I love your video, because you showed all mistakes and difficulties in mod. Unlike other video, showing only perfect process, so the newbies get struck when they encounter all sorts of problem
Thank you for this vid - I particularly appreciate you showing the parts of the process that might cause delays or issues. That's realistic for those of us considering trying these mods. Watching someone who's done a lot of these is fun too, but it almost makes it look too easy.
I know I'm couple years later but I remove the bezel with a copper tool I made from copper pipe. Just hammer one end flat and sharpen with fine sandpaper, will never scratch stainless steel cause it's way softer metal. Also better that those metal tools sold on ebay. Anyways, hope this helps and I really enjoy watching your videos.
So much better than the original. I have mentioned it before, but you have excellent taste. I think you should design special editions for Seiko. People would buy them. I would.
Absolutely gorgeous! The new bezel is spot on! I was thinking the same thing about getting another SKX, mod it and have an original one aswell. Good job! You earned my subscription.
Wow. Well worth it, what a difference. The SKX is my favorite watch and probably for alot of people. I was going to say worth buying a second SKX but you mentioned that. Good job well done.
Hey Curt, looks great! A couple things. First, is there a crystal gasket? And second, when you're reinserting the crown/stem, you do not need to depress the stem lock lever in the movement. It should be able to be pushed in. I think you're choice of bezel, insert and crystal is spot-on.
@@derekr7814 absolutely renders the waterproofness to zilch .. my daughter bought a 007 with one fitted from a big seiko dealer ..long island watches ...it fogged up in a bathtub ... woooow was she dissapointed .. buy a watch with one as standard ..a swiss one even ,, i got steinharts ovm ..beats seiko hands down with all the bits on you have to buy because you have to swap out seiko lego watches .. buy a propper one or you risk them leaking .. seiko 007s are notorious for it when modded out
tom Hughes lol price to value the Seiko wins. It’s actually ISO rated. Whenever you open the case back or replace the crystal you have to pressure test it. Plus why is she wearing a watch in the bath tub? And I have both Ocean One ceramic and Seiko SKX. I wear the SKX more. At least the SKX is unique, not just another Submariner homage.
Well done!luv ur videos..i know the feeling especially when you are doing things for the 1st time after watching bunch of videos on how to do it..im thrilled everytime i watch lol...
Dope bro good job! I'm thinking of getting the same setup, I already have the double dome now for the coin edge bezel and the ocean insert! Thanks dude
That is a really sharp looking watch. You have great taste. I think the bezel change really made the difference. I want to do the double domed sapphire on mine but would like to find a 'Pepsi' colored ceramic bezel insert.
Thanks for making these videos. This mod looks fantastic! I'm going to try something similar, but with SKX171 dial and a Dr. Seikostain shark tower bezel for a fun twist. Maybe a Trident seconds hand too. Can't wait to try my hand at this!
I tried a similar method to remove the bezel on my omega seamaster professional automatic 300m in order to replace the faded blue insert. As the bezel came off the click spring fell out in two pieces. The bezel actually bent slightly which left me with a £600 repair job. This was a very annoying situation in which I ended up selling the watch as a repair needed item on eBay. All in all I wish that I had never ordered the new insert as it was not the right shade of blue and would have made the watch look fake. I had 17 years out of the watch so was not too upset to see it go.
I have purchased a Seiko SKX007 and it should be arriving tomorrow actually! I'm super excited for it and since I've discovered your videos about a month ago, I have made the decision to mod it; I want to preserve the original design and look of the watch as much as possible while upgrading the quality of it. I have found your videos to be very resourceful and helpful and think your mods look great! Have you had any experience with a flat ar coated sapphire crystal, and if so how does it compare aesthetically to the single Domed or double domed sapphire crystals? Does the blue ar reflection look better or more intense on one versus the others? I plan on replacing the crystal and replacing the bezel insert to a sapphire one. Thanks again!
funny got almost identical mods and tools and was just browsing youtube for pointers. some dude on ebay dr.seikostain has some sick parts. even has glass back cover for skx. i went with the flat sapphire just cuz im so nervous about it sticking out and getting scratched easy. would of loved to get a ceramic bezel insert but dam they want almost $50 for just the insert.nice work. im the same way im gonna need to watch myself and take it slow. im a machinist so not to worried just tend to get excited and hurry. new sub btw. nice work!
Hey man, nicely done! Just wondering, what is the height/thickness of the case now with this new bezel? Maybe 1mm less than stock? I've always had an issue with the thickness of SKXs
You can get micro double sided, sticky pads to secure the chapter rings,If the come with no Key to fit the slot at 12 O"clock.. Dagaz supply them.. I know when your regular 007 comes .You will mod that one as well ...Lol.. Addictive...
Cool video Sir. Would love to have a go at this. But worried I'd end up with a watch in lots of pieces and no idea how to get it back together! Ah well, might give it a go. What could go wrong...
sorry what was the significant difference of the new bezel? i am actually in the middle of shopping parts of my skx, chose the bezel insert, then im confused if i needed to change the bezel as well
Great videos: I am new to watch collecting, I bought a seiko SNK 809. Question : do you ever let the watch wind down? Do I need to keep it running all the time? So say the oils dry up if not running for a month or so. What do you recommend. Thanks, great job on your work and knowledge.
I really like it! Im building a very similar one, except with polished aluminum chapter ring, and still waiting on my snowflake hands and black bay dial from dagaz!
Three months ago, this watch would have been toast. I read a lot of stuff, watched a variety of videos and took my time with the actual modding. Doing other watches first sure did help. That would be my advice if you want to mod yours! Thanks, Austin!
I wish you'd mention what exact cristal model you use and what bezel so I could modify one just like yours it's stunning. I guess this is your secret recipe ! Thanks for the video !
Nice video, I am looking to do a dome mod on the snk805. When using the press on a dome crystal, does it need a different piece to press the domed crystal or does it no matter? I notice you did a light press and turn and press again. Also for doing a dome sapphire for the snk805, where is the best place to get the crystal and ensure I order the right size?
Wow this looks beautiful. I always flip my skx007's. There's one incoming. One question about the new bezel+insert, I've never modded a watch, never opened or whatsoever. So whenever I wanna put a new bezel with insert on my watch, I can put the insert just randomly right ? I don't need to align it whatsoever because once it's installed I can just turn the bezel so it's ''aligned'' ? Is this correct ? Thanks and amazing mod !
Great video! Did you need to use the retainer ring with the new crystal that came out with the old crystal? And how has the water resistance held up since the mod?
because there is no law that requires you to speak english. Not to mention that this is the internet. He doesn't need to be from the west to watch it, fuck face.
jim LEHMN nope. To remove sumo bezel turn the.bezel so the triangle points too rhe 9 ocloxk poaition, than u will notice a very minimal notch at the 6 oclock pos. Pop in a mini screw sriver and pry it up and off. It can be VERY tight.
