I personally have both the Seiko and Citizen watches too. I feel this Seiko presage model is still very common in the market. The special texture dial of Citizen Kuroshio and the ability to look at the clock during the night are the great advantageous for me. Also I am wearing the history of citizen Kuroshio 64 with limited edition status that makes the watch even more outstanding. In the end I keep the citizen Kuroshio 64 green dial watch instead in my collection.
History of the citizen, much more interesting. Quality of the piece, easily as good as the presage. I have one, had three, kept the gimlet with the 4r57 movement but the citizen with that 8310 movement is just cool. The dial on the Seiko is so common amongst the presage lineup now and the case finishing is the same across the board. I do like my presage, it doesn’t get the wrist time the citizen get however. Good review man, keep it up!
History has Nothing to do with anything. Lexus had No history whatsoever when they hit the market back in 89' with the most refined car any money can buy.
This citizen is a hidden gem honestly ! I've got the one with the green dial with the metal band . Out of my 4 automatics ( 2 miyota 9000 series and 1 swiss Ronda movement ) this one HOLDS TIME the best ! Keeping it on a winder a whole day and it lost ZERO seconds . Had it off a winder for nearly 3 days and it was still running when I returned and had only lost 1 minute of time ! Incredible piece
@@dinodiaz3532 yep ! Update I've now got a tissot gentleman with the powermatic 80 . The kuroshio is STILL the BEST time keeper the damn thing kept time with the atomic time for two days straight ! Crazy
Dat intro!! Awesome vid, I gotta agree with everything you had pointed out as well! I think it’s time I give Citizen a try now haha. Great job and beautiful watches! 😎🍻👍
@@TheTownWatch awesome! If you still have it available for sale after I buy my Tudor Black Bay I’ll definitely consider! Hoping to get the BB very soon. 😊👍
The moment citizens extra 20 hour power reserve was discounted as though it was nothing...n seiko movement got the same rating...it was a clear indicator that seiko was going to be the winner... Don't get me wrong, im a seiko fanboy. I have 3. But this comparison made me wanna buy my first ever citizen. And honestly the only places seiko scored better was the dial and the strap, that dial is truly gorgeous. But when the action of the handwinder of citizen so smooth and not as loud it really impressed me.. Now for the fun part, since i relocated to thailand my research showed me that that the citizen if for $220 and readily available.. really thank you for the comparison..#subscribed
Found this video on the day after I bought my Kuroshio'64, very nice comparision! Here in Hong Kong the discounted price is about US$40 lower than the Seiko Presage basic model. I hesitated between the green and the beige dial, but indeed the green Kuroshio is not as brilliant as Seiko, but the beige one looks much better in real, with a texture like pressed Japanese Washi paper. I only know some Grand Seiko provides such kind of texture on their dials.
Awesome Intro!!! Luv the vid!!! In your opinion, how would the Seiko SARB035 compare to the Citizen NK-0001-17x (Cream Dial)? Great content.... keep em comin Josh!!!
Yes, I love a good showdown! Excellent presentation style with the side by side video. I also wanted the Citizen to win as well, but I agree with your scoring and would also keep the Mockingbird. One note Hardlex is theoretically slightly more scratch resistant than a regular mineral crystal.
Thanks for watching man! Glad you enjoyed the head to head! I hope to test out a hardlex vs a mineral crystal sometime soon on the channel! 😁 Stay tuned!
This was great, Josh. Do another in the future. I think the Seiko does pip Citizen in this match. However it’s really encouraging to see how well Citizen can be when going up against a bigger brand.
You should have taken into account the 'Limited Edition' feature of the Citizen watch. For an avid watch buyer, it would be advantageous to know that not many people would own the Kuroshio '64. For that reason alone, I would pick the Citizen. Also, I believe the Miyota Movement at 60 hour power reserve is better than the Seiko,. I hope you did not sell the Citizen, you will regret it.
History on that citizen is just too cool, presage is such a common piece now. Soon people will be shovelling them under their tires for traction in winter storms. And how often do you see an automatic citizen? Never. Can’t even get one through my AD.
Hahahaha love it. Just watched your reviews of these 2x separately, now I'm watching this one hoping for closure. This feels like the finale. Let's do it!
agree. i have a tissot navigator with the eta. winding is terrible. the bigger crown with that knurling on seiko makes all the difference for me. i'm guessing that the citizen is harder to wind cause the crown is just like the navigator, only smaller.
Love the showdown but agree the Seiko takes it ,having tried the green on bracelet very comfortable but do like the Citizen & background. I think availability of decent Citizen automatics is an issue in the west specifically the UK.
I agree that the Presage is better-ish BUT if I could only have 1 I'd want the citizen. The presage doesn't feel special even if it's better. But the the handset with the golden second hand is hard to resist 🙈
Hands down, Citizen. The Presage is a bit on the plain side. The Citizen however, has a more interesting dial, a great movement, better story IMO. I also think (even though they are similar in size) the Citizen looks smaller because the dial is narrower and the indices are large. I'd argue the case back is also more elegant with the limited edition engraving and the movement looks better without the large gold rotor. Personally, I connect with the Citizen story - something completely missed - it is based in history; Verses, the non descript Presage. There you have it.
@@TheTownWatch it was a good video my friend. I will add that maybe because of its uniqueness I might side for the citizen but overall I think the seiko looks better
You are clearly a Seiko fan; I knew from the start that you would rate Seiko higher. What I don't much like about Seiko is, you don't know where they are made, it can be Malasia, Singapore, Japan or China yet they all have Made in Japan stamped on them. Buy a Citizen and you know you will get an authentic Japanese watch; they make all their own parts in Japan.
Brilliant video, nicely done. I have a couple of Seiko presage watches in my collection, now want to have some variety. Really liked the Citizen watch here but as you correctly mentioned it is a bit large. Would you be able to recommend something similar but maybe with smaller dimensions especially lug to lug? Thanks.
The Seiko Presage green is so outstanding. The color and dial design is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen. It's going to be one of my first nice watches.
Citizen Nighthawk. Check out my video where I compare the original version to the newer version - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mdLELm2W-Lc.html
Citizen will win my heart if they give saphire, 50$ less price, same clasp as seiko , and longer second hand , though the case over than seiko with brushing on the side, bcause i ve seen people sell this pressage with scraches on the side case
Seiko charges way too much for their Presages to not have sapphire on them. I really wish the Citizen had a sapphire crystal. It would be a slam dunk to buy one.
This is crime. They could fix up the main drawback of Seiko's beautiful watch: mineral glass. Instead they also made mineral glass and we still do not have beautiful watch of this kind with sapphire
My vote goes to Orient Bambino 4th generation. They're elegant, cheap, and total strap monsters with all in house movements just like their Citizen/Seiko counterparts. Thanks Orient! 👋
Are there 1959 models for each color or just that many models? It’s not clear where somewhere on the lid they write ASIA instead of the watch number, somewhere ASIA and the watch number. Somewhere a yellow box, somewhere a white one! What does it mean? Fakes? Or do some markets/retailers have different designs?
I think it’s a very reasonable request! Most micro brands have sapphire at this same price point, not to mention many of the watches on AliExpress! Thanks for watching!
@@TheTownWatch You’re right, but these aren’t micro brands or aliexpress watches. They’re Seiko and Citizen. If you buy a junghans max bill and want to upgrade from domed mineral to sapphire, it costs like 300 euros. So I totally understand what you’re saying but the bigger brands won’t do it at this price.
@@cdav5552 It doesn’t make sense to me why they won’t though! Hopefully the micro brands who are using sapphire will provoke the mainstream brands to do the same at lower price points.
@@TheTownWatch I wish they would too, but can’t see it happening. Bigger brands have more overheads than micros so they generally can’t sell as cheaply. You’re also paying more for the brand name and the heritage. Just the way it is unfortunately.
Good intro and yes I agree they don't give sapphire glass even at this range😭...presage was clear winner and since citizen lost you probably wana give away 😂.
