I literally just beat him about 10 mins ago. Kept distance and worked him first 2 and used only 2 fire crackers at the end of 2nd phase to kill him quick. 3rd phase kept a distance to force him into the lightning move and that was over in 30 secs. All together 30-40 tries

Found this video searching for Genichiro tips. Been looking at vids on this subject for 2 days. Just wanted to let you know I think yours is the best I found. In depth explanation starting at how to get the skills required all the way through to an in depth explanation of how to win with those skills. You have a new subscriber in Southeast Texas. Worked a 12 hour shift today and then came home. I only play about 60-90 minutes after I get home after 12 hour shifts so I knew time was limited. First attempt was sloppy and didn’t go well. Second attempt I started sloppy and used 4 healing gourds before taking his first health bar out. Almost quit out to try again but decided to press on for the practice. Used 2 healing gourds while taking his second life bar out as I screwed up and forgot to switch to shadow rush right after the first health bar was gone and paid the price in lost health trying to change during an inopportune time. Got to lightning dude and used 1 health gourd pretty quickly due to dodging lightning instead of jumping up and shooting it back at him. Rest of the lightning phase went pretty flawless and took him down. I yelled “HELL YEAH” in the house and then the wife yelled at me for yelling but I didn’t care because Genichiro was down. HUGE thanks again for the great video! I’m sure I will need more help soon so I will be back!

Well done on not giving up at the last hurdle, ive had plenty of those "HELL YEAH" moments myself making everyone around me jump loool, it just cant be helped with this game! I used Ichimonji Double for the first two phases of Genichiro, then when I started the third phase when I switched to Shadow Rush and kicked his ass. Your video was great….it took me about 6 tries, but I finally did it…thank you so much!

Just wanted to leave a "Thanks" for this video. I was stuck with Genichero for over 200 attempts. Not that I was not able to read his moves, but I always got hit because of greed / or being over aggressive. This method starts slow, but surely very safe and bound to succeed. I was able to use this method and practicing a couple attempts, was able to succeed. The beauty of this method is that it limits Genichiro moves, and he is almost left to the grab attack which can be beautifully punished with 1 ichimonji and then double consecutively. Single best resource to beat his first 2 phases. Third phase is relatively easy with baiting his jump mikiri and lightning.

I tried so many vids and strategies, but after watching your guide vid and learning about the Ichimonji: Double? It was a MASSIVE improvement. I only needed 1 or 2 tries to beat him and I took him DOWN! Thank you SOOOO much!

The most thorough guide I’ve seen so far. After watching this I think I’m ready to kick his ass. Think my problem was I wasn’t being patient. I just ran in and attacked, I was using the Ichimonji 2x but was being hasty. You just got a new sub

You nailed it right on the head there man, patience is definitely the key of when to attack and when not to attack. The battle may take a little longer, but you'll increase your chances of success and reduce incoming damage, which really stacks up. GamerGrade spent an hour perfecting his first two health bars without using my healing gourd. The problem was the 3rd phase. I’d get nervous and he’d just wreck me. I figured he was just the same just less armour and lightning plus that lunge attack is also a weakness. I went to bed and clapped his cheeks first try today. Was relieved and nervous all in one, not even bother watching the cutscene, just skipped it so I could save. I’m guessing he’s like Sigrun from God of war. I’ll be back to your guide when I’m at swordsaint.... Ashina

Awesome job man, i knew it wouldn't be long before you reported the win! Sometimes you just need to come away, rest, process all those tactics, then jump back in refreshed, then BOOM! Its one of those games that takes several tries, but when it clicks, its a stellar feeling. Unfortunately i didn't find time to cover all bosses, such as Isshin, but i have no doubt you will triumph! You reminded me that dodging is an option, now I can get to his 3rd phase with 5 heals and 2 resurrections , by dodging so many of his attacks,every other video I watched just kept saying to deflect deflect deflect. Sadly I cant get the double move because I've already spent so much xp, grinding 1 level now takes 2.5 hours of work. Thanks again!

You do realize you can stealth kill the rats without wasting spirit emblems on the axe, right? You only need to break their hats if you've already alerted them and are facing them in combat.

fuckin thanks bro, after watching 20 videos of shadow rush vids, or slash, dodge, slash, dodge repeat vids dying over 100 times in 5 hours or more, wasting over 500 spirit emblems ichimongi was the key! didnt even need to use 1 emblem. i beat it before but new game plus without kuro charm was way harder than 1st game for me. all i had to do was keep jumping and air ichimongi double bonkin his melon lmao thx

Yeah It definitely seems that way first several tries but learn the attack patterns step by step and trust me, he will start becoming much easier. Dont give up!

You don't have to face him that early though , you are able to progress alil bit to help get ready for this battle , when I first fought him I had 4 prayer necklace's- vitality 14 ,attack power 3, 7 healing gourds , farmed alil so I also had most skills unlocked and about half of the prosthetic tools pretty much leveled up all the way (well to the 2nd highest they'd go) anyway all that shit adds up an makes a difference

Its because you havent learned his patterns yet and become confident with knowing when to react with the proper counters in good time. Practice is the only way to fix this. How many times have you tried, and can you reach stage 2 yet?

Holy crap! NOTHING I DO IS WORKING AGAINST THIS GUY! I can never get the Mikiri Counter in-time! 2 days and about 7 hours in already and still can't even get one life off of this guy! WTH!!!! I think i have to restart playing the game so I can buy the right skills. I spent alot of money on stuff that is irrelevant now. Unless I go and just kill guys the already completed levels to gain the hit points and then buy it.

Keep in mind that Genichiro has three different danger attacks and you'll have to recognize the animation tells that telegraph each one. Only the thrust can be countered by mikiri. Also although you see videos of people deflecting the jump up high slash, I recommend just jumping out of the way.

I think I figured the pausing thing out ,you can't pause the game if your jumping or falling or if your standing to close to an enemy ,against genichiro id just run to the other side and could pause it everytime

Well the skills are definitely helpful, however, depending on your skill level, i have seen players defeat him with minimal HP and skills.

Finally getting around to this game after all these years and having trouble with Genichiro lmao. Great guide but does need a lot of farming to get all the recommended skills, esp if you want shadowrush+ichimonji double.

you are incredibly accurate and good. But it's really too complicated. If one needs a guide to beat a boss, you can't suggest being able to recognize and react to 4 different unblockable attacks in 4 different ways. If I could do it, I would already beat him without a guide :-)

Yeah Genichiro is one of the tougher more troublesome bosses with increasingly tricky stages, hence the reason the video is complex. However, if you break it down into bite sized chunks, and process in small steps, its not so bad if you take your time and practice. I wish you luck bro, thanks for the feedback! 👊
