Not related to this video, but I want to thank you so much for your channel. I’ve been low-vision for about a week after an eye injury, and couldn’t open my eyes for five full days. As someone sighted and who took their vision for granted, it was initially terrifying-especially because there was a potential of my photophobia being permanent and essentially rendering my sight nonfunctional. I’ve followed your channel for years, and learning more about blindness and adaptations made for functionality meant that this week was more frustrating than scary. I stopped worrying about losing my sight because I knew that sight isn’t the end-all-be-all of functionality. I basically asked myself “What would Molly do” or “What would Molly say” whenever I was stuck in a corner or starting to freak out, and it really helped. It started to feel more like an adventure and less like a constant point of stress. Thank you for your content and thank you for actively breaking down stigmas around blindness. I know it’s selfish, but I really don’t know how I would have handled it before being introduced to your content.

I am from Norway, and heated floors are a standard in the bathroom. I have almost never been to any place that does not have it. Maybe a mountain cabin, that does not have power or water. But heated floors are common, very common. Part of it might be to help prevent cold during winter from breaking the pipes by freezing the water inside of them.

The phrase “master bedroom” first appeared in the 1926 Sears catalog, according to the real estate blog Trelora. It was a feature of a $4,398 Dutch colonial home, the most expensive in the catalog, referring to a large second floor bedroom with a private bathroom.

@hannahatlas
@hannahatlas 2 года назад
The term master bedroom doesn't actually come from slavery, it was introduced by Sears in the 1920s. While, that is a huge reason people stopped using it (evoking images of slavery), master is also a masculine word implying that it would be the bedroom for the "man of the house". It's always great to adapt our language as the times change and we realize the implications of our vocabulary
@aksez2u
@aksez2u 2 года назад
This was my thought. "Master of the house" is what it means. There are other uses for the word "master" that don't have negative connotations such as to "master a skill". However, if the word evokes negative meanings such as being the master of another person or even just masculine energy over feminine energy, I can see why people might want to use another term.

Hi! I'm from Romania - aaaand heated flooring are not a standard here, but the heated towel racks are - they serve the purpose of bathroom heaters (which most, if not all, buildings have), so even if you're doing a remodeling of and old house/condo, you can easily get one installed. As for heated flooring, it's a lot harder and expensive to do, so most people don't get that feature - rugs are a norm tho, so that would kinda replace them.

Of course there are still a lot of older houses where that isn't the case and the heaters are installed on the lower parts of the walls in every room. I wonder if Molly could safely do curling? I was inspired by watching some of her "blind girl does sports" videos. I mean, if someone lined her up in the hack, it could help with her lining up? She could also avoid pushing out in a lunge position that might affect her balance, if it is easier, she could use a stick to push the rock down the ice. She could also use grippers, which can be quite commonly found since most curlers use curling shoes, which have a slider on one foot, making the ice slippery-er, allowing them to slide down the ice and push a rock down. When not needing a slider, some curlers (including me) use a gripper to negate the sliding affect and help them balance better on the ice. I use a griper on my slider foot (which is also the same side as my bad ankle) to help with balance, since my balance isn't the best due to a reoccurring injury. If someone is guiding her., sweeping might not be too hard either. I have a friend who has Down's Syndrome and curls, and I know there is wheelchair curling, so disabled curlers aren't out of the realm of possibility. Anyways, if it is safe, I would love to see if Molly could curl, and how a blind girl could adapt to curl.

I'm from Germany and in my experience heated flooring is mostly found in newer buildings. It is definitely not the "standard" for most houses/apartments. Heated towelbars however are quite common. Basically all new build bathrooms use a towel heater as a secondary heat source for the room (or even primary heat source if the room is tiny). My mother is just renovating her house and she is getting heated flooring too. She is very excited.

I live in Norway and especially bathrooms are heated, it is weird if thry are not. Many people also have heated floors throughout. However, A/C is NOT really a thing and our houses are made to keep warm in the winter, so we struggle in the summertime 🥵 We have heat pumps which are similar but not at all the same. I have never ever seen an A/C vent in a Norwegian home! I am american so I have done a lot of comparison 😆

I'm from Ukraine and heated towel bars are pretty common here. Heated bathroom floors are pretty much a standard for modern apartments, but not many people have them in older buildings (although you definitely can have them in older buildings as well, but it may be quite expensive)

Germany. Heated floors are not standard if you are renting normal/cheap flats, but are also not too uncommon. I've grown up in a flat with heated floors in the whole flat and that was 20 years ago, idk how old the building is but we were not the first to rent it. I have no idea about houses though.

I'm from the UK. My house was built in 2014 and has heated floors in the (furnished) basement and ground floor but nowhere else. This is the first house where we've had heated floors. When I was a kid, there was a hot water pipe that ran across the kitchen that we used to stand on when our feet were cold but I don't think that counts. 😂

For anyone watching and wanting the same tiles for the bathroom and the same kitchen backdrop. It will be a paint to clean and if your ok with not being able to keep it clean, then go ahead, i guess. Like, im imagining the bathroom tile and just scrub it with a toothbrush, spot by spot. And the spots are textured, so some stuff just wont get out.

When I lived in England, heated towel bars were standard, but, heated floors were a modern house thing. Good luck finding a modern house! Most of the houses I lived in were built in the Victorian period and had sealed up fireplaces in every room and dangerously steep stairs (im poor lol). The one time I lived in a modern place and had heated floors I wanted to sleep on them XD

The connotation of the word "master" may be a good reason to use an alternate term if you wish but the terms "master bedroom" and "master suite" are not nearly that old. They first appeared in a Sears catalogue in 1926.

While I like the look of the bathroom floor tile all I can envision is the gunk and dirt that can easily accumulate in the dots. It seems to me that you'd have to be on your hands and knees with a scrub brush to clean each and every dot. 🤷‍♀️

In Switzerland, most if not all newer buildings have floor heatings in all rooms (except cellars, etc.), but the majority of us live in older buildings (anything from 50 years to around 500 years) which do not have that. When looking for an apartment, one that I went to look at but didn't end up chosing had specifically been renovated to have heated flooring in the bathrooms only, but that was rather rare. When it comes to really old houses, it's extremely unlikely that you'll have any heated flooring because it's just too difficult to renovate, even for high-end purposes. The university I go to is spread out across the city and quite a few parts are in late-medieval buildings, that may be beautiful, but it's not very heat efficient. Ground floors are wonderfully cool in summer, but really cold in winter.
