This is the first course in the School Leadership for Social-Emotional Learning and Character Development professional certificate program at the College of Saint Elizabeth in partnership with Rutgers University. In this course we will explore the most current and relevant research and innovations in social-emotional learning (SEL) and school culture and climate (SCC) in a collaborative, motivating, facilitator-led online learning environment.
The primary goal of SEL101 is to help existing school leaders, teachers, administrators and other educators develop the confidence and the knowledge to effectively influence and implement social-emotional learning and school culture and climate initiatives within the framework of their own school. You will leave this course with a foundational knowledge and understanding of the research, and the confidence to embark upon school-wide initiatives, which involve organizing and leading diverse groups of people and influencing a multitude of stakeholders. You’ll be fully prepared to enter into SEL201, which will help strengthen your leadership abilities and deliberately help you to conceptualize a set of practical strategies for implementing social-emotional learning, character education, and school culture and climate initiatives at your school or within your district.
