My friend called me for my birthday 3 days ago and said he had a surprise for me...picked me up, took me to a watch store and bought me the Tissot. I had my eye on the Tissot for 2 years. What a gent.

Definitely both are great timepieces, with an amazing reputation, of course I love both. I think Tissot are such amazing pieces with really good functionality and a really luxury intended image, the Seiko are as good as Tissot but the Seiko watches are more focused on functionality as really diving tools than having a luxury image, but both are really amazing watches.

I have owned both of these. The Powermatic movement is way better than the Seiko 6r15. My Seastar was accurate to within a second a day and the 80 hour power reserve is amazing, but the bracelet is bad and nowhere near as good as the Seiko. Despite both being divers the look and feel is completely different on the wrist. I wish I had kept the Tissot and will likely get one again in the future, I still have the Seiko, it’s a good watch but nothing all that special about it. My Seiko has gained about a minute over this week, which is well within factory spec. The Powermatic movement is truly something special.

Luck of the Draw. Had 3 powermatics and all of them sucked..lost 25-45 per day after a year or two and oils dried up with horrible winding action. Had much better luck with Eta 2824/2836/2892/2895 which last forever and remained accurate for long time. My seiko Sarb with 6R15 is accurate 0-1 second for 6-7 years and had other seikos with 4R movement that run 0 beating some of my Tudors, Rlx,Breitling, etc

I am happy with Tissot. They have more premium feeling to them compared to Citizen watches. I am not sure how they compare to Seiko watches

One correction, the Seiko Prospex is not a diver's style, it's a certified diver's watch. I still prefer the Tissot, tho

I’ve recently reviewed the Tissot and I have a Seiko diver. They are hard to compare despite both being divers. They have very different feels. Both great, both a good value, just different. I vote both!

Then you might want to read up about Seiko and it's history of making mechanical watches in general and dive watches in particular. You are simply going by their perception in India and Indians aren't into watches

Received the green Tissot Seastar 1000 with Milanese strap last month from my beloved Wife for my 60th birthday, as she knows I love watches I can swim in all day (I have G-Shocks galore, a lovely old Rotary waterproof and a beautiful Bulova Precisionist, that has 300m water resistance, like the Tissot). The Tissot is just about the most perfect watch for the price paid. Stunning to look at, even better to wear. Have had total strangers commenting on how beautiful my watch is! The movement is undoubtedly world class and with 80 hours of reserve power - just amazing. Bloody love it!!

Seiko has a really beautiful blue dial version of this watch that is more beautiful than that Tissot Dial. It’s the SBDC065/SPB083 (for two different markets. That is the comparison that needs to be done. I have that watch, way more beautiful than the black version (though that’s nice as well). That being said, that Tissot is amazing for the price (I’ve seen it for $425). Great Swiss movement, ceramic bezel, beautiful dial, 300 meters, just a way better value than the Seiko in this particular comparison. May get this Tissot one day. A nice casual dive watch. But I just got my Seiko SBDC065 today, it’s insanely beautiful.

scott rand The blue version dial in the Seiko baby MM does not have Sapphire Crystal, which is a majour drawback.

What REALLY grinds my gears is the proportions on those round indexes on the Tissot, and the worst thing is the second hand that because of 'reasons', that round dot does not aligns to anything, it's just like, one milimeter or so from the tip, does not align to the center of those round indexes, nor the rectangular ones... There's a overall lack of proportions on the Tissot. The strongest point for me is the 80 hours reserve Powermatic movement, and the blue sunburst dial,.

I also noticed on the loom pip the actual pip is off center on mine I don't know if that is something that is typical for teso but it's one of those things once I saw it I couldn't see it and now every time I look at the watch I noticed the loom pip is off center not a huge deal maybe I'm being a baby but they do charge $1,000 for this watch at retail and these are simple things that they can get right. However I do also have the Seiko sbdc061 that has a very misaligned chapter ring 12:00 marker and that drives me absolutely not since a lot more noticeable I think that also is $1,000 watch I don't get it... I did buy both of these on the gray market for significantly less than $1,000 asking prices so that could be the reason why I'm not getting the best versions who knows...

Nice video. Both great models. In my opinion, the Tissot is more luxurious and that rubber strap gives it a "Yacht Master" vibe. For desk diving and bragging rights it's the winner. For actually diving the Seiko wins and let's face it, the over engineering by Seiko probably means they have the same WR. Having bought and sold many watches over the years I have come to the conclusion that I am only interested in 4 brands: Casio/G shock, Seiko, Swatch/Tissot and Rolex. Don't waste money or time (pun intended) with the other manufacturers.

This is your opinion and while it is same with mine,pwe I am interested in t Tissot, Seiko,and Casio/g shock ,together with Orient and citizen are the best for buck maybe. And Rolex give me the impression that they are excellent quality tools for top durability,long standing and performance. But really there are many brands that are good. Omega as said above but also many others with their traditions such as longines, breitlijg,tag Heuer.etc. and Tudor makes some of the best watches.

I have both watches. Tissot for me. Seiko is a great watch but horrible at time keeping, but wins out in lume but not by far. Tissot is by far imo a better build quality tho.

The seiko is available with a great blue dial, the spb083 :) And I prefer the dimensions of the seiko, but the place of the date is much better on the Tissot. And the movement is a good argument!

I watched your video dozen times. And i have no words, you pick up my favorite automatic watches. I have the same Tissot with rubber strap, and my wife started to be jalous on it. One suggestion, please make some video about Valjoux 7734 movement. Best regards

Display back is more if a new watch collector thing.mist experienced collectors do not give much attention to that. Both great watches.

@@innosanto in marketing it's what's known as a "value added" feature. It certainly is more appealing then the Seiko's wave back. It's not a big deal, but in most instances I'd prefer to have it than not have it and it's just one more point in the Tissot's favor.

I love Seiko, but the Tissot is just so much better value for me. For the price I can get the Seastar, I can’t get a Seiko with sapphire, and I’m lucky not to get the noticeably inferior 4R movement. I tend to find it priced between the Turtle and Sumo (both hardlex w/ metal bezel, one 4R, the other 6R), which are both great watches, but the Tissot is (at least technically) superior to both. Seiko’s noticeably superior lume, more legible bezel, with better action and better bracelet (Tissot’s isn’t bad, except for the clasp, which is awful) make them better functionality better Dive Watches, even on the cheaper models. However, Tissot’s thinner case, better movement, sapphire crystal and ceramic bezel at a lower price, all make it a better daily proposition for most people, particularly as a “desk diver”, especially as your only watch. I also find the Tissot classier, which I feel it helps it’s versatility, as I’d be willing to wear the Tissot with a suit (esp. on bracelet), but I’d never wear any Seiko diver with a suit (not even a GS). That being said, I can understand why some consider it boring compared to the Seiko’s.

Also the Tissot is cheaper than the seiko so really you can get the seastar and a SKX for the price of the 061 and that's not a bad little collection...

I have friends that Tech Dive that would prefer the 300 meter water resistance. Tech divers are a pretty rare breed. I recreational dive to a 40 meter limit so I don't care 200 or 300. Honestly, I dove for 30 years with a Seamaster 120 and it did fine.

The Seiko costs quite a bit more than the Tissot (which is not an ISO certified diver). Hard to decide on which as both are superb. However, the Tissot has a better movement with far more power reserve and probaby more accurate too. I'll just go for both then 😁

I have an older generation Tissot Seastar with eta 2824-2 with 38 hours power reserve, i have used it more than few times, then i noticed that i can wear that as dress watch. My opinon: Still a good tool watch. They are built to last. If i am to prefer something Japanese there is an Orient Star diver with ref no RK-AU0303B. Sorry but those Orient Star movements are better than Seiko's 6r15.

Actually, i think the Tissot SS bracelet is better made. The clasp however ls pressed unlike the Seiko. A shame really.

i love both of them but the seiko just looks like a rest of seiko from a chip version to the hight end one i think if the seiko srp21 coming with 6r15 and the same spec like sbdc61 i will put my money on the seiko but like this only Tissot wins everything Tissot looks better and also higher spec with a lower price

I have both of these. Lume, looks, heritage of this model, the Seiko. Tissot wins with power reserve, WR (as you say, doesn't matter beyond specs) and, kind of a toss up with looks because it adds exhibition case back and that fume dial. Good call that they've pretty even, which is why I got both, lol. Toss in the Raymond Weil Freelancer Diver for a third, slightly dressed up option. I have that one too, and each watch does its own thing very well. Good review.

The heritage, the specific nod to Seiko history, the finishing, Seiko lume of course, plus sapphire, DiaShield coating on case and bracelet, 50hr PR, full dive specs, looks and feels great to wear, it's a wonderful edition to any collection, excellent value for price, and a very different watch from the Tissot, meaning a good expansion of wear options.

@@WatchChris Already subscribed. I ended up getting the exact rubber strap model as shown in the video last year, however, been looking for a metal bracelet to swap out. Do you know any good third party stainless steel watch straps, that fit the 21MM lugs (a PAIN) lol?

I prefer the Seiko's looks, but the movement on the Seiko is shit compared to the one on the Tissot. The ETA 2824-2-based Powermatic 80 is far more accurate and has twice the power reserve.

Just ordered this watch same color on rubber, in blue, I have Seiko sbdc053 on silicon with a strapecode on it's way, wonderful watch, sapphire crystal, have also an SPDC069 Sumor with coral color, only slight negstive iis Hardlex crystal which is a minor eh. Never had a trouble . Ordered the Tissot on that color with the silicon strao which heard good, and not so great bracket so passed on going metal,,

I kinda want to get a shark mesh for it I think this watch would look killer on one... Problem is the 21mm lug width pain in the butt to find most straps or bracelets in that size....

Tissot almost every bit is better than Seiko, in my opinion. Except the lum. Bezel easy turn w much grids, #larger easy read (how many people fixated at one point to read their watch.Tissot movement just outstanding for the price,finish & accuracy. while Seiko has to hide.The case side finish ,crown guard all extra detail even the case locking back compare to SEIKO. So Seiko can price higher hoping people believe it cost more must be better.

Question asks, "better diver?" Meaning really underwater diving or desk diving? So what really matters, is simply the look that someone likes. As Chris states, "I'm not going diving with these watches." So, which one for the price would you purchase?

I’m very much interested in the Tissot based on the beauty of the watch & dial. I’m not using the watch for anything other than aesthetics. I think the bezel actually looks better with the faded numbering even tho I can see why as a tool watch this would be an issue. My question is.. is this watch worth the purchase from a quality perspective outside of the Lume or bezel visibility issues? The dial seems beautiful & unique. I just don’t want It to look or feel cheap. Any help?

Certainly, how is the build quality of the Tissot? Is this something you can rely on for shock resist or minor nicks that happen to it? Is this a piece that you can see standing the test of time?

@@ericwojo81 hey Eric as far as durability the Tissot is a watch that will last it has a sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel (which should keep the watch looking new for a very very long time) and a really tough Swiss made eta movement. It's truly an excellent watch for the money.

Yeah you barely notice the date window on the Tissot. Another way to say it is you can't read the date as easily on the Tissot. With my aging eyes , very important.

Hey I agree with that on the bezel because it's too shiny. The previous model had a Stainless Steel engraved bezel which was really nice should have carried that over. Hey display case backs won't break This watch has a sapphire case back so it's very very hard to scratch and almost impossible to shatter while on wrist. They do make a bracelet for the Tissot... But it's not that great... It's not horrible it's not as good as the Seiko... thanks for the comment and please don't forget to like and subscribe if you haven't. I love the seiko but I'd take the tissot. Seikos quality control is absolute garbage, their movements are mediocre, and their strategy of moving upmarket by doubling their prices without improving quality.. ..yeah....tissot all day

I had heard so much about seiko being durable and my wife gave me a monster for Xmas, it lasted 6 months im always working with my hands and I ride motorcycles alot and from being bumped around the stem lock Inside the movement broke and it had to go back to seiko for repair ,watch came back and 2 weeks later I scratched the crystal so bad cleaning my garage the watch isn't wearable wife got me this Tissot and it's held up with no issue I will never buy a seiko ever .

Why did you say the blue version of the 061 is the sbdc033?? Thats a totally different line, its the blumo ( blue sumo) the blue version of the sbdc061 is the sbdc065 i think... but you also have the sbdc053

The Tissot is beautiful. I had on black dial with red bevel. The Powematic 80 was extremely accurate, almost quartz accurate. The problems were absolutely no lume and the movement is NOT serviceable. Sold it.

I had this Tissot. I've also got an Apeks diver for £120. It has superior lume, better accuracy and zero bezel play. Crazy. Flipped the Tissot in the end. Pretty watch but a let down for the money.

Orient Ray II with Miltat bracelet... 210 total. Almost as good as my Bond Seamaster. Seriously. And 3 seconds a day on average... Amazing beater. Oh... And is take the Seiko all day. Tissot sounds like it should have a leg up but looks too shiny and just not serious as a tool watch. And it's not just the price point. Look at the $4000 Breitling Heritage II. Similar visual failures, cheap shiny look.. In my opinion.

I just grabbed this watch with the metal bracelet last week and I am blown away by it. The clasp would've been better served with a milled button clasp rather than a press clasp but at this price point. I am not going to cause a fight over that. As for the bezel and ceramic chapter ring colour, I do agree with you that it's a lot better than that standard Seastar 1000. It's also better in person than Tissot's official photography would suggest.

I prefer Tissot, always. But in this case much more Tissot. I can't understand about this glamour with the Seiko. Ceramic besel, powermatic 80, 300 meters versus 200 meter, case back window. So, I can't believe about this comparison. There is other Tissot models with stainless steel bracelet. Bad! So bad comparison.

The Tissot bracelet is inferior to the Seiko it is pressed metal and cheap when compared to the Seiko. Also the case finishing on the Tissot is inferior to the Seiko. The bezel on the Tissot is not good even if it's ceramic.... The Seiko has many advantages over the Tissot.

@@WatchChris You were lucky to get an aligned Seiko dial ;) Have had / have many Seikos and Tissots...6R15 / 4R35 variation is not even close to ETA, is such an unreliable movement, varies so much with position and it's a pain to regulate. I almost never needed to regulate an ETA. Seiko watches are so inconsistent with details and construction, you always have to send back/reorder to get a good copy. Tissot always flawless. And I would add in here also Seiko's "lost brother"...Orient...even they are consistent with alignment and construction, even easier to regulate than ETAs, and more accurate than Seiko. The only Seiko that I kept is the SARB, only one that worked pretty well because maybe it was a Japanese copy. Otherwise, SKX, SBD033, SNZG, SRPC, etc are all cheap and unreliable movements. SKX was atrocious in keeping time and died within a week LOL and SBDC033 took me 2 weeks to regulate and still wasn't accurate, up and down at its will. Only if you move higher now with the new Seikos - with 8L35 - maybe are a bit better, but they all are overpriced.

@@ericwojo81 the Seiko will get beat up faster BUT you can change the insert on the Seiko it would cost you about 100 bucks from seiko... The Tissot will last unless you have a bad impact...
