Fred Benedetti performs the Bach "Chaconne" for Maestro Segovia in the 1986 Masterclass at USC. He is playing on a 1943 Hermann Hauser Sr. guitar loaned to him by Dorothy DeGoede. Dorothy graciously allowed the participants of the masterclass to use these instruments. To his knowledge Fred and Marcelo Kayath (who played a 1948 Hauser and who actually owns the instrument now) are the only participants who used these instruments. Fred used the Hauser for two of his lessons with Maestro Segovia. It was risky (since Fred's usual guitar: a Miguel Rodriguez was much larger) but remarkable to play the "Bach - Chaconne" on this instrument for Segovia. In this part 2 video, Fred plays Manual Ponce's "Scherzino Mexicano"

Very rich tone, if even a bit romantic interpretation of the Bach piece.

Thanks for sharing! It must have been nerve wracking playing a different instrument than what you were used to. Nice job!

I have been learning this piece for years now. I pick it up and put it back down. I'm very happy to see the great Maestro with such a worthy student. I've learned a lot from these two videos. Thank you for sharing Fred. If you have a full recording of the piece I would love to hear it.

09:10 Maestro Segovia seems pleased with the larger print on the sheet music here. Segovia was plagued with eye problems and was having problems following the score earlier. The piece that Mr. Benedetti then plays is just about the sweetest thing I've heard on guitar. Very lovely.
