I wouldn't be fair if I did not state that the professor Dirk Bundy literally changed my life. Since his prestressed concrete classes, I'm also refusing to wallow in my filth! Thank you so much!
I ,from ethiopia ,appreciate your lecture video on sesemic analysis and express my heart felt gratitude for presenting such wonderful opportunity on you tube.stay shining
This series is a treasure! Love the character and personality you're bringing to this. Thanks so much for sharing. Let's not let the robots take over, time for hand calcs!
Hey Dirk thanks for having these lectures online. I was one of your students in ARCE/CE. Really enjoyed my time their. Please keep teaching and uploading videos online for industry continuing education!
Sir, you are a hero! Thank you for sharing the story and thank you for helping us become better engineers through your videos. Anyway, we can help your cause?
Thank you sir. After watching prestressed concrete videos i was eagerly waiting for your lecture in some other topics. Luckily again i got opportunity to learn frm u. Thank you .
Sir , you mentioned there is a book at first of the lecture, what is the title of the book used for concrete steel buildings, how can I get it , appreciate your efforts, regards.
Hello sir, i wanna ask u if we've 2 stories how does they affect on each other for base shear , it'll increase, decrease ,stay as it is (no effect), plz with Evidences !?
Sir, is it possible that my frames are attracting more than the total base shear.. My moment frames attracts 130% of the base shear based on my ETABS analysis..
I'm not sure I'm following the question. In the US we are not allowed to have the non-seismic columns take any portion of the seismic base shear. 100% must go to the shearwalls. We insure that a number of ways, for example by pinning the end of each column in the mode. If you have a dual frame and shearwall system, I believe that the code says that you must design the moment frame system for a minimum of 25% of the base shear, regardless of what it attracts.
@@dirkbondy4231 thanks..how about in response spectrum, do i still need to satisfy these (25/75) because it might affect the scaling of static over dynamic shears. How should I do it?
Thank you sir very informative. What do you think about seismic analysis using computer software like Etabs, Sap2000, Staad Pro, RSA sofwares? Are they helpful? What is your recommendation to Praticing engineers out there on field? Hand calculation is better of Computer software?
Hi Obed, I'm a big fan of computer software in our practice. We use ETABS, but I think the ones you mentioned all do the same thing. What I'm not a fan of though, is people using software that they don't understand. That's why, in my personal opinion, students should at least have a very good understanding of two-dimensional response spectrum and modal analysis concepts, as well as rigid diaphragm force distribution with direct and rotational forces. And a good understanding of non-linear pushover analyses. That's what I cover in these videos.
Wow Thank you sir. Keep Teaching. I am interrested to know more on this topics on Dynamic Analysis. Keep Teaching, Keep Talking, Keep Sharing. Good Luck Sir
No. Seismic loads are developed using the ASCE 7 Code. Concrete seismic members would then be designed using those loads in accordance with the ACI Code, but this series focuses on the development of the seismic loads and not the design of the members.
Unfortunately, we have been too busy with new projects to complete the book. However, if you email me at Dirk@SenecaStructural.com I will provide a PDF of the current progress.
