John, your video reminded me that, in 1982, I got my Atari 2600. And before I got it, I saw someone else's Atari wrapped under a tree, so I went and measured it out with my hands. And when I saw mine under the tree, I measured it and knew what it was before I opened it.
The only game I remember getting for Christmas was Sonic and Knuckles. It's also the only Sega game I somehow managed to lose between childhood and now. The Genesis is my oldest console that still works like the day I brought it home. My Atari is gone, NES is gone, PS1 and PS2 broken and my Game Gear stopped working many years ago. Something about the Model 2 that made it like a tank.
Right?! That Model 2 I'm convinced is oneof those things that could survive a nuclear war. Mine still works like a charm. Haven't done anything to it. Model 1 died. Sega CD I had recapped and a new laser put it, but that model 2 just gives me a look like "I'm not like those losers!"
So excited that the trademark for Eternal Champions has been renewed. Next year could be huge. Love me my Sega Genesis, its the system that keeps delivering.
Agreed! Looking at games like the Killer Instinct, Samurai Showdown and MK Reboots, a rebooted eternal champions sound AWESOME! I like the original way more than I should have because as a pure fighting game...it was pretty clunky but at the time, the stage fatalities were amazing, plus they had some innovative ideas.
My dad had the Genesis when I was little, and it was my introduction to video games, along with the original Game Boy. I was born in 92, and Sonic 2 was one of the first games I remember playing.
Love this. My happiest Christmas ever in the UK was getting my megadrive. Im not sure if 89 or 90 but I got a japanese version without a game then got Golden axe in my christmas stocking. Best Christmas ever !!!
I literally remember getting Strider in 90 or 91. Parents bought it for me as a blind buy, but I absolutely fell in love with it. Reminded me of Sonic the Hedgehog mixed with Aeon Flux (Liquid Television anyone?!).
I remember being 3 years old in 1994 and getting Sonic & knuckles and my older brother getting Maximum Carnage for Christmas '94 that's my earliest memory of that day.
Can’t express how much I enjoy this channel. Got me back into my retro gear and started fixing (cleaning mostly) others stuff too. Great fun! I love my Sega Genesis and it’s kind of funny seeing what was popular because you bet I own most of these games haha. I bet if I watch home videos I’d see myself unwrapping these.

One year for Xmas, my mom decided to put the gifts under the tree a few days early. With precision unwrapping skills, I unwrapped Primal Rage for Genesis, beat it with 3 characters. ReWrapped it and put it back under the tree. I had to act surprised Xmas morning :-P
I used Christmas money to buy Golden Axe. Some of the most fun I've ever had playing video games is conquering Golden Axe with my brother or cousin on the other controller.
I’ve got a great Sonic 2 Christmas story(technically I guess it would be a Thanksgiving weekend story): My stepmom and step sister got gifts early from out of town relatives via mail, and they opened them in front of all of us(My dad, brother and me). All of course were gifts for just my stepmom and sister. And I must of had some look of disappointment on my face because my dad then goes “you know I think Santa left something here for you guys early” and he goes off and brings back Sonic 2❤❤❤ My stepmom then yelled at my dad for getting us a gift early…

i remember my sister got barney's hide n seek as a kid i was like oh man you got a sega game i can't say i was dissapointed because i was up for playing anything.
I never got any Genesis games for Christmas, but that may have something to do with the fact that I didn't buy one until I was 18 in 1998. I bought a Genesis after my Saturn and N64, so I kinda missed this window. My brother did buy one before then, and I did give him a couple of Genesis games for Christmas. I got him the Genesis 6-pak I believe and The Humans for sure.
I love Frogger and Strider 1 and 2 but for the Sony PlayStation 1. Sega has created so many fantastic games and I love playing them on the Sonic Mega Collection and Sonic Gems Collection on the Nintendo GameCube. This was interesting and fun. Cool video. ^_^
When I got my Genesis for Christmas, it was in some kind of bundle with Sonic 1, Sonic 2 and QUACKSHOT. I think my parents got it from Sam's Club or something But Quackshot ended up being one of my favorite games ever ♥️
Damn these are literally all the games I got for my sega..didnt realize it came out in 89 and yeah I think my last game for the genesis was sonic and knuckles but great list. Literally got all those games prior. Memories. Good stuff. I even got joe Montana football.. Loved it. Then I was more into the super Nintendo and the ps1. Good job
Sonic 3D Blast was the last Genesis game I got for Christmas because by the time the next Christmas rolled around I had a PS but I'll never forget that game!

Weirdly the only ones I distinctly remember getting for Christmas are Sonic 2, Aladdin, and not mentioned on here (not sure when it came out Month wise) Dungeons and Dragons: Warriors of the Eternal Sun. You'd think I'd remember more, but I don't. Also, shucks, it's a shame that by the mid 90s I had moved onto PC gaming and missed out on Frogger while playing games like Duke Nukem 3D and Warcraft 2! Boy, if I had a time machine... no, wait, I would have done the same thing even if I had known that. And Gargoyles was awesome! Both the show and the game.
All the way until 98, I really didn't know it lasted that long... and of these games Sonic and Streets of Rage 2 are the only ones I've actually played. Christmases were more toys for me than games, alas.
Funny. So in 92 I did in fact get a Genesis with Sonic 1 packed in AND sonic 2. Same with 96, Sonic 3d Blast. Now I did get Sonic and Knuckles in 94, but I’m pretty sure I didn’t wait for Christmas for that one. That released October, my birthday is in November. Not 100% sure but I believe I bough that with some birthday money
I'll never forget getting Phantasy Star 2. Thank God they included a hint book which I tried not to use but I later found that was impossible. First few dungeons, no problem I used graph paper. It took some time but I was proud I didn't use the book. Then that stupid Island, climate control lab, and the damn dams. By the time I reached Dezo and that stupid airport I remember screaming at the TV, WHO WOULD MAKE AN AIRPORT THIS COMPLICATED?! I threw my controller down and it was then I realized I had an anger issue.
Definitely received Sonic 2 for Christmas (a mere 3 months after I bought a Genesis w/Sonic 1). Had some of the other games on this list, but not sure If I got them at Christmas, or bought them.
I'm racking my brain but the only Sega Genesis game I specifically remember getting for Christmas was Fantasia in 1991 which may not have been a great game but I still kind of admire it for attempting to make a quite abstract movie into a game. Castle of Illusion was obviously the better Mickey Mouse game but Fantasia at least looked nice when paused. I know that I could have gotten Toe Jam and Earl instead that Christmas but, I dunno, maybe it's just that I never got around to playing it until the Genesis Mini when I was already in my 40s but I'm just indifferent to it. I never got Streets of Rage on cartridge but it was alright because I got it just over a year later on the Sega Classics disk included in the Sega CD, which I got in January 1993. I never played the original Joe Montana Football but I did eventually get that Joe Montana NFL Football Sega CD game for Christmas 1993, buggy mess that it was. I thought my copy was broken so we returned it to Compucentre to get a replacement copy with the exact same bugs but I pretended that it was fine because I didn't want my father making another scene at Compucentre considering that it really wasn't their fault that the game was a buggy mess.

I was that oddball kid who never tried to guess his presents. I wouldn't even touch them, the weight or sound could clue me in. 😂 That being said, it was kinda easy to spot the cartridge sized gifts

Joe Montana Football was literally on this list. NHL '94 could have been on here as it was released in October. I'm sure several grabbed it for Christmas.
I never got the really new game but I got the game that I've been asking for so the year when I got Fatal Fury was awesome i was in love with snk and the neo geo because it was like The elusive machine that nobody could get
Frogger was probably released in 1998 due to the Seinfeld episode ‘The Frogger’ which came out in April of 1998. Capitalize on the shows popularity and move a few carts.

Storytime: I was gifted Michael Jackson's Moonwalker for the Genesis for Christmas. I loaned it to my sister who lived out of town. My parents' house burnt down and all my consoles and games didn't survive... except for Moonwalker. My sister gave it back. It's the only game cart I have left from my childhood.
I know sports games aren’t the greatest, but October 1993 was when the ultimate sports game was released, NHL 94. I absolutely got that for Christmas, and it’s the best, still. Prefer the SNES over the genesis version, but both are great.
I still have a few of my megadrive games that i received back then. Pack of 3 games (italia 90, collums and super hang on), fifa 97, sonic the hedgehog, tiny toon adventures and both power rangers games Fortunately my cousin had Alladin, my favourite mega drive game, european club soccer and street of rage.. Sometimes i miss those times..
I got Sonic and Knuckles one year for Christmas. That was the only reason Sonic 3 was taken out of my Sega. And gotta love Revenge of Shinobi. Especially the original release (if you know, you know)
I had to save money by walking to school instead of public transport to be able to buy a new game back then. After a loooong time, one of my favorite MegaDrive/Genesis games, MK2, finally was mine. I still have it in pristine condition with the case. 😊
