Cool trick with the fork and tomato plants! Also I didn't know you could plant them that deep but it makes sense. Will definitely try that very soon thanks!

The fork makes it so easy! I plant my tomatoes deeper each time I up-pot them, and when they go out in the garden too - it really helps develop a good root system. I hope your seedlings do well for you!

I just started my tomato seeds yesterday. I'm a little late however, I often wait until the first of May and direct seed into the in-ground garden. We are also in 7a but in the south, E TN. We always get a bumper tomato crop so, I'm not too concerned about the late seedling start this year. We do have 20+ pepper starts up in the green house. Many of those starts have a set or two of true leaves. Patience is a virtue with pepper growing. We have our brassicas already planted in the high tunnel beds. We already have shade cloth on the tunnel due to the temperature fluctuations here; 80F one day 30F 4 nights later. SE TN winters! Thanks for sharing.

I’ve never tried direct sowing tomatoes - I suspect that here in CT our season might be too short for that to work well. It sounds like you get the same crazy temperature fluctuations that we do, although we’re a little behind you weather wise I think.
