1 more to go till the series is complete. As always here's a NG run which featured Divine Confetti usage and didn't even utilize the ridiculous amount of Umbrella abuse I showcased here, it's also important to mention you should ideally focus on either confetti or umbrella attacks as the Projected Force follow up attack I do with the Umbrella will "eat" the divine confetti buff: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-e5vzZURu7vI.htmlm21s
FightinCowboy wanted to let you know I found your vids around (I believe) DS2 era and your content has always been helpful & entertaining to watch . I genuinely look forward to these walkthroughs/guides. Enough ass kissing lol just wanted to pass along my praise brother. Top tier, Keep it up
Thank you for this guide. Because of these pointers I was able to read all of its moves(despite all the deaths) and defeat it with only one life(again despite all the deaths). Now to face the the main course. Again thank you.
After defeating genichiro for the first the game became more suddely easy for me. I'm not joking I'm sharing my experience. Yes I may have died to a boss 59 times. Especially gaurdian ape. But I usually restart the whole to become more prepared with a mindset. Trust me, I didn't cheese any boss. I mamange to use my deflects and study the attacks of my opponents. Gaurdian ape was actually easy to understand after restarting my play through and even manage to not die in the two ape boss fight for the first time. (Okay may be not first time but on a different play though.) Also I've been using my prosthetic rarely in most fights. Usualy the chase and slice is good on bosses that dodges back. Nightjar slash as Well. By coughing top is my favorite. I have yet to try the lazulite weapons yet. To this day. I had this game since 3 months ago. Its just I never had time for it when I feel like it.
I died about 10 times but about 3 times after I watched this I finally beat him. I had to take your advice and start circling around the right and not the left. My heart was pounding in my chest but phase 3 I stunned him with the malcontent, beat him down and got his posture so high he only needed a handful more hits. Of course that's when I was about 2 hits from my own death with no resurrections. Thanks for these videos, they've been a big help to me for the better part of 4 years now.
that feeling when the boss' health bar is completely empty and you still have grouds and you can play it safe, but you get greedy to kill him instantly and instead get killed in half a second
that feeling when the boss' health bar is completely empty and you still have grouds and you can play it safe, but you get greedy to kill him instantly and instead get killed in half a second
Late to the party but i just finished my first run of Sekiro and i gotta say: Fuck this boss. I died to Ishin for like 3 hours and i had so much fun in every single attempt at killing him. Why? Because Ishin is so connected to all the mechanics the game taught you through the journey. Demon of Hatred goes AGAINST everything the game is about and i utterly ignored him after 2 hours of torture. Not a fun fight for me.
Trying to fight him right now on my first play through and as mush as I agree with you about the boss design I do like that they made him easy to hit but that stagger bar doesn’t do much when you’ll probably get his health bar down first he is annoying tho I can help but get hit but some of those attacks
Bros first play through I cheesed him with the watch tower but second playthrough I wanted to be true to myself so I watched this very helpful video and beat him just now it was tough but now I can say I actually beat him right
Jesus I took your advice. I was in the last round and he was a quarter way there however I didn't count my spirit emblems so I didn't have enough to get the 3rd whistle. I stabbed myself one last time and made a gamble for some extra spirit emblems. It worked however I was in low health. And he killed me. I revived. I'm out of healing items so I used everything. Fine snow, divine grass, juzo statue, pellets and by the smallest of health in my dark souls career I beat him.
I'm aware there's a "cheese" where you can get the model to fall off the map and TBH I would expect them to patch that. Stuff like the Dragonrider in DS2 falling off the map is one thing, it's pretty clear it's not intended for one of the hardest bosses in the game to just fall off the map. If you're that thirsty for a trophy be my guest, but I'd suggest gitting gud as always.
I mean IMO the umbrella and malcontent are already a light form of cheese. He's scary, yes, but he's not at all impossible to beat with just your trusty sword and a good dosage of reading the enemy's patterns and punishing when you have an opening.
The malcontent stagger lasts waaaaay longer. Dont get anxious if you see him move, you can literally get him to 25% health if you time the whistles better and use the full stagger window.
Yes, I found this to be the case too. I usually got him down to 25% and when he does the spinning flame attack in Phase 3 I just round far away out of the ring of fire.
James Sigmund I've beaten him since without using the whistle. But I would get the stun every time but then I would hit him like 2 times and he would do the stagger animation and no longer be stunned
Thanks man, the first time I ever got him to phase three I beat him because of your tip. I got him to 25% health and just used the umbrella for the rest.
Worth noting that he doesn't mention you need a certain shinobi skill to attack with the umbrella, and it's a big bit of damage missing without this. The skill is "projected force" and unlocked in the Shinobi skill tree.
@@TequilaGundam he's not the only one. I got screwed by the bosses so many times and lost so much exp, just bcuz I wanted to keep it for better skills. now I'm at the end of the game and found an amazing exp farm at Ashina outskirts and at last I'm getting those skills
When I finally did beat this boss, I found that parrying his combos actually did work better for me than trying to dodge. But that was probably because of the endless times I’d seen them before dying.
@@MrBlitzpunk his physical attacks like stomps and most of his close-range swings dont give you burn buildup if you dont take the damage from what I recall. If you avoid that long arm slam and his long range moves, burn isnt that much of an issue in this fight.
I'm late for this but the boss is intended for dodging play style, they intentionally put souls boss into sekiro mechanic (yes to murder us, thank you Miyazaki) If DoH was souls boss I bet it'd be probably easy boss
This, oh my god, this. Nothing else was working, he was too strong, but parrying the stomps alone and not having to worry about moving out of the way was what got me there. Took two tries after that (still using malcontent, suzaku, and well timed Ako sugars)
@@VSN-wb2ly the boss is a prosthetic check. Suzaku's Lotus umbrella make you immune to all but his sweep attacks, which you can simply jump over. The deflect and counter also do more posture damage than the sword, so you are able to break his posture using the prosthetic much faster than hacking away at his health bar. The Malcontent whistle also stuns him for ages up to 3 times, giving you plenty of time to heal, buff and/or use the tanto. If you didn't know already; these are also techniques you can use on other enemies to make short work of them, mainly the demon's who are trivialised with the Malcontent and the Phoenix's Lilac umbrella. Umbrella's can also parry beast/giant enemies grab attacks and block projectiles. The DoH also has grapple mechanics similar to several beast enemies and bosses like the Headless Ape. Essentially this boss is a giant demon beast, and shares all their weaknesses. Ironically, he is also the one who gave you the prosthetics in the first place. You can fight him like you're playing Dark Souls, but it's much easier if you fight him like you're playing Sekiro and use your ninja weapons lol.
Just some clarification on the stagger. It doesn't come from hitting his head or countering his slam. It comes from dealing a certain amount of damage. Once his health reaches a certain point he will stagger. It's guaranteed to happen twice for each of his health bars.
I know this is 3 years old but you walkthroughs and git gud guides have helped me tremendously with my soulsborne/fromsoft games. I was able to beat Demon of Hatred in like 10 tries thanks to your tips🤘🤘
Just wanted to add a tip. Use the ceremonial tanto and then pop a pellet before you even enter the fight. Then you can do the same after his first phase while he is buffing(get far away first). There is no risk of getting hit both times and the pellet will refill your health before there is any chance. This saves gourds for chaotic moments and should give you enough emblems to use your umbrella and malcontent plenty of times. Thanks for all the great content cowboy!
I can't stress enough who much help the walk-trough and your Git Gud Guide was! You made a very hard game more enjoyable. I think this was your best complete series of a game, till now! Thank you very much,Texas Cowboy.
Just a tip, if you're good at parrying then it actually does a lot for this boss. If you do it perfectly he brings his head down for a slash that can stun him
@@JakeFish5058 honestly i hate this boss so much, i just cant beat him consistently. Id say he is the main obstacle for me to beat the last gountlet. More than inner isshin and inner owl.
Your guide gave me the edge I needed. I got to phase 3 a few times and I had malcontent and the umbrella already helping me, but I was getting there with too few healing items left. Your advice to stick to his left leg rather than his right, to ride out the power bomb with the umbrella, and to jump the post-charge Fire wave rather than use the umbrella got me over this hurdle. Thanks for the guidance, it totally helped!
Same same! Only difference is thst laurence has a small arena and you have limited stamina. That is the only boss that i couldnt kill on my own. Fuck that
Awesome git gud guide! I’m really sure I wasn’t the only one struggling to defeat this boss. Just a tiny little addition to your tips here, I found that we can safely use blocks/guards against the demon’s foot stomps (either his left or right foot stomp). It is quite a safe alternative in case if you’re not too confident with your dodge timing to avoid the stomps since most of the time you’re still focused on attacking. Hopefully this helps a little.
Of all the strats I looked at for this battle, yours was of great assistance. After almost two hours, finally took down that big fiery bastard...with no dragonrot lol. Now onward to who a lot of ppl say it's the toughest boss in the game...sigh. Thanks for your videos.
Your videos are the nicest and most calm resource for beating bosses. I love how measured you are. It helps me avoid being a spazz and getting flustered!
These guides have been great, Im on NG+3 but I have picked up so many tips from these videos which have made the bosses over the last few days way easier. Good work Cowboy!
I finally beat him today smh. Your guide helped me a lot. Honestly, when that final deathblow symbol popped up, I couldn’t believe I had done it. This has definitely been THE hardest boss in the entire game thus far. I don’t see how Isshin could be harder than this. Demon of Hatred was just TOO MUCH. It took me all my gourds, fine snow, regular rice AND a divine grass. I had a jizo statue but for some reason it wouldn’t let me use it. I think it’s glitched bc I tried when my resurrections were blacked out and after I took the black stripe off. Still wouldn’t let me get my third circle back. I had to tough it out. I had no resurrections left when I beat him, so I got him outta there by an inch of my life lol. I’m so relieved now. Thanks for your guide, Cowboy. You’ve gotten me through this game time n time again. Now, only Isshin stands in my way of me officially finishing the entire game. Wish me luck!
@@EddieFreak If u beat the demon of hatred, u can beat Isshin. Although I did find Isshin to be harder. But still, if you can get past the D.O.H, u can finish the game.
@@EddieFreak Ishin seems really hard at first, but really it's all about learning how to perry his regular attacks and using the Mikiri Counter and jumping over him for the unstoppable attacks. It takes a few tries to recognize his attack patterns but once you do its a lot less intimidating and a lot easier :-)
@@alexdudemeister after beating DoH i went back and beat him on my fourth try! He was not as hard as I thought he was when i first tried... Plus after beating the demon i felt like i could beat anything. I had a much harder time with him than Isshin
Isshin is easy once you learn his combos The thing is, it takes some time to learn all of them. For me, it was much easier to learn Demon of Hatred combos then Isshin's, and also find it easier then Glock Saint. But everyone has problems with different bosses. And tbh I love Isshin's fight after I learned his attacks, it's everything that I wanted from a samurai fight in a game.
This is the first FromSoft boss that I had to go and look up guide for how to beat. Guess what makes it the hardest is because it pretty much throws away every single Sekiro fight mechanic out the window. It is like a "Souls" boss, but without the "Souls" mechanic to beat it.
@@VSN-wb2ly When I first played Dark Souls 3, the speed at which enemies and bosses moved also felt very reminiscent of the faster parts of Bloodborne to me. I wasn't a huge fan of that, but it seems to be the go-to for them whenever they find something new they want to keep in their games.
@@justsomejojo I understand that but seeking sekiro mechanic into another game without it's complement parts is a bad strategy, it's make sense in DS3 to borrow some of the Bloodborne bosses because DS3 is faster than DS2 and those two games between DS3 and BB aren't very far away mechanically. But sekiro is super super different than any from software game, you need pure skill to beat bosses in sekiro which complemented well by the game mechanics, but using elden ring slow dodge mechanic into fast paced action game such as sekiro is sucks.
@@VSN-wb2ly oh yeah. I was agreeing with you. I largely dislike the more Sekiro-esque bosses in Elden Ring. For a long time, I wasn't even aware that Elden Ring bosses had a posture bar akin to Sekiro because it's invisible and because the more limited moveset of ER/DS characters doesn't lend itself as well to aggression, much less continuous parrying. For the more soulsian bosses in Sekiro, it's always a bit jarring as well, to suddenly have to start dodging, but because there's no stamina, at least it's a less painful adaptation.
When I defeated him, I basically stayed close to him and tried to get behind him. Getting behind him gives you a lot of time windows to pull out the mortal blade and deal a huge amount of damage. And, always running! :D
Thank you so much! I cheesed him before with the intentions of trying to do it legit. You made an extremely hard boss, extremely manageable and only took me an hour! Much love
Got him finally. Thanks for the guide. Since I used the Umbrella one too many times I had to save it and not use the ring three times. One thing I learnt is sometimes it’s just best to be out of the fire circle in the third phase. Getting the timing right on swinging in when he slams the fire on the ground is key to save up on emblems too. Excellent video. I really liked this boss. My favorite part was when I saw he had 30% health left on third phase and suddenly I got the red bubble. I then realized his posture whittles down faster in third phase.
Also don’t skip this boss or cheese him. Play him for the fun of it. This I believe his FromSoftware experimenting Sekiro fighting style with a Soulsborne boss. I fought him with a mindset of freeing an old friend from torment so every time I lost, I didn’t get frustrated.
Worst boss was for me Emma + Isshin. Demon of Hatred is actually pretty easy. You just need to change your mindset to reacting. It took me a bit, but once I changed my mindset, the boss became pretty easy.
@@dougsworld7533 This attack is nuts anyway. It took me a while to get the timing for jumping over it. I really had to adjust my fighting style from acting in a fight to just reacting. After that it was easy for me to jump over his charging attack and avoid all other attacks. In the attempt, where I finally killed him, I only used to 3 healing gourds.
Lazulite Sacred flame item description: "The sacred Lapis Lazuli fires are divine. Cleanse the deep-seated hatred with flame." You tried this one yet Cowboy?
Well, I tried it once, it did massive damage. My proposal: use malcontent, then regular r2, then light your sword up with living force and go nuts with spiral cloud passage. Should get him to 0 hp in three whistles.
I finally just beat the Demon using this. Thank you so much for doing these. This is my first time playing Sekiro (and first From Software game) and if it wasn't for these git gud guides and your walk through (which I am also following... it is a MUST!) I would've probably quit after the sword guy in the dojo. I know I'm about a year and a half late, but thank you FightinCowboy!
Nononono DON'T dodge the footstomps - deflect instead because its hitbox is SUPER wide. Also, if you're like me who can't dodge his close-range fire whip, either get behind him, use the brella, or try to deflect it at the cost of minor burn damage. Generally you want to be positioned to the left. Go left. Go left.
Just another black & white mickey Mouse same here. Going left gets you bitch stomped every damn time, sprinting right in close proximity to him keeps you clear of most everything
Personally, I found that deflecting his hits made it a much easier time for me to progress through his first two phases. However, your deflections will have to be on point because the attacks he does wit his arm do a pretty decent amount of chip damage and his stomps do A LOT of vitality damage if not deflected correctly. When I tried dodging in the first two phases (which I'm awful at) I literally went through all 10 of my gourds but when I was deflecting, I found myself using gourds a lot less often. Also, the tip about getting under him while he does that big slam attack and then hitting him with the umbrella was super helpful. And don't forget (like I did) that if you have the withered red gourd you can use that to decrease fire build-up. But overall, fantastic guide.
You are the man, got this down on my 4th attempt just by being able to see you discuss this jerks move sets. This is the first Fromsoft game I will actually be completing, no small part due to your guides / commentary, keep up the great work!
I played this game like a year ago and my controller actually broke because this boss required so much button spam. I never removed the game from my drive because I still wanted to beat it. Had my new controller for a while now and decided it was finally time. I did it. I actually did it. I struggled so much before but I did it. I didn't even have to use akos sugar or anything. Just one resurrection and one healing gourd paired with the umberella. Thank you for helping me beat this boss finally
I totally regret taking advantage of the exploit , it really does leave you feeling empty. Its best to turn on your favorite playlist and feel the rush of true victory.
Yeah, no it doesn't. Taking advantage of an enemy's weakness is part of being a shinobi. It can still kick your ass if your not carefully regardless however you beat him so chill
@@jeffreyali3644 a cheese is a cheese. It's clearly not the designed way to kill him especially since it's an optional boss. Git gud or skip him. Robbing yourself of a challenge for an achievement is pretty lame.
@@bbbbbbb51 Did you buy the game for him? If you didn't, why are you telling someone what to do in a game they bought? And this "git gud" stuff is a meme. No one has to play to your standard.
You by far, have THE BEST boss guides. I fought the Demon for hours, got close but something would always hit me. Watched your guide, learned exactly where my mistakes were and bet him on the 3rd try. The 1st and 2nd tries were testing what I learned from your video. Thank you for your work.
@@Theo_M2 funny you say that, i watched a video about that. Was curious so I gave it shot. Took me about 40 mins but I managed. I think I felt more rage trying to get that jump down that actually fighting the damn demon lol
Hey man, just wanted to let you know that your strats instantly helped me. I was stuck on him bc I’m trying to 100% the game, and I couldn’t get the phase 2 unblockable attacks timing down. Watched video, next try I beat him. I really appreciate it!
Just beat him thanks to this guide. My attack was at 12 (used mask once), and combined with the sugar + malcontent trick he showed me, I was able to completely wipe out his 3rd phase without him ever attacking. It's like another commenter said, you have more time than this video shows you, so make sure you really squeeze out all the time it gives you. I got greedy and almost got hit by his peril attack twice when I got the Malcontent in at the last second.
I defeated him raw without any prosthetic tools or candy, but it took me many hours to memorize all his movements and build the best strategies to avoid all his attacks. Feels great to defeat him finally.
I don't know why but your guides intro made me cry because I felt like I needed a friend and you made me feel like I had one. I'm sick at the moment, and your intro made my day just a bit better, so thank you 👍
I noticed with all bosses that if you hit them consecutively, every other hit doesn't register damage. Maybe it's better to swing slower so the damage actually counts?
when i first tried him he absolutley destroyed me so i was feeling really discouraged about fighting him but honestly with this guide i only need like 3-4 tries to beat him and had plenty of healing leftover, thanks for the mega useful guides still helping people 3 years later
Hey I want to say thanks for making this guide. I struggled hard with this boss when I first played and on this, my second playthrough in years, you made it literally quick and easy to win. Thanks man.
In general you need to keep running towards his right side whenever he is far and stay on his legs throughout the fight except when he jumps. You can use Malcontent only 3 times so I recommend saving it for the last phase.
I've been struggling on this boss for 2 days now, finally decided to look up how to beat this boss. Then I realised I never used the umbrella in my entire playthrough, even though I have it upgraded, Also, my health bar is considerably smaller than yours. I need to beat some other mini bosses before fighting this one. Thank you for the guide, now it seems doable. :)
I can tell your someone who doesn’t actually rush to push content and knows how to put together an amazingly well detailed and coherent Sekiro guide. Thank you Shinobi.
Died around 6 times to him. Watched your guide, beat it next try. Granite 0 gourds left out of 10 but got it done. That umbrella is the great neutralizer of DOH.
Also, with Ishin, it's all about pairing most of his attacks and not letting up. He does the most damage to you when you go back to heal because he just bum rushes you. Once you get to his final form it gets a lot easier because he starts throwing lightning at you and you can literally throw that right back at him and do a quarter of his health
Thank you so much man, I never managed to beat him on my first playthrough and stopped trying after a while but your video allowed me to git gud enough to finally beat him!! Really good video.
Never would've guessed that the man who saved our live and gave us shelter would be the hardest boss fight in the game I legit took 3 hours to beat him on NG+
I’ve been playing through every Soulsbourne game and Sekiro is my last stop. This has been one of the only bosses I genuinely started to think I wouldn’t be able to beat (without cheesing at least). But I just did it thanks largely to this guide.
Thank you for the guide, I have watched a lot of guides but I believe your method helps the most. Finally beat him after like 20 tries, I had 1 gourd and 1 sprit emblem left. I thought I was going to die but thankfully I tanked his jump and gave him the good old suzaku at the end.
I was like, "huh, he's missing the left arm, maybe it's the sculptor since he went missing." I just saw a comment noting you saying "Overgrown orangutan" right as you said "For those who didn't know." aaaaand it clicked
My only add to this wonderful guide. If you need to heal don't disengage. Keep cool, follow attack patterns for next opportunity to attack safety and heal instead. Trust me it will help you get that tangu outfit.
Excellent guide. Undoubtedly this advice helped me beat the boss but there were a couple of things that didn't work for me so I had to change tactic. These might help others: 1. On the body slam attack in phases 1 and 2, I found it better to run away and grapple rather than use the umbrella because I was just using up way too many spirit emblems early in the fight when in fact they were better saved for phase 3 so that I could use both the umbrella as protection and Malcontent's whistle to gain an advantage. 2. I found it very difficult to dodge any stomp attack so, rather than chance it and take damage, I blocked or deflected instead. Thanks, Cowboy. Mint guide.
Ok so you are an amazing person. I took your advice and on my first try today i beat demon of hatred and you saved me such a lifetime of pain i can't thank you enough
I did it. I fucking fucking fucking did it. I saw his health was down enough and just did the malcontent thing. Whatever you have to do to get past this guy, fucking do it. But apparently the next guy is even fucking harder
When I started fighting this guy, I had 430 spirit emblems. When I beat him, I had 300. This guy ate 130 of my spirit emblems over the course of like 2 hours
Anyone else notice that the unblockable thrust attack indicator doesn’t show up (audio or visual) about 25% of the time in this fight and the lateral dodge mechanic avoids the damage sometimes but doesn’t others - even though the exact same sequence of timing and events has occurred? After fighting this boss about 40 times I honesty think part of the reason so many people struggle is because there are important pieces of the fight that are glitched. Call me crazy and tell me git gud, but this is happening quite often and I’m positive I’m not the only one having these issues.
i'm sure it's a timing/positioning issue, i'v just beaten him without umbrella/malcontent and i can generally see how/why i get hit when i do, just keep in mind that this game doesn't give you as many i-frames as the other From games.
I beat this fiery butthole last night, it took me 10-15 tries but I guess I finally got gud! Sekiro is my first FromSoft game and I absolutely love it.
I much prefer Bloodborne and Dark/Demon Souls. But as much as I don’t care for Sekiro I’m glad it has a good following. FS is the shit, can’t wait for Elden Ring
Thank you I'm doing my first playthrough in Sekiro as a newbie to souls games and this helped me a lot! Before watching this I couldn't really survive from the 2nd phase but then I could kill it in a few try
Second attempt at this boss today since I did it the first time 3 years ago (it took me five hours then..) - after this video it toook me two tries, the Suzaku's umbrella and Malcontent really make all the difference! Thanks man
