It's recorded!? No way! I really thought it was put together like with the PS1 startup considering the way it sounds! Correct me if I'm wrong, but why does it seem like the Saturn startup audio is less compressed than the Dreamcast startup audio?
The Saturn's internal complexity is part of what killed the console's viability, not only because it made programming on it to its fullest a challenge, but it also made downsizing the innards to reduce costs particularly difficult compared to the original PlayStation. The Sony PlayStation made extensive use of VLSI fabrication for their chips, combining multiple components into one IC. That had the benefit of enabling substantial reduction of board sizes with successive models; it's amazing how much the PlayStation logic board had physically shrunk from that used in the SCPH-1001 to the one used in the SCPH-9001. For all it was capable of, the Saturn was a hodgepodge of discrete components that didn't lend itself well to scaling down, so the console was very expensive to manufacture and remained that way throughout its market life, even despite newer models reducing the cost, though not substantially so. The problem for Sega: every time Sony could afford to lower the price of the PlayStation, Sega had to eat it by lowering the price of the Saturn to remain competitive. Of course, in the console business, you try to make your money from profits earned from software while selling consoles at a loss to help spurn adoption. But the Saturn's complexity made this approach very painful for Sega in the long run, especially when more developers decided to jump to PlayStation, eroding the Saturn's viability.

Looking at the PS4 but also the original Xbox and the PSP due to their popularity in the latest poll. I still have to do research on these before committing to videos for them but I intend to have videos for these in the near future.
I owned a Sega Genesis, 32X, and Sega CD all attached together.. I still have them too. But I never owned a Saturn or Dreamcast :( I had ONE friend who owned a Dreamcast in high school, we used to love playing those games at his very filthy hoarder house lol.
