@@SvennyMcG yeah mk games had blood in them and i just loved streets of rage (should have been an arcade game). too bad konami's 1989 crime fighters never made it to a home console till this year on eshop. would have been great on genesis

Glad they finally brought Streets of Rage back as well! 😊 Aladdin, Ecco, MK, Sonic were all staples - I remember thinking Vectorman looked wild. Lots of great Genesis memories

Sega unlike Nintendo ruled the arcades because Sega's reputation was bigger in game development while Nintendo was primarily was just the hardware.

Thanks! A very lightly damp cloth may help clean it up from dust & dirt. Certainly not as common to find these in such excellent condition 👏

Me too! I've used a damp cloth to clean the cardboard boxes but I mean EXTREMELY lightly dampened cloth, then go over it with a dry cloth. Needless to say, need to make sure the box doesn't get damaged

It was a cool design - I wonder how many units were made of Model 1 (stack version) versus Model 2 (side version)? I feel as though my Model 2 edition shown here is the more common Sega CD model found 🤔

@@SvennyMcG model 2 Sega CD is more common and honestly the better one to get! Works better and looks better. Came out shortly after that old one did so they didn't make many of the older style I am going to say. Both came out in 92.

From what I've seen the stack version has had more issues today that the side model, and I agree it's the better-looking model too 😊

Given the High Definition Graphics logo I believe this is an early release but I'll have to look into it further to see the exact date 👍

@@SvennyMcG the one you have is very early release I'm going to say from around September of 1989 maybe 1990 at most! My brother has one with Altered Beast set his is from that date and also doesn't have the PRODUCED BY OR LICENSED FOR SEGA thingy when its turned on. That's also another indication it's a launch model. This is known as a VA2. I own a VA3 and a VA7 in my collection. My VA3 says High Definition Graphics but says that once turned on but its true all that are High Definition Graphics have superior sound. My VA7 is from 1992. That was produced same time the first model 2s that came out and is basically a model 2 board in a model 1 casing these have bad sound. The other Genesis you have is still a decent one right before my VA7 came out as they look the same but can tell because of the cord locations on rear! Yours are all the way to the right so still a decent sounding model, VA7s are in the middle easy way to tell. I own a VA3 made by majesco in a model 2 and its a half board model 2. These are the best sounding and video quality if wanting a model 2 Genesis and are highly sought after due to rarity! These are equal to the model 1 HDG VA3 I have. I absolutely love the Genesis and grew up with it as my first one was a model 2 with Sonic 2 I got Christmas that year from my Grandma when I was 6. That original model 2 I had as a kid is long gone and wasn't a good one! Had very bad video and sound quality now I think of it. Being a huge fan I only want the best now. If you want a good alternative to be able to play Genesis, Sega CD, Master System and Game Gear games get the 2018 version of the Genesis AT Games Flashback and use the SD slot on it! I own one and as of now it's my primary Genesis that's hooked up looks and sounds great on a modern television. 👍

Thanks for the input here! I've only recently learned of all the variations in hardware and as a kid my friends all had Model 2s so that was my only experience with them. Is that AT Games model the one with HDMI and the 2.4 GHz wireless controllers? My chum has one and it's pretty awesome, wondering if it's the same version

Yeah, it's hard with retro consoles, then want to make sure shipping protects the box etc. You could try your local retro store or head to a convention or expo to grab one 😊

This one happens to be in fantastic shape and complete with the internal styrofoam - strong as off the factory floor 👍

I have another Model 1 Genesis that says 16-Bit but not High Definition Graphics 👍 As far as visuals go, I don't think there was a difference between the two - it's the audio of the "High Definition Graphics" console that people claim has the superior audio chip. Regardless, your memory serves correct and I'm sure you had a blast playing it. Back then we all used the RF hookups anyhow so any changes in audio or visuals were likely not noticed 😊 Thanks for watching!

My Genesis came with 1 original controller and my mother bought a slimmer one that they called the " action controller ".

Was the action controller still a 3-button style controller, but slimmer?

The official Sega wireless controller? I would believe so as the pins are the same so I don't think there would be any imitations but I can't confirm. Unfortunately I have a Sega Genesis wireless controller but no adapter 😅

Wow, great question! So great I'll probably have to make a video for it 😊 Of course the Sonic games are great. Gunstar Heroes is awesome but getting very expensive these days. Streets of Rage, NBA Jam, NHL games, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter II, Aladdin are generally more common but worth having in your games library 👍
