Seiko Ginza 1959 Alpinist and Presage - Hands On Look! 

The Alpinist dial is amazing, the video showed it very well. Very tempted.

The paving design on the face is hardly visible indoors, unless you are in a brightly lit room. It is more visible outside in daylight. It looks more like a dark blue/ grey face until you look really close. Very nice watch considering the price range and is extremely accurate. A classy watch for any occasion. First thing I do with a new watch is cover the clasp surface with clear film to protect it from inevitable scratches. Nice video and review, keep them coming. Cheers 👍

The open heart kinda spoils that beautiful dial for me, the alp is deffo where its at. That thing is a certified stunner. Wish they would have made it a no date though as it throws off the symmetry.

Agree with you on the open heart. Not sure who they appeal to. My biggest disappointment with the Alpinist Re- is the thickness. I just don't want to wear a watch that thick with that aesthetic. My Seiko Tuna looks proper with its height but not this watch IMO. You did a really good job presenting both watches. Thank you.

My bracelet end links and the lugs had a little gap as well. Wish Seiko improves the quality of their finishing! The dial is stunning on the Alpinist. Love mine

Bought both yesterday coz i couldnt decide but I think I might sell the Presage. I can see myself getting bored with it.

Comparison with an Alpinist may be unfair (which you point out) it's comparing a gorgeous watch with an even more stunning watch, Presage will lose everytime. However, the presage has a lovely sunburst on the 24 hour dial, and openheart is ok, the Hamilton Jazzmaster has a much more aggressive openheart and still works ok. For toughness, I wouldn't buy the Alpinist either, that's what G-Shock was designed for. Nonetheless, in the same price range, the Presage is outstanding compared with Tissots, Mondails, Wengers, Timex, and other Seikos. Thanks for the video, it's a good opportunity to see the watches properly.

13mm is very thick watch… would it be too big on 16mm (6.5 inch) wrist?

I have to agree with you. Why would they make such a beautiful dial and put a big hole in it to make the open heart.

I would’ve guessed that these two Seiko offerings would’ve been more than a grand each.

No matter how pretty, eye catching, or comfortable to wear, the bottom line is, the difference between wearing jewelry and a watch, is that the watch’s function is to tell the time, accurately and dependably, in a wide range of conditions. I love the looks of these, but performance specs seem murky. A sad pass for me.

The case on that "Alpinist" looks not as elegant as on the Sarb-series imo.

The alpinist is easily the best Seiko of the year. The presage is a bit of a visual mess, though.

Shame the Presage has hardlex and not sapphire like the Alpinist. :(

Dial of the alpinist is nice(except the date) and the presage oh my god they distroyed this nice dial with this ugly hole to show ? What? Seiko movement? Lol seiko like seiko......

I bought the Seiko Ginza Open Heart on Black Friday for $200AUD less than everywhere else and just hoped against hope that in person the beautiful tiled dial would overcome the messy & busy design and open heart feature... It didn't... It's WAY WORSE in person than in the press shots, even compared to the review videos of it. Turns out the Black Bezel surrounding the watch really darkens the whole watch face and in person the beautiful bright Teal colour looks like more like a dull metallic Cobalt Blue instead. DON'T BUY ONE. I posted it back the next day for a refund. Oh and even by Seiko standards that's a nasty bracelet.
