You should definitely watch the tv show but I would skip the child’s play remake cause it’s separate from the movies and tv show that are in the same continuity
I remember watching this as an 11 year old and hearing the line "this kid looks like he fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down," and I quoted it non-stop.
Tiffany Valentine is the character in Bride of Chucky. But if you're continuing this franchise, be prepared for the TV series. You won't be disappointed.
I still can’t believe the horror series about a voodoo possessed murder doll possibly has the first genderfluid character in cinema. Also, I can't help but admire Jennifer Tilly and her sense of humor. She's able to make fun of herself in the most hilarious ways.
I dunno about the first in cinema. Alice Guy was considered the first female director and she made lots of silent films that dealt with gender roles being subverted. Her 1906 film "The Consequences of Feminism" reversed gender roles for every character so all the men were effeminate, did sewing, ironing, and taking care of children, while the women were macho, drinking, smoking, and being the pursuers who initiated kisses on the demure men. The messy part with Seed of Chucky is Charles Lee Ray inhabited a Good Guy Doll, and due to voodoo magic, the doll body became flesh. Tiffany was put into the other doll which also became flesh. Both of them retained their reproductive systems for some reason. Their child wasn't born with reproductive organs at all. Is that because the child is only a doll? It's unclear. Do you need to gender a doll at all? The Velveteen Rabbit doesn't need a gender.
Nope. Definitely not the first. You had a lot of others before this and it's not even this first genderfluid serial killer either. I can't say one of them because it would spoil the first movie in the 80s franchise.
When Roxy and Tara get to Curse Of Chucky and Cult Of Chucky, Greg better make sure they watch the unrated cuts for those movies since the theatrical cuts don't have the post credit scenes that set up the next installment because Greg keeps skipping the unrated versions like he did with The Descent, Jennifer's Body and the Saw movies
@dklounge7082 You are so weird and annoying to paste this comment to literally every Reel Rejects video and community post since they started Child’s Play. & if you don’t like what Greg does, stop watching! Weirdo…
If you ever wonder what Camp is, this is Camp. The photographer was played by the great John Waters. Big 🌈 icon. He made a good amount of cult classics like Pink Flamingos.
Fun fact about Jennifer Tilly in the 80s Sam Simon and her were married, and when divorcing Sam didn't have much for a settlement so he offered her 1/3 of his residuals from an unknown show called The Simpsons. So now for all these years she's received 1/3 of tens of millions of dollars. With that coming in she is a huge gambler and can afford to do whatever she wants, like movies like this.
@clarkkenttheman No kids yes, but no prenuptial agreement. The court ordered him to give her 30% of his profits from the show, which in turn made her a multi millionaire for years now.
In Bride of Chucky, Tiffany Valentine is the characters name and she gets put into the Tiffany doll by Chucky. In Seed of Chucky, Hollywood is making a movie about the killings and they cast Jennifer Tilly to play the voice of Tiffany. So Tiffany Valentine is a person as well as Jennifer Tilly being a different person. It's all very meta lol
😊 Roxy and Tara I totally agree with you with the addition of Jennifer Tilley. She has become as iconic to the Chucky universe as Brad Douriff is as Chucky
@@thegreatestshowonearth7623 actually at the very very end Roxy started to realize that she knows a couple of his songs she just has a disconnect of who the singer is LMAO
Billy Boyd, the voice of Glen/Glenda is Pippin from The Lord of the Rings franchise, who is Scottish, putting on an English voice here. I think he did a fantastic job in this film. So funny, but also emotional when it needed to be.
Jennifer’s agent Joan was played by Hannah Spearrit who was a British pop star with the group S Club 7 in the late 90’s-early 2000’s, she also starred in the ITV Sci-Fi series Primeval with Jason Fleyming who also appears in this movie as the actor wearing the Santa costume who we’re led to believe is killed by Chucky and Tiffany only for it to be revealed as a movie scene from the In-Universe Movie Chucky goes Psycho, Jason Flemying has a bunch of really good bigger roles.
Just think Billy boyd aka pippin from lord of the rings is voicing along side grimmer worm tongue (chucky) and he never gets asked about this film at comic cons haha
Not sure if anyone explained this or if you guys caught on later (I'm only part-way through the vid) but the Jennifer/Tiffany thing is.. The doll is Tiffany Valentine - that was Jennifer Tilly's character in "Bride." In this one, she's playing a cameo of herself AND Tiffany. And all the scenes where she's clearly making fun of herself, she actually tried to pitch to the writers to make her meaner and to go in harder on the self-jokes, but the producers said something along the lines of "Hold up, we can't make Jennifer Tilly look THIS bad, even if it's her idea."
Glen / Glenda is a references to Ed Wood's first film GLEN OR GLENDA, which was originally supposed to about a real life 1950s transsexual but ended up being about his own transvestism.
One thing I love about this movie besides introducing us to Glen and Glenda Is Chucky finally embraces his status as a killer doll. All the other movies have been I got to get out of this body I got to get out of his body. This movie it finally hits him. You know what I'm fine being in this body!! I'm infamous!!
It's the only example of a slasher villian having a legitimate character arc that I can think of and I still can't believe that they pulled it off so well. I also love (and SPOILERS for future movies) that once Chucky's main motivation is no longer getting a human body he ironically has a much easier time possessing his victims.
I definitely think the show really found its footing, not that the movies aren’t great, but they do go from horror to silly horror back to horror, but the show is a pretty good blend of both
Hadn't seen it in years and when I watched it was a kid, I remember it wasn't my favourite but watched it again by myself before the reaction and what a surprise it was. The cinematography, the weirdness, everything was unpredictable to me. Some plot points were wonky but it didn't stop the immersion for me. Definitely one of the better ones in the franchise.
Don Manchini wrote all the Childs Play and Chucky movies(but not the 2019 reboot) as well as directing this one, making his directorial debut. The guy playing the pap photographer was John Waters who wrote and directed the original Hairspray movie
Don did not write Child's Play idea alone(1988) that was Tom Holland's idea with the voodoo. Don wanted to do the synthetic doll when mixed with Andy's blood to come alive that way as a way for the doll killing people acting out Andy's dark manifestations as a result. Tom told him that idea wasn't good and to go with the voodoo idea instead(that Tom Holland came up with) and it worked out very well. Don formed the concept for Chucky from his inspirations (Talky Tina, Cabbage Patch, My Buddy, Zuni doll) but the plot was all Tom Holland's idea.
@@SteveODonnell It does matter because he wasn't the sole writer, he was one of the writers but I'm telling you the original idea was Tom Holland's and thus the success of Chucky spawned from his idea, not Don's...so yes it does matter in that regard. Ask most fans if they would have preferred Don's original idea of the synthetic doll vs the voodoo angle, I'd be willing to bet most would prefer the latter. Just saying. If you're curious about learning more and don't believe me watch Michael Rosenbaum's inside of you, he had Holland on there and interviewed him personally...
Okay, I'm glad you guys actually enjoyed Seed of Chucky. I had a feeling you guys would but you never know 😅. At this point I thinks it's safe to say you guys will enjoy the rest of them.
What I love about these movies is that they fully embrace the camp and silliness after the second movie, becoming a fantastic horror comedy franchise. Not every director/writer could make that switch and do it this well! (Granted I haven't seen most of the new movies or the show lol)
This was legit my FAVORITE Chucky movie for the longest and I always got so defensive when people would spit on it. Like, “Okay, fun sucker!” 😂 It’s so camp! I freaking love it! And Glen/Glenda quickly became a favorite of mine just as Tiffany did!
Love how they don’t get that Jennifer Tilly was playing Tiffany in Bride and in this one she is playing both Tiffany in the doll and a fictional version of herself in this movie. Also can’t wait for them to Watch Curse which is one of my favorite of the recent movies.
Seriously this is such a great movie because you have so many different themes going on here one is that there’s father and son bonding happening in the movie with Chucky and Glenn, which is in one level but at the same time it’s Chucky a serial killer trying to bond with his son by making him a serial killer😱. While at the same time, Tiffany is trying to” break the habit” of killing so when the opportunity presents herself, she’s trying to hold herself back like someone trying to hold back from taking a drink. Great stuff.
YES!! I'm so glad you two enjoyed the wild, wild ride!! As for the critical reception - it's so ridiculous! It is sad how often people reject things for being "different". It's just strange, but so many people just weren't willing to understand or go with the flow of this amazing movie! Out of all the horror franchises, I think Child's Play is the only one I can really say is consistently GOOD, if not great, each and every movie (barring the remake, which was a studio creation, not the creator's creation, if you catch me). All the movies are definitely fantastic! Love you two!!
Ok to explain the Jeniffer Tilly thing! Tiffany was played by Jennifer Tilly in bride of chucky. Tiffany is supposed to be a doppelganger of Jennifer in seed of chucky and that is how they were able to bring back Jennifer Tilly into the franchise...And now Tiffany is kinda back as herself because of how much she looked like Jeniffer in the first place
15:00 Tiffany, the character from 'Bride Of Chucky' is the doll, Jennifer Tilly is playing a fictionalized vetsion of her self. This gets gets rectified in the 'Chucky' TV series.
Roxy those boots are fire! Tara your blue eyeshadow is stunning! And this reaction was amazing. Your appreciation for everything and your energy is just wonderful! 🥰 So happy you've now met Glen and Glenda! Love that you've been enjoying these so much because it really is an incredible series, the show included. I love it all and I really hope you get to react to it all! Much love she-jects!🖤
I just Googled it and Seed of Chucky came out one month before Ocean’s Twelve… so they got to their Jennifer Tilly being a real person in the movie’s universe first!!!
Im gonna drop this here again because it can’t be said enough: UNRATED CUTS of Curse and Cult only and don’t miss the end credits bonus scenes! They aren’t present in the theatrical cuts. I love how you two loved Seed so much. It’s grown on me and this only helped.
This was unironically my favourite Chucky movie although it could be because it was my introduction to the franchise before I went back and watched the others
I always was terrified of Chucky. I hate it when my brother watched it and everything. Then this film came and I conquered my fear and I was like hey, this doll isn't that bad... And now, I'm obsessed with this entire franchise... I love it and how Don Mancini has reinvented each movie, season of the series and so on... And to have the first gender fluid character in 2004 when no one knew how to do it, it was pretty amazing
I think this is what the story is. Charles Lee Ray exists in our world. So does Tiffinay. Tiffany happens to look exactly like Jenniffer Tilly. The movie in the movie is based on Charles Lee Ray's killings. That is only way this movie makes sense.
Anything the SheJects make for merch I will totally buy. You ladies are my favorites here, especially because I also recently binged the Chucky movies for the first time. You both are awesome! ❤️❤️
To answer your confusion girlies about the Jennifer/Tiffany situation, Bride of Chucky was a real occasion, it did happen and in Seed of Chucky they are making a movie after everything that had happened in Bride of Chucky. Tiffany was real in Bride of Chucky before being switched into the doll body and this world also has Jennifer Tilley in the world too, they both coexist in the same world as… doppelgängers? If you will, so in Seed of Chucky Jennifer is basically playing Tiffany and they are recreating a movie version of events that happened from Bride of Chucky, they aren’t the same person.
I am absolutely HERE for you guys going through all the chucky movies I was only ever a big fan of 'Child's Play'- and then I saw this wacky mess and thought it was so charmingly goofy and never saw the other two; BUT I am loving growing to appreciate these through your takes on these movies, it's so fun to have you guys go through all these classic horrors movies on this channel love it, love seeing you- hope to see more!
As someone who has been a Chucky fan for about 13 years, I've really been enjoying your journey in watching these movies for the first time. It's actually given me a new appreciation on some the movies I don't watch as much. I look forward to seeing your reactions for the next movies! I also highly recommend the TV show, that's where the really crazy stuff happens!
The remake in 2019 was basically made without Mancini's permission or involvement due to a quirk of the license. It's a decent movie, one of the better remakes of the top horror series. It was just the circumstances that turned people off. Completely different setup too, very close to a very successful recent movie that came out 4 years later
Reel Rejects struck gold with Roxy and Tara. It would be a total 180 , but would love to see you react to One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, to appreciate the range of Brad Dourif’s career
Don Mancini really went for it with this one. Its failure is a blessing in disguise, teaching him some things to come back with two banger films and a great tv series
I was 14 when this was released and I was OBSESSED with it! This movie is so STUPID that makes a full 360 on itself and becomes GREAT 😂 Haven’t seen it in years and rewatching with you guys was beyond fun, I had a blast ♥️
The thing with how the last film ended and this one starts is barely mentioned... But the thing about the dolls is that it's supposed they picked up those dolls and fixed them, that's why Tiff doesn't look burned
I cannot WAIT for you to meet the next greatest addition to the franchise- Nica Pierce!! I feel like you both will LOVE how and where this franchise goes- through the next two movies AND the TV show! PLEASE continue, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed and I can’t wait to see more!
Tiffany is that bride of chucky character and tiffany was in the doll in bride of chucky movie. In this movie tiffanys soul went into the body of jennifer tilly and jennifer tillys soul went into the tiffany doll
I LOVE CHUCKY. Its my fav movie franchise and it has never scared me. I remember watching it with my aunt at night on her little movie dvd player laptop thing and it was so fun..
OMG WE MADE IT TO MY FAV ENTRY IN THE FRANCHISE! Obsessed with this movie and obsessed with this reaction!! Glad y'all also appreciate the batshit weirdness and fun this movie has to offer!🤩
Tiffany Valentine (the Bride character) is sort of a Doppelgänger of Jennifer Tilly. Later in the show we see Doppelgängers are fairly common in this universe. LOL
Curse is probably my favourite of the franchise and cult and the series are right up there. It seems Mancini learned from his mistakes in Seed and absolutely flew with the next two films and the show.
Scream queens! I love this one. You guys def have the right attitude going into it. Never boring, never the same. You should watch Tim Burton's "Ed Wood" movie as well. Depicts "Glen/Glenda"
Glen or Glenda is a 1953 Ed Wood movie about a man who cross-dresses as a woman but is afraid to tell his fiancé. That is part of the joke of the Glen/Glenda name and their gender for Tiffany and Chucky's kid.
Speaking of animatronics, the Chucky animatronic from this movie was featured in the Daft Punk music video "technalogic" So peeled Chucky was in a music video.
