Got a couple of broken Sega Master Systems a while back. In this video I try to repair them! Includes of follow-up on the $82 projector's screen tearing.,
I remember seeing Ben on G4/Tech TV back in the early 2000s. And after watching him all these years on various platforms, I would expect nothing less than random songs and references to random things. Although I will never understand why someone will complain about silly things like singing, like they were forced to click on the video, and consume its contents. Ben, keep up the great work!
I, for one, imagine a Clockwork Orange scenario: A poor sod strapped to a chair, eyes forced open and moisturized by someone tending to them, as they are helplessly forced to watch RU-vid videos they don't like.
You seriously can’t figure it out? Ben is a terrific engineer and we can learn lots from him. Unfortunately he also isn’t a great singer or comedian, and that drives us away from his excellent engineering content. Selfishly, it’s annoying: unselfishly, he’s devaluing his educational output by making it inaccessible.
@@drstkova I definitely understand what you mean. But the way I see it, If someone was paying for this, they could have a valid complaint, but this is free content. I just don't see the point in criticizing free content on RU-vid. If someone doesn't like it, then don't watch. This really isn't a how to channel, it's more of a "How Ben does it" channel. which means expect corny content occasionally...and Bud.
@@Rob_M_jr I don’t want to appear arrogant but RU-vid creators are paid by our watching their content, whether it be premium RU-vid or advertisement revenue. I’m getting bored of watching Ben Heck with the sound off or skipping stupid voices and singing to find actual content.
Uncle Ben have more video than 8-bit guy recently, and I'm appreciate you express yourself freely without limitation, when you did video for element14 you limit yourself too much.
I love the style of your videos, the singing is an extra bonus - who else has a channel where the host sings to us? If you want to sing, go ahead - you be you. PS - would love to see Ben Heck Cooks.
Fun fact about Altered Beast, all the characters in it move so janky because they are mostly a weird mix of background and sprite tiles to get around system limits
I paid WAY more for my master system. I had one as a kid with a bunch of games, and I sold it to help purchase my first PC (a 486, I was around 10 at the time). I really wish I still had it now, I had a lot of good games and I kept my system in good condition. Now I have R-Type (awesome game) and Space Harrier (another good one) but that's it, and my system is really scratched up. Good on ya for the great deal! I got a model 1 genesis from a thrift store in the original box for $8CDN which I'm still stoked about.
Thank you for pointing out that VPNs don't do anything anymore. Maybe before literally every website already used encryption and before all streaming services blocked pretty much all VPNs they had a purpose but these days they just don't for most people
_Hey, Everybody. I not gonna hire you._ - Louis Rossmann You heard it here, folks. edit: I wanna see more of that Cuphead pinball project you talked about before
Keep on singing Ben. There are probably millions of tech videos, builds, repairs, etc. Your personality is what keeps the fans watching your take on the topic.
I feel like I have the same strain of ADD that you do. If I would ever make a video repairing something I would absolutely be going into non-sequiturs and random songs
Unobtainium is an engineering term developed by the Aerospace Industry. Refers to unusual or costly materials, or when theoretically considering a material perfect for their needs in all respects, except that it does not exist. The Engineers picked the name because it was amusing.
Oh man, you need to do a collab with the8bitGuy. Maybe you can find any old console in a landfill, you're doing the electronics and he is doing the case ;-)
Did the same guy run the Video Game Exchange on 27th & Grange? I used to go there all the time when I was little for my regular and super nintendo games. I think the last thing I ever got there was my first ps2 game. It was Oni....
Unfortunately, projector TVs have the same problem as hooking up an old game console to a new TV where 3D glasses and the light phaser are concerned - because the TV has to upscale the signal, there's a lag of several milliseconds, so light guns won't work because they look for the darkened screen, which hasn't arrived yet when they're looking.
I figured you were still doing a lot of things off camera such as the accessibility controllers. I love all your content, but I understand what you mean about it being the same thing over and over. Fortunately for me, I enjoy your little tangents and side comments.
Congrats on the new fridge. New fridge day is a good day! Also, I am here for singing and cat-related content, as long as some electronical experimentation and frivolity is also sprinkled in.
NEVER STOP SINGING! Singing focuses the mind and helps put you in a flow state. Also, singing the Jurassic park theme while soldering is an iconic ben heck thing. it might as well be the soldering theme at this point
I loved this repair, especially when you do your little ramblings and throw some jokes around the way. I guess I'm gonna take a look into your channel.
There is always a "karen" that complains about everything and to that I say, "shut it, no one cares!" I love hearing Ben's singing, quoting of movies, impersonating other RU-vidr's (nice!) and his laughter! Keep up the hilarious stuff Ben, and Bud is funny as hell too!
Missed the perfect opportunity for a Dave Jone's "Like I bought one!", but you did the DJI (Dave Jone's Impression) anyway, so I'll give you partial marks. XD
It's interesting how trivial it would've been (relatively speaking) to make the SMS backwards compatible with the Colecovision but I feel like it would've almost had been a negative selling point (as it would've made it seem antiquated and connected with an already dead system.)
@@BenHeckHacks awesome knowledge your dropping there BEN ,, didn't know the C-Vision was from Sega parts , here you have two SMS systems ,, one to restore and one to make a PORTABLE out of ,,, yes yes a SMS Portable could be like a GameGear with 2nd player support , and a AV output ,, food for thought ,,, also one goofball horror movie I saw a preview of ,was about a man-eating evil "Barca-Lounger" ,, I shit you not ,Ben please Google for it or RU-vid for it , it's so Ludacris it's awesome ,,keep rocking BEN HECK ,, 😸👍
@@BenHeckHacks except the Master System's SG-1000 backwards compatibility has an incorrect colour palette because they took the names of the colours literally whereas they're meant to be more pastel.
@@rustymixer2886 I come from the UK so we had the choice of versions. The Master System 3 felt more like a knockoff than a legit product even though it was licenced.
I like repairs of old stuff. I use to watch 8bit guy but you can only watch so many commodore repairs before they all look the same. I like your vids, always different and great trivia and songs :)
Is there anyway I can hire you to repair my Sega Master System?? It won’t power on. I’ve taken it to several places and no one can help me get it back up and running. Can you help? Or maybe recommend someone?
I repaired a couple dozen Master Systems to sell on ebay, nearly all just needed voltage regulators, but there were a few that had bad VDPs. I swapped one from a unit that had a cracked board, but that’s about all I could do.
@@BenHeckHacks The one I swapped out was acting the same as yours, no output to the video encoder. I believe I had another one with messed up colors, replaced the encoder, but no change.
lol, @ "but now I'm just doing the same thing over and over." Yeah, Ben, like you weren't making a Raspberry PI portable every 3 episodes. (Srsly though, we loved that.)
The best line in The Core: The guy who was making notes to writ a book get trapped with the last nuclear bomb. He pulls out histape recorder to make a not for the book, as he's been doing the whole film, looks at the tape recorder and the bomb about to go off and says, "What he fuck am I doing?"
Ben you had me rolling in laughter with your response to Bud. I have a cat named Maggie and she is just as good at listening. I love your videos, I’ve enjoyed your videos and topic for some time now.
Yeah but the French mega drives used a scart cable with a video balancer since composite needed a chip which modulated rf, and in France rf was expensive so the chip was omitted and the scart cable for French MS-DOS used a different chip@@barryhudson4238
Ladies and gentlemen, the SEGA club is proud to present the singing talent of Ben Heck and the Solderers. And here with their number one hit.. My Caps are a leakin'. :D
The "FM synthesis driver" was a homebrew replication of a Japanese exclusive add-on (that oddly ended up still being supported by the programming of some games that were never released in Japan).
Ben, would you say that it would be possible to make the Sega Master System play _better_ just by redesigning the layout of the board, and maybe by using newer versions of the same components? (so no overclocking nor anything like that.)
1. Your Goblin King casting choice is pretty good. 2. Second person who choose Matrix over No Way Home hahaha ha jokes on you. 3. That Spider-Man 2 Doc Ock fight still looks badass and better than some modern movies.
The new Matrix movie is basically Sleeping Beauty until she wakes up and then she turns into Peter Pan when she remembers you have to think good thoughts to fly.
Bud does not have a watch, so he does not know how long you were gone! How long was that in cat years? If cat years are indeed 7 (pick your own numbered , yeah I know it is a curve, outdoor vs indoor) is human years, then you were gone approximately 52 days in cat time! Poor Bud!
