Today, I test 10 NH34s out of the box - 5 Japan factory movements and 5 Malaysia movements to see if paying the premium for a Japan factory movement is worth it.

Excellent video, just subscribed. The timing of me seeing this video appear on my feed is perfect :). Recently I bought 2 watches, a black dial Seiko 5 Field gmt with the Seiko branded movement and a Chinese Corgeut GMT with the Malaysian movement. I know there is a little bit of a lottery with Seiko movements and the performance we might get, though I got a bit of a surprise with my results. I set both the watches to the world clock app on my phone. For the next two weeks I had a mix of wearing both and keeping them in the watchbox. Each had approx 6 days wearing and 8 days in the box. I then checked both of them against the app time. The Seiko Field watch had gained 85 seconds, about +6 spd. Now the surprise for me. The movement in the Corgeut was, incredibly, still bang on at 0 deviation over the same period ! Still not believing it, I've been checking it daily and every day it's bang on. I'm not saying that this is something to be expected by any means but more that I won the Seiko movement lottery !! Ironically, the Seiko cost me €403 after a small discount and the Corgeut cost me €90 inc import duties.

Great video! Should these have been run at a 53* lift angle instead of 52?
@JustMyPinion
@JustMyPinion 11 месяцев назад
Yup! The timegrapher resets every time I turn it off and resets to 52 and while shooting I didn't remember to reset it. This does, however, get the point across that the M and J variants aren't that different though, since measured the same way.

Hi, awesome video, please wear gloves when touching movements, nobody like to receive movements with fingerprints.

I typically do when shipping parts out, but I wasn't going to keep my cots on for the 45 minutes it took to film this video while trying to use my phone's touchscreen.

I had white and blue crowns for nh34 and nh35

Seems like for whatever reason, Seiko's been changing up crowns. I used to just get batches with clear crowns, but now I'm getting blues and greens 🤷‍♂

Well they are also made in China now but TMI don't use a nation code, I can't sent he difference at all even under macro, also I have noticed the 4r30 SEIKO 5 movements don't say japan movement not even the gmt Made in Japan is so loosen that I'm almost sure the china/malay movements are sent to Japan and have had the rotor swapped or even just marked 4r3x and seiko then sent to Japan as made in Japan can be just the factory is rented by a Japanese company and has a Japanese design and oversight, sure seiko may make the jewels, springs, balance, paaletn anchor, oil shock springs and maybe a few other parts. I lived in China and have seen the poem factory's make well everything apart from the movement for swatch brands Taking a QCd HKPT or hangzhou 2824 and comparing it with a standard 2824 no real difference apart from sometimes a couple of less hours in the reserve. Nh30s are very easy to assemble but I prefer Orient movements even though interchagable but Orient is better quality and more accurate.

I was planning to buy the pagani design gmt with nh34 movement but I noticed that they address it as japan nh34 not seiko japan nh34, in other models of pagani design where they use nh35 movement they addressed it as seiko nh35 clearly. Now even I have started to think that these movements are all manufactured in china, just they are playing with names

@@emazmodak I mean enough parts are from Japan for it to be classed as japanese but seiko wants to distance itself form the 3rd party movements, but honestly a 4r35/4r34 and a NH35/Nh34 no difference. The ones that say made in Japan I highly doubt are made in the nation of Japan. It's the same with japanese jdm watch cases, it's all made in China same with Swiss under omega/tudor it's all made in China and even alot of movement parts are. I have looked with a loupe at a 4r34 and a malay/Chinese Nh34 and even the machine marks are the same only difference is the marks on the rotor and the lazer engraving on the plate. The NH30s are not bad movement but just very basic as in 3hz with handwinding and hacking. I have had ETA clones from China that have been more accurate than ETA. Nothing wrong with made in China 97% of warch parts are. If you want a Japanese movement you have miyita and the 9000 series at 4hz are nice or S.epson YN55 or YN56 (55 is date 56 is day date) its a direct swap with a NH35/6 I would avoid oagani and just buy a toolkit and the parts you want to mod. The whole watch business is based on lies. But they all ways say japanese NH30, since TMI took over I don't even think you can even get japanese anymore but it's not like the Japanese ones are even made in Japan. The Nh34 has an odd mechanism and is just a modded Nh36

@@emazmodak I may upload a video of how they made the gmt mod from the Nh36 in crown position 2 when you change it to set the gmt hand it will swing a few gears over to the gmt pinion then when you change the date it will swing them back to the date wheel. Some of them are plastic and I have noticed TMI saying it should be serviced every 4 years and the accuracy rating is worse than the Nh36 and nh35. So only time will tell how reliable the 34 is. I really don't find them to be anything special just basic 3hz 42 hour movement with handwind, quickset and hacking. They are in no way pretty but they work, no idea why people use glass backs. With miyota you are buying made in Japan and the 9000 series that has direct second drive at 4hz are great just with they had micro adjust. But I've never had problems With QCd HKPT or hangzhou ETA 2824 clones. Ironically when the price of NH30s went up so much company's ordered japanese made movements from seiko Epson as they are a direct replacement, they are more expensive and better in every way but people think a Nh35 is seiko japan and it's not. I'm not happy with swatch groups powermatic 80 and not giving the customer the option of a standard 2824 The sistem51(swissmstic) is the worst movement I have ever seen and the swatch blancpain watches most will fail in months. TMI also make 4hz high end seiko movements but due to the price not many buy them.

@@luked2767 Wow, even I thought that Nh's are seiko movement, even I saw a video of how the movement works at 2nd crown, I think the complication they have created for the gmt can have a malfunction overtime. Anyways I have ordered one from AliExpress It will come in a few weeks. Only time will tell how reliable they are as its quite a new movement yet to be proved Just hoping that it's good and reliable 😀. Your video could be very helpful for the newcomers in this industry There ain't a lot of nh34 video online to be honest.
