There doesn't seem to be much love on RU-vid for the mini turtle, which is a shame. So let the lovefest begin! I think it is great and the perfect choice if you want to look like you are wearing a big watch, without feeling like you are wearing a big watch. Shame about the current pricing strategy. Thanks for the reviews. I am 68 years old and with 7.25" wrist size my blue Mini Turtle is perfection. It is the one watch in my small collection that always makes me smile when I look at it. My only niggle is the lack of a signed crown. The date magnifier suits my older eyes and coupled with the other design elements make this an enjoyable and unique watch experience. If Seiko does other colors and reduces the purchase cost I would seriously consider another Mini Turtle on my wrist.

Wanted to add another reason why the mini turtle wears small is the size of the sloping bezel. Case is 42mm however the bezel is only 39mm. My Oris 39.5mm Aquis looks the same size watch as it has roughly the same bezel size.

I actually prefer this to the SKX. The indices look more finished, and take the SKX design a little further away from the standard subby dots. Unique without being weird.

I bought this watch few months ago, I have had many similar watches in the past including Steinhart (Poor man's Rolex) but none of my wacthes have ever been so eye catching or looked as good as this one does. A perfect bang for the bucks. Seiko offers way higher finish quality compare to other brands in this price tag.

I visited my fav watch shop to service a Dracula monster.. Boss's seiko shop is a buffet but i didn't see a baby turtle on display and asked if he had any to show.. He pulled out one JDM piece and mentioned.. No more in stock.. I took him home..

just got mine a few weeks ago. i wasn't sure about the cyclops but it grows on you... the more i wear it the more i appreciate the mini turtle. it's my new fav watch

Bought one last week. Got a 5,6 inch wrist and wears better than anything else. This and the G-Shock dw-5600 fits very well actually. Have a muscular disorder so the bracelet was too heavy, but brilliant with a silicone strap 👍

I bought the srpc39, blue mini turtle on a black soft rubber strap. It has applied indices and wears smaller than its 42mm because of the 37-38mm bezel and the case sides are scalloped under so there is little resistance against the wrist and hand when bending your hand up. And as a bonus it has a nice cyclops on the date. If you draw the line at 40mm , you should try this one on for size. You’ll be surprised at the comfort, modest presence and the design in detail.

The Mini Turtle PADI edition is a great choice if you want something less dull. I bought that one full price when it came out and it was slightly more than I wanted to pay for it, I agree, but once I had it in hand and I saw that wave dial all my doubts faded away.

Too many people are wearing oversized fashion watches so anything that promotes appropriate sized watches for the average wearer needs big love! I went skx009-skx013-samurai-Steinhart OVM39 before realising smaller watches suited my 7 1/4" wrist despite being in the crossover size. Small watches forever 👍

One time I went into a shop and tried turning the bezel of four different SRP777's they had in stock. One was butter smooth and effortless to turn. Another felt like molasses and took all of my strength to turn. The other two fell somewhere in between. My point is, talking about how the bezel feels is almost pointless to talk about on Seikos, as different pieces, even of the same model vary unbelievably.

Nice watch, I’ve seen this in blue, lovely. Re the cyclops, all that’s required is a jet style cigar lighter aimed at the top surface of the cyclops, then after about 3 seconds flick it off with a scalpel. Clean off any glue with acetone. Here in 2020, SKXs are going for bonkers prices, these mini turtles are now bargains. I’ve just bought a 3 week old SPB053 for £410, definitely well worth getting, beautifully made with superb Zaratsu polishing. Good video, Jody.

bought mine back in december 2017, when it first came out, and is a keeper for my collection. you are right, it wears quite well on the wrist (and i have 7.25" wrists). i recently swapped the OEM bracelet for an angus jubilee from strapcode. for rubber options, if i may suggest, a barton elite silicone 20mm strap. i saw a post today on FB that seiko will come out with a green and yellow colorway for this model....

I just received mine today! I love it! Nice little upgrade over the skx. One thing, I bought my new on eBay and after wearing it for an hour I decided to take it off and admire my new watch. Well I noticed one end link moving too much and find out there was a replacement spring bar that was a standard slim one and it was BENT!! So I messaged them asking to send me some new spring bars. I have a replacement bar but it’s not as thick as oem. Also have Uncle Seiko waffle arriving tomorrow Rant, adjusting the bracelet is a pain in the BUTT!! The stupid collar goes on the outside and makes it difficult to reinstall

I like the "regular" turtle well enough; the Mini-turtle would be also way up there for consideration... if it had a recessed 4-o-clock crown. As-is, imo it visually sticks out too much. And ofc since it's not so popular, there's a lot less aftermarket bezel and crystal options for it.

Agree. The PADI edition is the most interesting of the Mini Turtles. That’s the one I purchased and I’m very happy with it. I suspect they’ll eventually issue “special editions” in different color schemes to help raise sales volumes.

Benjamin Reece well, if there’s one thing I’ve learned about Seiko, it’s never to expect that Seiko will do the sensible thing with their collections. One can always hope, but I’ll prepare for the worst. The Mini Turtle may very well be discontinued just as it’s gaining popularity. Such is Seiko.

I really like the case, more than a turtle looks sharp and modern. The dial isn't bad but it think with some work it could be a home run. Just not as sleek as the case.

Wears very well on smaller wrists. The padi version adds a bit of interest and colour. A save the ocean version would be good.

I really love the mini turtle, people have been wanting a gen 2 skx for a while and I really think this is it. The blue on blue is the one I’d have. It’s a culmination of a few seiko divers in design. Cushion style case from the full size turtle. But the lugs have a sumo style cut, sloped curvature as well to prevent the watch from looking like a straight circle. The flying V at the 12 is reminiscent of the SKXa65 limited edition dial. But yes the Issue I have with this watch is the same as yours, the price. In the US a mini turtle comes at around 360-400. And as a modder, for that price I can buy an SKX, get an nh35 in there with a lumed ceramic bezel, sapphire, new dial and hands. Basically a complete mod. One day maybe the used market will have some deals for me. Fingers crossed until then.

Nice watch but I'm getting tired of Seiko's QC on their lower end models. The indices or markers at both the 4 and 5 position are slightly off centre. That was the reason I sold my Samurai.

Hi Jody, thanks for the really good review on the Seiko mini Turtle which is such an under rated watch. Your comments and assessment of the watch are spot on, and if you want a bit more colour go for the beautiful PADI mini Turtle with the wave textured dial and the pepsi bezel, then pop it on a Seiko or Strapcode bracelet and 'BoBs' your uncle - a real stunner. I own a similar watch. The srpc41. Come on a blue rubber strap and it stayed that way! Love it to bits. Gets the same amount of wrist time as my full size divers.

Jody I know that you have made videos upgrading your SKX013. I was doing the same, I just noticed that Strapcode released a super jubilee bracelet and Crystaltimes now has a crown and stem for the SKX013 and they also sell the NH36 movement. So now we can finish our entire SKX upgrading.

It provides the necessary counter-weight and is actually smart design. Also, if you know where one end is - you know where the other end is... not hard to work out.

I think the mini turtle simply came on to the market too late. By the time it was announced everyone already had a regular size turtle; if it had been released at the same time as the regular version I think slim wristed guys would have picked the mini turtle instead. The full size turtle wears very well on a small wrist; if people already have a regular turtle it's hard to justify buying the mini turtle which is very similar.

Exactly. I got the full size with grey sunburst dial on a whim after watching Apocalyps Now again lol. Looks great on a brown Horween or that black waffle. But anyways... should have gotten this one instead.

I hear you... But I got into horology about 6 months ago, although I was always interested. In 6 months I now own 3 turtles. The Gilt turtle with Arabic day comp, the PADI on a leather two stitch strap and the 777 on an oxblood leather strap. You can see it on my IG, "van_guren". Point is, these watches are intoxicating. Even if they aren't perfect.

We moan about the skx but just look at it, it's stunning, you can mod them to a high quality spec, mine has a lined up dial, ceramic bezel insert, amazing super jubilee from strapcode, signed crown, and a low domed sapphire, it feels like a watch that cost £1000, and I don't mind the 7s26 movement, that just adds to the personality of the watch, but that mini turtle (oh lord) i want one 👍🏻👍🏻

Another terrific review here, Jody. You are spot on regarding this watch. Good size for smaller and med wrists. I don't like to have my 8 1/4" wrist overwhelmed by anything bigger than 42mm. Great movement and dial, beautiful case. If they lose the hardlex and drop the price to meet the competition, THIS is the Seiko I would get. We will see what the after market brings. Now on to more important things; The Logo! I am all for the update. It looks impressive and has the diver appearance which suits the channel very well. But I am happy to say that I received my coffee mug with the "Vintage" logo, just before the change. I am now looking forward to my mug becoming a collectors item and waiting for the value to double! Look for my unboxing review and mug comparison in 2020. LOL

Having tried one of these on and comparing it to my reissue turtle (SRP777) my only real gripe other than the price, was those indices. If you could get a regular turtle or skx dial on it as a little mod project I bet that would look fantastic. Also, I couldn't agree more about the cyclops, what an odd design decision.

I have the frost dial mini turtle with custom miltat jubilee bracelet and it's just the best. IDK how else to describe. My wrists are average too. If I want a big watch I'll wear the kamikaze homage or the monster. But the mini turtle is my edc

I picked up the LE for Macy’s in blue on the Seiko new style strap - nice 👍🏾 Not a fan of the cyclops but the overall package is nice. I paid about $240ish after getting a double sale price before Christmas.

Great review! I bought mine after watching your unboxing video. I've been wearing it pretty much every day since I've gotten it. I like the monochrome look. It's what gives this watch added versatility. I have both the SKX013 and this watch. In terms of quality this watch is much better. I think the SKX013 is more comfortable on the stock jubilee bracelet, but the dial does look a bit small for a dive wstch. IMO, the mini turtle is worth the extra money.

Hey Jody, great video as always. Having a 6.75" wrist, I've usually stayed from any watch exceeding a 40mm case. Otherwise, to me anyway, it begins to look cartoonish. I may look into this mini-turtle though, based on your suggestion. Also, through an earlier vid (and recommendation), I purchased my first Tissot. The PR 100 quartz with a gray dial. Love it. I've been collecting (not really in an organized way) for 20+ years of mainly moderately-priced watches (what my budget can support). Several models from Seiko, Orient, Casio, and Timex; a Bulova, Technomarine, Victorinox, Rotary; a Cadisen and Guanqin (from your rec); and some others. Waiting on my first Vaer (the classic) to arrive shortly. Anyhow, keep up the good work! Love the new intro. Lastly, I just became one of your Patreon supporters to help do my small bit so you can continue to grow.

6.75 inch wrist reporting in, the short lug to lug make it fit my wrist extremely well, I think in future I’ll stick to cushion cased watches for that short lug to lug Got a Hamilton pilot pioneer mechanical earlier last year as well with More or less the same lug to lug and it’s great on me

Hi Jody, great review friend. If the mini turtle would go to sks price I would really consider it. I see these a smidge over 300 dollars. It is a very nice watch and a nice bracelet. There is also a mini monster but think it is a Seiko 5 and I have not seen it in person. I have too many Seiko's. I would love to get rid of the two Seiko 5 watches, they have gone down in value and if you sell on eBay, it is like 15 to 20 percent in eBay and Paypal fee's so not sure what I am going to do. What I don't like is the hollow bracelet and only one micro adjustment. I guess I could swap for a rubber bracelet, these seem popular these days. I like your new intro. I am going to watch it again. The movement in the turtle is more expensive than that in the skx. You pay more, and you get hacking. These will never be the same price as long as they have different movements.

ACTUALLY is best the end links on the bracelet dont meet the case of the watch.. when not well done it could prevent the bezel from rotating properly such is the case of after market Miltat Strap Code...believe me i have stumble upon that more than once

My sweet spot for a watch is 45 mm I like the watch but I will go with the full-size my wrist is over 8 inches. I never used to like the turtles I’d kind of stayed away from them until I tried one on now I think I want to have one

I've asked this before, but do you plan on doing some reviews of the more expensive AliExpress watches such as San Martin? They make some really nice ones. I'm currently wearing my San Martin SN001. Also Reef Tiger makes some really nice ones too. I'm currently considering getting the Reef Tiger RGA8238. It's looks absolutely stunning, especially for the price.

Why hasn’t the Mini Turtle taken off like many thought it would? No sapphire crystal, the indices just don’t work (go round or rectangle, don’t try to split the difference by doing both at once) and that ugly cyclops over the date window, so necessary.

The number under the X on the back cover, what does it mean? In the case of yours, does it mean you have the 2490th mini-turtle that was made?

Question, can you turn your bezel pip to 9 o’clock then look on the side of the bezel at the end link and let me know if yours is kinda angled up like a chamfer I guess is what it would be called? Thanks
