Paul marches around Bishkek, introducing you to some of the many hotels in this ever developing capital city.
Note: Since this was filmed the hotel Alpinist has been having a renovation and in relation to this have risen their prices by 20-25% so it's not the bargain it once was and might now lose it's old fashioned charm, becoming yet another sterile, characterless hotel like some many others. However, their competitors have or will probably increase their prices too and I still think it offers very good value for money, especially for a solo traveller. Although if you are a couple I would now advise paying just $5 extra and staying at a much nicer hotel like Secret Garden & Spa for example.

Also, despite being a reasonable budget hotel, I cannot recommend Star hotel Bishkek because not only is the location terrible but it's like a prison and there was a poor dog being subjected to awful conditions.

any possibility of renting an apartment in Biskek for a month or so on a budget around the city centre? or living with families? do you recommend them? what is the approximate rent for a room in an apartment or hostel or within a house let say Airbnb. thanks

Hi Greek, apartments do seem disproportionately expensive to rent here compared to the general cost of living. Any nice apartment seems expensive, more than a perfectly nice hotel. I think you can just rent a room in a family home on Airbnb but their website is so useless as none of the filters work so it's a time consuming experience! Budget hotels here can be nice and most will offer a discount for a month long stay.

@@PaulintheUSSR thank you for your amazing responce. But any rough cost for staying a month in a hotel versus with a family in their home like sharing a room or renting a room in a house? Especially for a budget traveller.

Renting a room in a house will be the cheapest and probably most interesting option, if you don't mind "basic"! 😁 Some hostels offer private rooms as well as shared rooms and hostels generally have kitchens that guests can use too. Maybe just pay for a week first (you could get a weekly discount) then if you like it stay on, if not then move. A month stuck in a place you don't like wouldn't be great! But don't worry, I'm sure you'll find something suited to your needs 👍
