My first impressions of one of the most technically advanced GZDoom games ever!

DISCLAIMER: I have not finished the game yet, I have played roughly 14 hours but I spent a lot of that time exploring and replaying. The game is on average 9-13 hours depending on how much you explore. But I chose to explore a lot so I still have ways to go before I finish it. That said my 14 hours has given me a good enough of a impressions to share my thoughts on it. I call it a review at the start, but it's not a review. It's Zlim the most average dad in history rambling on about hes thoughts on Selaco and not an in-depth review going through all the mechanics and items of the game. Also accidentally compressed the audio for the video so it's not up to regular standard SORRY!

@@bockstah yes with no effort, all ultra settings wattage hovers between 9w - 15w and the deck can handle much, much more, baldurs gate 30 had my deck pushing almost to the maximum at 28-29w, the deck is surprisingly powerful and reliable

I wake up ans guess what I see?? An email notification from steam about Selaco. Then 3 great channels coming in very hot with the Selaco vids, the first of which I will watch?? Well this one of course! Thanks Zlim and everyone who told me about it in streams. Ps: i really like being able to read in games. It's also a good 90s callback to certain games that had a "`story" setting along with difficulty.

Industry: It's far too expensive to make a game that focuses on a good singleplayer... Altered Orbit Studio: Hold my with suspicious purple fluid filled glas. And this Nailgun. And this banana peel. And this turret. And this engine blackmagic. And this style. And this playtime. And this level of polish in EA. And this amount of Selaco mods on day one in the workshop, that we also made. And this Zlimbratski. And this hype. And this audio quality. And this ost. And this interactivity. And these particles. And the unnecessarity of a gigantic day 1 patch. And this our blood, sweat and lifetime. And this fluid movement. And this enemy behavior. And all these options for accessability.

Hey Zlim, been a long time. It is always heartwarming to see this channel grow. But you know me, my Hungarian blood never rests. Great video but I feel you were all over the place at the beginning..... "STORY" comes up then in a next second you are talking about the description of guns etc. Whatever, I'm just pulling your leg. You are on the way to make some really good bucks on RU-vid and you are doing a stellar performance. Many people take things for granted but I can actually sense the amount of effort you (and your editor if you have one) put into these videos. I only played the demo of Selaco and it was out of this world....great title btw. Wishing you good health and luck but as always a quick question....in three sentences how would you describe this experience compared to Trepang2? (which is is obviously a FEAR game too). See ya!

Great game like the demo before ❤. Waiting was totally worth it and I'm still glad, that we wouldn't have to wait 500 years from now 😅😉 And yes, the end result is what make it count. Remember the last official Duke Nukem games ? We've waited for decades and what did we get? Correct, one of the most crap games ever and a disgrace to the franchise. Back to Selaco. The game is in every point just awesome. Unfortunately I catched a cold yesterday and can't enjoy it properly, but in the next days I will enjoy this epic game. As I already mentioned for the demo before, the customizations in the options are one of a kind. Exceptional work of the devs in every aspect. The graphics, the audio and escpecially the destruction are fantastic. Love it. Have fun with the game and see you soon. And to everyone else: buy this fantastic game 🤗

Haha yeah that was steam achievements :D first ever GZDoom game with that! It just now entered early access, but the full campaign is in it. Its not a regular EA, its more a regulae full release where you can expect some DLC's and polish :)

A lot of options to fine-tune is great, but what about the most important one of them: making the blood red?! 🤣With all the graphical splendor in the levels, this design decision is just so out of place, that combined with the overall art-direction aiming to recreate most things we already have here on Earth ("...we have...fire") resulting in what i'd call it a deal-breaker. Particularly with the game being neither dystopian, nor fantasy nor sci-fi (as in Prey 2006 sci-fi), i can easily put it aside until 2025, at least. I perfectly acknowledge Selaco (did that come from "Sulaco"?🤔) as a superb technical achievement, i just wish all that effort, skill and talent was directed to something truly imaginative, capable to wow the player with something more than just how many pieces can a table explode into. Where are the alien temples, derelict spaceships in zero-g and eldritch castles underground? In another game, lol. I guess so. Maybe with some Brutal-Doom-style carnage modded into it, maybe, a very BIG maybe.

game is moddable, and there is a day one mod by the devs to turn the blood red "Brutal Selaco" and there is plenty of red blood in the enviroments from the "normal" humans who lived there, your not killing normal humans in the game, hence the purple blood :) What you see here is far, far, far from everything the game delivers, these incredible set pieces your asking for they exists just not as you describe them here :)

My thoughts? Th idea that anyone would make a fear style game on gzdoom with so much destruction and particle effects, sounds like the stupidest idea ever, like trying to make a realistic underwater game with six degrees of freedom like descent but on the wolfenstein 3d engine, and yet it works, How? Are they using black magic? When you said the game has tons of text logs and it is one giant interconnected level, i was reminded of system shock 2 and prey, its sad we dont get games like this anymore and instead we get "games as service"....cringe, but hey since hey did it, perhaps its not impossible to get a system shock style game on gz doom engine, which will be really insufferable to balance since gzdoom doesnt let you make small adjustments and keep playing like modern engines. Speaking of which has anyone tried running it with gzdoom and using a slow motion pk3 file? Should work right? Also i dont like the way the smg looks, reminds me of project brutality's smg and i always hated how dumb that magazine was, at least make it a bulky drum magazine or something.

There are two drawbacks so far: 1 early access, not a full release; 2 there is not enough variety of enemies, I would like more variety of enemies. Otherwise the game is an amazing shooter.

The early access is not your standard early access, the full campaign of 31 levels is out already. Expect polish and two DLC styled content drops for the Early access :) Not sure how far you played but enemies gets introduced slowly

I liked the game. But I don't like early access. It's worth waiting for the release of the full version to play through it completely.

I'm really miffed they removed the demo, that's my pet peeve. If the demo build no longer represents the final game, you inform users with a splash screen, you don't just get rid of it - it was _great_ fun. Having a playable preview _earns_ sales. At least they preserved the demo, but you have to actively seek it out outside of Steam.

Seriously indie devs will 90% of the time be better and more dedicated than any AAA developer, and blaming indie devs for Slipgate Ironworks making a such a bad game as Phantom Fury is beyond funny xD Oh man thank you for the good laugh xD

@xinister3843 indies are good for people who haven't played the old games and don't have access to old games. However, as someone who has already played pretty much every type of game available, indies are mid compared to even older games.
