There is absolutely no one better at playing that high lonesome sound than John Starling and Seldom Scene. For that matter, no one in music played as tight or sung as true as the Scene. Fare thee well men.
Wow These guys were the real deal ,they were icons there sound and unique style was in a league alone . Awesome just poetry in motion !!!!! Dammit why do people have to get old and die . I was just glad I got too witness such talent (just makes you appreciate artist and there incredible talents)
Great example of versatility within a genre - so great that the genre expands- Starling to Rosenthal to Starling to Reid to Connell - all excellent & all serious contributors with their own skills - yet able to do skillfully the entire SS challenging repetoire. Just cant be better. Tks gentlemen.
Really nice. It's great rediscovering Seldom Scene after more than 30 years. Saw them in Glen Rock PA at the amazing Gon' Fishin' Festival in Sept. 1977.
He saved my life. He was a doctor and he took a tumor out of my head. I knew him for years and he never acted like a star, he acted like a country doctor.
I don't think Phil was lost. Starling shows why he's EmmyLou's favorite singer. John got this from Merle. No disrespect to The Hag, but Starling does it better (I love the Lisner recording, with Mike on Sho-Bud instead of Dobro)
