As a airline pilot who travels to Europe. I love the SSK003 for it's 3 time zones. No messing with the lug. Only thing one has to do is use the bezel. I set the watch to my home base time. The GMT to the 24 hours marks on the watch face. The cities I travel to on the bezel. Super easy. It's a true Pilot's watch. 20-40X cheaper. Funny how these type of watches are made for pilots. However, the reviews seldom mention this fact and how well they function as a pilots watch.
@@currentaf8455 show me a digital watch that shows 3 time zones at a glance and time zone change with a simple turn or push of a button? I like to get one.
Not every watch thieving criminal can spell Rolex. Nor will they stop you and ask to check the brand before they rip it from your arm. The only silver lining is, that. It won't cost £thousands to replace each time.
I had several GMT Master timepieces, older and newest generations. And I always have many different types of Seiko timepieces in my collection. As a Captain, navigating from one time zone to the other continuously, using and operating Seiko timepieces is always very easy. And having 3 time zones is a great advantage. And once those movements are regulated well you can enjoy reliable and very consistent time telling for many years without needing very expensive servicing at certain service centers. So, my vote goes for the Seiko without a single second hesitation.
Great review. Lots of value for the money with the SSK. Rolex is roughly 40x more expensive than the SSK. Is the Rolex 40x better than the Seiko? No way.
I do prefer Seiko. This GMT got inspiration from Rolex, but there is own characteristics from the Classic SKX. San Martin is only a clone from China, zero design.
That's why this kind of comparison is interesting. Two watch companies with totally different strategies, scale and products. For many, seiko is a good enough watch given its function, price and availability. Rolex is good but majority of it is about artificial short supply, price speculation, hype and snobs.
The Seiko Jubilee is good, but when you get them side by side and in the hand, you really notice the difference between the two. Regardless, Seiko did a much better job with the Jubilee compared to their other offerings.
My favourite watch of all time is the SKX009 which i've worn probably 95% of the time since I got it in 2015. My Rolex's come and go, but the SKX is like a family member, I have to force myself to wear something else hah! This SSK is something I can definently see myself buying and wearing instead of my SKX as I do actually need the GMT function nowadays working with people across the world with my 2 businesses. I'd like to see a red/blue bezel insert for the SSK, thats the only thing holding me back at the moment, I like the splash of red. :)
i have to admit, I love the SSK003's color scheme. The broad red GMT hand against that blue dial just looks fantastic. I just hate that Seiko insisted on using hardlex for this watch. The Batgirl is incredible, obviously.
Literally doesnt matter, infact I own this watch and the hardlex i feel is better because it doesn't smudge up. I wear the watch daily(over a year) still no visible scratches on hardlex and have gone into the ocean and pools with it and it held up.
@@trippynicktv2985 then you have much better luck with mineral/hardlex than I have. I've had many different Citizens and Seikos over the years with mineral, and outside of 2, I've gotten scratches on all of them. I'm a lefty, so I tend to bang my watch on things more than a righty would. For me, sapphire is always the first choice.
Alex and Edwin are right. The SSK fits my 6.5 inch wrist beautifully due to the compact lug to lug length. I have reviewed it (the black version) on my channel, ‘outsider watches’ Rob
Yeah, I've tried already they wear smaller than the case size might indicate, but I am more of a smaller watch kinda of guy. If they released a 38 it would feel more like a 36 I believe, that would be perfect for my personal taste
I’m 62. I’ve bought several Seikos, Citizens, and Fossils. None of them broke or felt cheap. If I could design a watch, it would be the Seiko we’re looking at. Correction: I have a 1980 Seiko quartz that broke, but it was 35+ years old.
I feel like one of the biggest letdowns is the lack of clicking on the dial on the seiko. Such a small difference that I feel affects the “quality” feel of the watch
I bought the batgirl at the AD in 2021. It’s the best modern Rolex imo and the colors are much nicer than the Pepsi. I really hope a coke is soon to come, which I’d probably buy in the oyster to complement the batgirl. The seiko is a decent watch for the price, but it’s nowhere close to Rolex quality. I think this would be better if you compared it to grand seiko, which in some ways can be considered higher quality than Rolex.
Well, you're comparing a $20,000 watch to a $500 watch. Of course there is going be a difference. I think the Seiko stacks up rather well for being an affordable automatic GMT.
Just Got My SEIKO 5 GMT From The A.D...The Build And Functionality Of The GMT, An Automatic With About 41hrs Power Reserve,Jubilee Bracelet..WR etc Cant Ask For More At The Price Range....Glad I Purchased This..Just SUBSCRIBED TO THIS CHANNEL
I own both. My Seiko is the orange dial. As far as I am concerned, the Rolex is over priced and not a good utility watch. You can go anywhere with the Seiko. You might have your wrist cut for the over priced Rolex. Ask yourself; is it really worth your hard earned money to buy the Rolex? Ego trip. No long term value to buying the Rolex instead of investing the difference.
The Seiko is the best GMT on the market today. The dial on the "Blueberry" model is stunning. Shades of indigo and deep blue. The bezel is highly legible, and tough as nails. The proce also makes it perfect. Travelling with a $20,000 watch makes no sense. The Seiko can be replaced easily, and serviced cheaply,. It's a fun holiday watch. Mine has taken a beating, pool, ocean, rough International travel. And I'm just getting started.
I see slightly more detail in that rolex but not even close to as much to justify the price difference. And that seiko movement can be regulated to be as accurate as the rolex ( know from experience ). So replacing the. seiko stock clasp for a milled one ( couple of tenners ) and you are done.
Let's be real. The Seiko is for your ordinary average everyday people. The Rolex is for doctors, lawyers, lottery winners and other very wealthy people. I'm a Seiko person myself. And even if I had the money to buy a Rolex I would probably spend the money on motorcycles instead. :D
The engraved ROLEX rehaut is horrible and a wasted opportunity. They should have marked the chapter ring with 24 hour makings like Seiko did. This would make the watch much more useful for its designed purpose. As a long haul pilot, I have to reset the time frequently and sadly, the Seiko is an office GMT/ Great review! thanks
Both are nice watches. The Rolex is $10,000 more than the Seiko and the cost to service the Rolex is more than the Seiko. The Rolex however will appreciate in value, so it is a good investment. Good comparison. Thanks.
I am starting to realize that most people are buying a name and years ago the Rolex seemed worth the money but most the value is in its profit margins and those margins are used for advertising and the real value is exclusivity 😊
Not really, one can easily compare Orient Bambino to Patek Calatrava and actually the difference will be less than the Seiko vs Rolex visual difference here, doesn't mean that one "wins". They are different purposes, Seiko is a ford focus, Rolex is Porsche and Patek is McLaren, one does not drive to supermarket in a McLaren but that doesn't mean that the Ford "wins".
I never understood why they cannot add a day window to these pilot watches, it is more important and useful sometimes than the actual date, especially for those who does not have a fix Monday to Friday workweek, or who are in home office all the time, or during a long vacation it is super useful. This and a screwdown crown would make it perfect for me. However I just installed a 12 hours bezel on my SKX009, and it is also great for dual time zone - sure you have to know if it is day or night, but I think that is easy to decide, lol.
For the price of one Rolex 126710BLNR, I can buy fifty Seiko SSKs. ;). If only Seiko reduces the case diameter to 40mm or even 39mm and flatten that case height, it would be a perfect watch.
The biggest functional difference between the two is that the Seiko is not a "true GMT" in that you can't set the hour hand independently. If you travel across time zones with a true GMT, you can simply set the hour hand forward or backward by an hour or hours without disturbing the minute hand. You can't do that with the Seiko.
I just got the ssk001 with gray/black bezel and there are nicer touches on the Rolex but for the price I could not justify the price plus all the resellers marking up these too
Nice video man. Absolutely adore the Seiko Blueberry. I have a 6.5 inch wrist. Should i go for the Seiko SSK 003 or should i wait for it in 40 or 38 mm somewhere in future?
There is no guarantee that Seiko will release these in a smaller size, but it would be amazing if they did. I also have a 6.5 inch wrist and although the watch is a little big, I don't mind the size at all. I would prefer if it was smaller, but there's no telling when or if they will reduce the size. If you can, I highly recommend trying it on before you make a purchase. If you like it, I'd say go for it.
I love the Seiko. And I must say, in this day and age, watches in general don’t play as big a role in our lives to justify the big ticket. I check the time on my smartphone more often than on my wristwatch. That being said, the Seiko is a much more sensible watch.
On the list for the Rolex, but recently having added the yellow SSK017, I find this watch truly amazing. It makes no sense to buy the Rolex at all. The Seiko 5 is incredible. Just buy it now!!
Seiko the best, far cheaper than Rolex. Many customers love Seiko than Rolex. Seiko made In Japan with high quality and with affordable price. Love Seiko made in Japan. can find people wearing Seiko everywhere. Would buy Seiko. Don't want waste money with Rolex because we have Seiko made in Japan. 🏋️🏋️🏋️🏋️🏋️
Actually I like the Seiko much better...and a ton of $$$$ savings.. ALSO a very notable difference is that the Seiko GMT hand is underneath the hour hand as it should other than the Rolex GMT hand which would cover the hour hand at times.
I swapped the hadlex crystal on my ssk003k1, cracked the bezel insert and got a Seafoam SRPD GMT style glass bezel insert and it still looks great. I will be swapping the OEM bezel and looking to add a lumed ceramic bezel insert. The SSK003 is more gorgeous than Cara Delevingne, who is arguably the most beautiful woman ever 😂
It means that seiko with less money can offer almost the same than Rolex, not because you pay more it means that is much better If you get a grand seiko with a similar model of rolex are more affordable than rolex and could be much better time pieces The Grand Prix of Geneve is the place to show how's better and Seiko has showed so many time who are they. Both are great watches but with different concepts
Excellent in-depth comparison video. I owned the Seiko SSK003 for a whopping 5 days 😂🤦🏻♂️. Something was wrong with the movement/rotor because if I took it off for a few hours, the time would be hours off regardless of being fully wound. So, I returned it & I didn’t want to deal with another issue. The SSK003 is a beautiful watch & is such a great value, but I’m anxiously waiting for a Batgirl at my Rolex AD, although it may be another couple years 😂. This is a great watch to hold you over in the meantime & it scratches the itch as you aspire toward acquiring the Rolex Batgirl. Subscribed!
Seiko works flawless for at least 1/2 century, don't need maintenance or repair..if, if, , if repair needed cost max $50... Roles 10 yrs max .. then time is not accurate, & repair services cost.. almost price of new Rolex!! I had one!! Ugh just like Porsche, Lambo Vs. Lexus..!! Just image!!
It's a no-brainer for me. I'll take the Seiko any and every time. I see no need for a snotbag watch that doesn't do anything better then a Seiko. So the rolex keeps better time(?) like it would take a year to really see that difference. Seiko has been my watch brand since 1970, and I won't change now. In fact I just ordered a new Seiko about a week ago. Xin Loi rolex...
I liked the video. What line of work are you in? The calluses on your hands or one of your models hands looks like a man’s man’s hands. Just curious if those come from working out at the gym. Your review is a good one. I enjoyed it. Thank you so much
Alex and Edwin are right. The SSK fits my 6.5 inch wrist beautifully due to the compact lug to lug length. I have reviewed it (the black version) on my channel, ‘outsider watches’ Rob
Comes across as a “look at me post”, you just HAD to add the second part about your video, instead of just letting the comment stand about the fitment only in the first section of the comment. Self serving.
Save your money and buy a Rolex. This nis an heirloom item, built to last decades. Your investment will be safe with a Rolex, and as the saying goes " when you buy the best you only cry once".
This heirloom argument is just an excuse. I own a 40-year old Rolex that used to belong to by grandfather. It’s just an old, scratched up watch that needs maintenance, which I’d rather keep in the drawer it’s in.
I personally think the Seiko is a much better looking watch. I bought both of my sons the seiko for Christmas but unfortunately one has had to be returned as it’s stopped working after a week !
It appears the Rolex is insanely overpriced. But what I’d like to know from a jeweler is which one will go longer with fewer problems? Which one is easier to maintain and repair?
You're comparing apples to oranges. If someone is considering the Rolex, they're not even thinking of the Seiko. The only reason to consider the Seiko is because the Rolex is out of your range.
You can buy an entire collection of Seikos for every occasion for the price of that 1 single Rolex. I wouldn't even bother with the Rolex if you ask me.
