SEED STORIES | Bull's Blood Beet: Brimming With Flavor

Bull's Blood beet strikes a perfect balance between the sweet, deep red roots of what were known as "blood turnips" in 19th century America, and the ruby-colored foliage of the Covent Garden type beets that graced Victorian English gardens. The greens are succulent in salads, and the roots are super for juicing and roasting. Better yet, they're hardy and even tolerate a bit of heat in the garden.

My mother has been growing these before I was born. I’m now in my 30s and gardening with my own children. The history is so rich and fascinating! I could listen to you talk all day! I can’t wait to show my mom this video ❤️❤️❤️ thank you for taking the time

Thank you for the beet story. I am growing several succession plantings of beets this year. Early Wonder I think. Mostly for the leaves and stems Incredible nutritive value. Northeastern PA has only about 6 months of good weather so I need to grow early varieties of everything. One blessing to the cold wet conditions is near total lack of leaf miner attacks. The roots can be harvested at the end of fall and into winter as a bonus for storage.

I love Baker Seeds and looked up their videos because the link on their online catalog didn't play. I wish the narrator spoke faster. I don't have the patience to listen to her.

I clicked on the geared shaped circle and set the play speed up to 1.25 of normal and the video played faster with no reduction in the quality of the sound.

Thanks for the feedback. All of our Seed Stories are closed captioned, so you could simply turn off the sound if you wish.
