became a mausoleum for France's greatest citizens after the French revolution. Marie Curie was a great scientist who, among other things, discovered radium. Victor Hugo was an author who wrote "Les Miserables". Alexandre Dumas wrote "The Four Musketeers" and "The Count of Monte Cristo". Voltaire is one of the great French Poets and Jean-Jacques Rosseau was a great political philosopher and writer. These are some of France's great citizens who can not be easily summed up in a few sentences. They all have very interesting stories that I'm sure you would enjoy!
@@WayneDevin Classy response! If only everyone on social media could be as empathetic and understand that one country's heroes could be strangers to others.
