This is a different time and a younger Amitabh. He has overcome many setbacks in a long life but could have left a bigger impact on cinema. So many mediocre roles could have been avoided. Also hundreds of ads. He has become overused and over exposed. Also his reluctance to take a stand on major issues. Especially about his own industry. Tries to be too correct politically but appears evasive.
Suresh Murty He's only been practical all along. It's easy to preach about having spine while resting it on an easy chair and being a keyboard warrior within the safe confines of the four walls of your house. Especially when you aren't in the public eye. The truth is people don't just want an opinion from Amitabh or anyone else for that matter. They want an opinion that matches their perspective on a certain issue. So no matter whose side you take, the other will try to screw you for disagreeing with them. And if you try to remain neutral or diplomatic, you'd still be termed a coward. Amitabh knows this major flaw in our society. Hence, he chooses silence. Nothing wrong with that. We as a people have intolerance ingrained in us, no matter our ideological or political allegiance. We as a society need to evolve. Also, there's nothing wrong whatsoever in making the moolah. A certain amount of material comfort and security is needed too, considering the lifestyle he leads. He's been through a crushing financial crisis.That has to be maintained since he inhabits a particular strata of society. He's able to experiment now only 'coz he earned all the financial security through his prime. He rose like a phoenix from the ashes. If his experiments even during his peak success during the 70s and 80s were ignored, that reflects on the audience. Nothing wrong in materialism or capitalism. No socio-economic development can take place without wealth creation.

Rather amusing. You don't even know who I am. I am not famous but have worked in many fields for over forty years and travelled to many countries in my time. And, most importantly, I have spoken my mind since I was eighteen years old and opposed the Emergency on the streets in UP. So make your great defense of your hero without provoking me. @@sureshmurty6523 I believe you must really be suffering from a hell lot of self-esteem issues if you thought I was talking about you particularly. When I used "you", I used it in a general sense and not specifically to target "you" as a person. For example - "You gotta be brave sometimes". It doesn't imply a particular person, but people in general. So save the diatribe. I didn't ask for your bio-data. And good for you if you indeed did everything you claim. However, that doesn't have to mean that someone else has to be exactly as you are by nature or character. Everyone is made and wired differently. It's really erroneous to judge people by a certain yardstick.

And the fact that you should disregard someone's opinion on the basis of absurd generalizations with regard to an age group, that speaks a lot about your own maturity.
