The Citizen has a quartz version with Eco-Drive and cheaper than the automatic. I like the size and build quality of the Citizen better than the Seiko, but it is a more tool-ish look. Seiko is more versatile, although more top-heavy and clunky for my taste. Now these have gone up in price, so it's a good investment. I also have a 6.5 inch wrist and an thinking about getting the Citizen Promaster automatic. For me 6.5 inch would go better with the SKX 013 (38mm versions) but would love to try it first. I would keep both! I think both are collectables! Take care of them and enjoy! Cheers!
Citizen is great, but I've sold all my NYs and kept my SKX. There's just something about Seiko and the SKX. I love Seiko divers over everything else, can't help it 😄
Both are great. I do prefer wearing the NY0040 slightly more than the SKX. Probably because the SKX is a bit more chunky. Also the 20mm lug on the Citizen is better than the 22mm on the SKX.
I have the Skx007P9 and it's a permanent part of my collection. I've considered buying the Citizen numerous times but saw a comment one time about the "men's underwear" 12 o'clock marker on the Ny0040 and just can't unsee it...
People are saying it, but honestly, it never reminds me of an underwear. If I hadn't heard it, it'd probably have never even crossed my mind. It actually reminds me of a very stylish "Y". I love it!
@@engineercave007 I do think it's a great piece for sure, with heritage, and is most certainly on par or even exceeds the Skx in a few ways. Watch collecting is very obsessive for me and it's also an emotionally driven hobby. A silly remark, such as the one previously mentioned, is sometimes one of those things that I can't unhear or unsee, it gets stuck in my mind. That being said... I would buy the Marina Nationale version of this watch in a heartbeat! My intent wasn't to be divisive but to make a humorous observation. These are still available at good prices and I may very well get one at some point to make my own comparison with the Skx. Thanks for your great review!
TOYOTA LANDCRUISER vs NISSAN ARMADA/PATROL. COCACOLA vs. PEPSI. NIKON vs. CANON. These two watches are both iconic and simultaneously rich in history. To richly appreciate them one should own them both. The CITIZEN NY0040 is understated yet it packs a lot of power making it a legitimate contender to the legendary SEIKO SKX. In the history of horology there is no watch that has the highest cult following like the SKX. Ebay, Amazon and countless other platforms are inundated with aftermarket parts for the SKX but only a handful of the NY0040. It's also highly modded watch and for a good reason. Companies just to name a few YOBOKIES, CRYSTAL TIMES etc etc all exist because of the popularity of the SKX. SEIKO SKX is the GOD FATHER. No if about it!
Well put. I think the SKX is such a legend, because it has a ton of after market parts and a hugh modding market. The military history makes the NY0040 just as much of a legend, but ut doesn't have the popularity and modding market the SKX has.
@@engineercave007 The Military history of the NY0040 gives it provenance and not popularity and prestige like the SKX. By your LOGIC, they are Countless of WATCHES that were commission by the US GOVT. for the American troops including TIMEX and in spite of their respective historic provenance they are not desirable like the SKX. Matter of Factly, returning American Soldiers or GI's from Vietnam are the one's who put SEIKO DIVERS on the map with the SEIKO TURTLE 6105. Prior to that SEIKO was unheard of here in US. To fully understand the understated charm and beauty of the SKX one has to understand the Japanese concept of WABI SABI.
@@oscarosullivan4513 the fit of the chapter ring on the 6309 and the following diver, the 7002 were a far superior design that pretty much ensured the alignment was always accurate. The SKX chapter ring design changed and so the alignment issues began. In my opinion with my limited experience repairing watches, the 6309 used a lot of Swiss manufacturing and assembly techniques. The 7002 movement you can begin to see some cost cutting. Then with the 7S26 it was really cheaply made. The SKX was the most affordable diver’s watch for a reason, and now the prices are crazy for no reason.
