Doom Troopers was a Mutant Chronicles card game and that Sega game was the embarrassingly awful video game adaptation. It is absolutely horrid and ugly. But not as bad as the movie!!!
It's a game from Treasure, and If you know your sega genesis you gotta love that Gunstar Heroes and of course the best looking/hardware-intensive game on the system: Alien Soldier. They rock!
I want to thank both Metal Jesus and The Immortal John Hancock for getting me back into retro gaming and collecting. You guys along with Reggie, Kinsey, and the rest of the bunch really brought back that amazing feeling of nostalgia for me. You all are awesome and I really appreciate your content even though my wallet might disagree!
I had Red Zone. It was one of those games that was far too difficult for a 5-7 year old so I didnt get very far. It was also quite a creepy game and even now gives me the chills seeing it. Im not sure why, maybe because it was quite realistic and when your characters died they were dead forever, no funeral, no mention just you didnt get to play them anymore. The mission goes on in its dark somber way.
If you want to get any far in battletech, play it two in player mode. First player controls top of the robot and weaponry, while second player does the walking. Benefits are that in two player mode, you do not have to walk in direction you shoot, so you can run away while shooting at danger.
UNREAL! There was a game I played as a kid that I absolutely loved, and for the life of me, I couldn't remember. I didn't even know where to start looking. It was The Immortal!! Thank you for posting this video. John Hancock is a nostalgic hero.
you seriously can't imagine the chills i got when John mentioned the fucking Bog Bean. I moved away from Redding when i was just a kid but that place holds a vague yet special place in my heart. I remember first looking at a vinyl record there and my parents buying me Mario Paint.
John Hancock may be the only person I've ever seen to surpass my love for SEGA. I'm getting back into the swing of collecting again, and these videos are helping me to remember some of my old favorites. Love the videos, my first time seeing Metal Jesus was the "Working at Sierra" video. I gotta drop a sub.
I owned Both Red Zone & The Immortal in both PAL for my Mega Drive, Amazing games, I loved them - so much memories. - I was 9 at the time though, and I could never get past the Spider/Gem Puzzle on level 2, in the Immortal. - I used to look through game magazines for Level Codes, and the Puzzles were just as tough.
Battle Tech, Desert Strike, and True Lies. Trifecta of top down Genesis games. These are the 3 games that made my case for owning a Genesis over SNES when I was a kid. Ah, the memories.
The Immortal. That's a legit hidden gem. Hard as she-ite. I remember renting it from Hastings and late fees and re-renting and only one copy so hard to get. Loved the bloody melting deaths.
Usually these "Hidden Gems" videos are literally the same games EVERYONE posts as hiddgen gems. But he really found a bunch of games that look AMAZING to me for the Genesis. Most of them are also ones I've never heard of as well.
Light Crusader Rules. I spent a lot of time with that game growing up. I'm gonna have to play it now. You guys are the Best. I'm subscribed to both of your channels and I watch all of your videos. Thank you!
Battletech actually sold very many copies, and was ported to the SNES as MechWarrior 3050 which was a very popular release. Also, Light Crusader was popular enough that they released it again on the Wii Virtual Console.
You two make me to go out and search for the sega genesis hidden gems!! Great video +MetalJesusRocks . Here in Argentina we have copies of some of these games in cartridges...i think from China or Russia, i don't know....but originals are really too difficult to find them. So, i'll be fine if i find The Immortal on a chinese copy at least. Greetings!
Never got the chance to play much on a Sega consoles but these titles really caught my interest. I'm looking to collect/explore for consoles I never got a chance to play and these games are titles that I'm looking for. On a side note, I think it would be a great addition to talk about what other ports there are, aside from the aforementioned console. I'm assuming since these are genesis hidden gems that they might be exclusive but it sounded like several might have been on SNES too. That info would give more people a chance to play these if the don't have the right gear. just a suggestion. thanks, looking forward to part two.
Oh man, Battletech! When I saw that I instantly was 10 again! I remember playing that game with my Dad; we were both big Battletech fans, and even did the battle pods when they were in Chicago! The mech they feature in the game on the Genesis...the Mad Cat! Best...mech...EVER!!
I wish I could find these games when I hit up yard sales. But all I can ever find are sports games. Only sorts games that make me even a tad interested are hockey or soccer games. Great video guys! Looking forward to part 2!
I remeber playing battle tech as a kid with my bud. It was fun going around and blowing up huge gas tanks. Lately, i think this one plays better on a rom with analog dual stick controls. It handles a lot more how youd expect the mech to drive.
I haven't seen Red Zone since 1996! Loved the game back then and I never saw another copy of it since. Totally forgot what it was called. I will have to try and find this game.
Awesome video. Thank you. I'm just getting back into the Genesis. This was the first 16 bit machine I ever played and I'm absolutely going to be hunting for these hidden gems. Great video.
Two games I loved for the Genesis, but I'm not sure how obscure or hidden they are, Dinosaurs for Hire and Cyborg Justice. I used to put dozens of hours into both games.
I remember first playing Red Zone on the old Sega Channel and being very impressed with that intro. The gameplay a little less so, but was still a solid title. How about Virtual Pinball as a Hidden Gem? From EA and Bill Budge (creator of the Pinball Construction Kit for Apple II and C64) you had 29 tables you could customize to your liking, and 10 slots where you could create your own tables and save them to battery backup. Great fun.
I remember Zero Tolerance for the Mega Drive. By today's standards it looks bad but at the time I was absolutely mesmerised by it. Probably the 1st first person shooter I played. Great game.
I'm here in 2023 with a Sega Genesis trying to figure out what to buy for it. Thanks guys. I totally recognize that Buck Roger game from my awkward early PC days. It's tempting to look for that one... lol
Very cool to see a second or two of screen time given to the SSI Games, most especially Curse of the Azure Bonds. Also fantastic books in the TSR Forgotten Realms series.
Battletech I remember! on SNES it was Mechwarrior 2040, but I specifically remember the genesis version, a fun strategy/shooter game! The Immortal - of the two holy grail games for me on Genesis, this is the other one! I already have my #1, Wardner's Forest: Special Edition (it's another arcade port) I loved the fantasy theme and wanted to check this one out!! some other great picks that I had heard of but never played!
Hey man, I don't know if someone said this before but I would like you to have at least a quick overlook at these games, just 5 min of gameplay will do the job I guess. It'll be awesome to hear your opinion as well, with 5 mins on it you can talk about graphics/sound and even gameplay and it'll be way more cooler than just "ok, that's sound cool". Because when you result to know any of the games you give your insight too and it's way more awesome and informative to hear 2 opinions. Keep your awesome work! (Sorry about my english, It's not my native language)
I feel lucky I have played most of these games back in the day. Truly recommend toki. The graphics are ok but the game play is really fun. Buck Rogers looks weird at first but its another fun game. It helped me with learning english when I was a kid and I want to revisit it soon.
SNES, it runs smoother and is just as gory, rare for a SNES game to be so gory and somehow it got a teen rating, it is a M rated game with a T rating disguise, also check out WEAPONLORD
I don't know if anyone remembers, but there was this game called Sonic the Hedgehog that was really good on the Genesis. Not many people heard of it though, I'm not sure if they made any sequels.
FUCK! Thanks for making the prices go up again, man It's funny how you make these videos so that people can know of more great games, but really the effect is "Look at these fun games you can't afford now"
There is one game that is a hidden gem for me and that is high sea havok for genesis. That game is just like sonic but slower and has some great music in the game
You should have a video with John showing Reggie what games to get for his recent master system pick-up. Who better than John Hancock to make recommendations?
Great list - I grew up with Toki, no clue why my parents thought a 7 year old would want a game like that....maybe they just randomly picked something? Good game, but definitely weird
John hancock that's one of the toughest names I have ever heard in my life no joke I use to always watch u on metal jesus your my age 41 I belive so atari woodgrain it.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT I saw Toki in a Pizza Hut when I was about 5 years old. I didn't know what it was called and I have been looking for the name for about 30 years. I always remembered the intro where the girl is kidnapped, but somehow at the time I didn't realize the protagonist was transformed into an ape. I thought he was turned into a little goblin or something. This mistake is probably what threw me off the trail for all of these years. However I remembered his head was shaped like a football and seeing it again today brought back some really foggy memories! I'm going to have to find a copy of this somewhere.
