www.ApogeeRockets.com - We are often asked, "which launch controller should you buy?" In this video, we seek to answer it.
There are a variety of launch controllers and in this video we go over each one available. We'll go over the pros and cons of each launch controller, the reasons your might want one over another, and if you need any in particular for any special circumstances.
The launch controller is responsible for starting the igniter, the igniter is responsible for actually launching the rocket. Not every igniter is going to work with every launch controller, and in this video, we go over that too!

I built my own similar to how many others have said, I actually took the wires from 2 old estes electron beam controllers, cut the clips off of one of them, and soldered them together for a 30ft. cable. It has 11 volts and works fine for my mid-power rockets. once you know what igniter type you are going to use, it's really up to whether you want to spend more money on a new controller or spend more time making your own. as far as safety goes, I tend to like the ones that seem overkill, just in case. in my controller, I wired in a switch where the two cables connect so that in addition to the safety key (which you have to not only insert but turn) you have to first turn on that initial safety switch. anyway, sorry for rambling but helpful video, I really appreciate all of these in-depth tutorials and explanations and the large amount of information you have on just about every product on the site.

I built my own that had automatic countdown using a timer circuit that at 0 a relay would trip and fire the rocket igniter. it had a digital indicator.

I've built my own controller and it works great. These also look great

Yea, I did too. Like ~20 years ago. But unfortunately I stole myself some of the parts from it over the years for other projects, and now that I got back into the model rocket hobby, I can't find the old wiring diagram anymore, and so this once very nice 12V launch controller is pretty much useless.

You didn't mention the Estes Pro Series 2 will use rechargable battery packs that allow launch of 6 blackpowder or 4 composite engines.

So you claim the wireless launcher has a range of about 200' which sounds great but on your website looking at the specs on that wireless launcher it claims it only has 40' of range. So which is it? 40 or 200?

I know this is kind a stupid question but I still don’t know the answer are the E matches are reusable

are the higher power controllers compatible with weaker engines?
@apogeerockets
@apogeerockets 4 года назад
Remember, it is not the controller that lights the engine. It is the igniter. Higher power controllers can fire off all igniters. It doesn't care which motors they are in.

Apogee Components does it ignite the igniters that are connected to the engines?
@terrywheelock9458
@terrywheelock9458 3 года назад
@@apogeerockets yeah the "controller" doesn't "FIRE OFF" anything it ignites, lights, or starts an igniter! You might want to bone up on terminology that is appropriate, productive, and positive to rocketry! You might want to sound professional! 🤣
