Thanks you for this song. I am black girl who is born in Denmark, I have been blessed with visiting west Africa several times, and I miss the love I get there so much. This song made me cry because it explains my feelings so well in a very beautiful way. Much love.
First time I heard this cried when she sang "the way you smile when you believe in your future..is different". Powerful. Love every word of this song and her voice.
Ms Sey, you have revealed to yourself one of the major keys of spiritual happiness! When life gets tough, STAND STILL, BREATHE and KNOW YOUR OWN SELF WORTH and you will never fail or fear. Congratulations!
This makes me both really happy and teary eye (in a odd, unexpected, sad way). When she released the 1min video I was so frustrated. The complete song is just... I have no words. And the video. Dear God, the video. Blessed be her soul.
I relate to this song as one of finding a place where you belong, where you don't feel obligated to explain why you're worth something to the world; people will just know.
For me this song is about being a black woman in a world that doesn't give us the credit we deserve, and being able to find yourself and know your worth anyways.
Seinabo Sey is actually half Swedish and half Gambian! All of you people that keep thinking it's all about being black it might not be? It's very common here in Sweden to be mixed nationality and all you Americans stop using the word black and race. For me I don't see people as colour or race but more as how interesting it is with mixed nationality❤️
Just to keep it real....What you just mentioned is a cultural thing. It's very common to be ethnically/racially mixed in the United States as well. Almost every person who identifies as being African American or Black isn't completely of African descent. For instance, I identify as Black American even though technically speaking my African heritage only comprises 60% of my DNA. There is a notion called the one drop rule...that wasn't created by black americans at all and is something that we still live with today. Race is part of the backbone of America. The only person who knows what this song is about is the person who wrote it. That is the beauty of music, the listener may interpret what they want to.
I think the song is about being a black person in Sweden. I didn't get it until I saw the video which is shoot in Gambia. And she sings that she loves it here because she doesn't have to face negativity like she does at home. Love Seinaibo Sey by the way, she's a queen
Her words are so poetic and brings assurance to your soul. loving every word. one line in this songs says so much. "nothing can be loved into something".... wow. " Nothing is such a beautiful word"....
The moment I heard this song I knew this song was created for gorgeous melanated brown skin people 🤎 Such a timeless, angelic and beautiful song. Thank you!

Man, this song brought tears to my eyes. As I'm traveling the world for a year, so much of it is about getting away from the hate directed at black people in the US. Her words are so poignant for women of color in America right now.
