It was a real treat to have attended the ABA fall rendezvous on Mike’s farm!! Everyone there was very welcoming!! I look forward to attending another ABA event!
I remember, sitting around a table with farm hands and manager, fifteen plus years ago. The comments were generally that working with horses to farm and log “wasn’t real”. It was some privileged lifestyle to grow five dollar tomatoes for a farm stand. I wasn’t right about many things, so I remember well when I was. Oh, they are realer than anything man has made. Beyond the philosophical/spiritual aspects of “real “… now diesel is three times as expensive, parts are not available, shipping is iffy at best, no one can hire employees to fix things, and “green “ corporate statutes present ever increasing problems for the working people. Suddenly it may seem, horses can help grow their own fuel, they self reproduce, a carpenter or mechanic of the lowest skill set can repair any equipment. They are silent so they don’t trigger informant neighbors. They are better to work with then 96.35 percent of modern humans. They are not only realer then the dollar, but realer than the Korean tractor companies pretending to be American.
