My self built SWB Vauxhall vivaro camper van with tonnes of storage, solar, compressor pullout fridge, diesel heater, shadow gap ceiling, custom upholstery, U Shape seating along with front swivel seats, 240 hookup, off grid stealth van.
Greetings from another van converter in Australia. Thanks for the video. I am always learning from other people who have converted their vans. Very nice job. I wish you many happy trips. Have a nice day.
Thank you so much. I’ve gone on to build quite a few more for customers since building this one for myself. I just need to use it’s more. It’s been out twice in the last 5 months. It might end up being for sale.
Looks really good mate, I've just bought a high top vivaro with plans to convert it. I found you easy to watch and listen to, most RU-vidrs are boring as hell. Curious to know what solar panels and controller, battery, lights, tap and plumbing and other such gumpf you went for, where you sourced them, etc etc. Especially interested in the swivel seat. Can you do it yourself or does it need to be to a certain safety code. What about the drivers seat? But, well done, looks good and is functional. Shows what can be done on a smaller budget from a home garage.
Hi pal, leave it with me and I’ll did the info out for you. The seats were from a ford galaxy. Minor adjustment to original base and you’ll need a drivers side base for the passenger side if you go single seat there. Solar I used renogy175watt kit, taps cheap household mixer tap£15. Lights pack of 6 for £20. Agm 110amp battery. Submersible pump.
Wow, thanks for your speedy reply. I appreciate any help you can give. Both my seats are already singles. So no drama there. Already gave diesel heater and leisure battery fitted as its an ex- gas board van. Thanks, Mark.
To be fair the whole van inside came up a treat. It was owned for the last 11 years by a lady market trader. Thanks for the lovely comment. We finally got away in her last week. Headed down south to Cornwall. She was great
@@NorthWalesCampers I'm going to do a quick video of mine shortly so you'll see. I'm going to pull out the sink which I never use and replace with a work top
Hi there. Lovely build. What kitchen units have you used? Struggling for inspiration for my bed in my trafic and then this pops up with just the kitchen I've been imagining. Jim
Hi thanks for the comment. I used a 800 base unit and 400 wall unit from Howdens but B&Q ok too check out my other vivaro build video. You’ll like that one. The cabinet layouts better.
Glad it helped. I removed the plastic trim and carpeted it and just resisted and and fit where the window is I made a custom panel with a smaller opening and fitted an IKEA blinds behind it. Works a treat.
Hi, thanks for the comment, No I didn’t use a vapour barrier, I’ve been a caravan and Motorhome engineer for nearly 16 years and not one manufacturer who builds with coach built or van conversions use a vapour barrier. They just cause issues. The van needs to breathe in my honest opinion. Hope this helps. Please subscribe. More content to follow soon.
@@NorthWalesCampers it does help thank you for replying so quickly.. As a Very novice self builder the Struggle I had putting the bloody silver bubble wrap thing on the walls I vowed I'd never do it again 👍👍
I honestly think everyone does it because it’s on here. It’s a massive overkill imho. Everyone seems to listen to Greg Virgoe, I’ve had to correct him and he still denied he was wrong regarding gas works.
Just seen your vid. Am looking to do similar ish but need removable bed as will also be used as a work van. That said what front seats did you use and were they an easy fit
Hi Steve I used for galaxy seats. They were fairly straightforward to fit. Just drilled new holes on the bases. You’ll need another drivers side base. There straightforward to fit to as the holes are already in the floor.
I’m a caravan and Motorhome service engineer, manufacturers who build Motorhomes whether that be coach built or a van conversion there’s never a vapour barrier, plus other professional builders I speak to never install them and for me I just think they cause bigger issues down the line. Just make sure you add ventilation both high level and low level. You’ll never have issues then unless water gets in from outside. Hope this helps.
Hi david. Thank you. Check out the other build similar. This is my own build where I made a few mistakes but the other one is spot on and was built for a customer
I have vivaro swb myself pop top roof ut now happy with the bed boards I wanted struts fixing is this something you could help with I live on the wirral not far from you
Hi Andy not sure what you mean thanks. Do you mean the wall ply. That’s been secured to the structure and the window reveal has returns that are screwed both the the ply and the vans structure. Keep asking. If I can help I certainly will try.
@@andytawa1114 hi Andy the fold out section has a fold out leg that neatly tucks away in seat mode but drops into place in bed mode. I’ll video making the bed up and putting it away this weekend without the cushions on. It’s currently of the road. Cylinder 1 injector has failed. Ordered the tools to remove so hopefully doing that tomorrow. May video it.
Hiya. Thanks for your comment. Mine was around 1780mm in length but you could easily make it longer. It would just protrude past the sliding door a little more that’s all.
Excellent conversion 👍 Are you a carpenter? I have a LWB Vivaro for work (bathroom fitter), would love to convert it, but wouldn’t have room for work tools etc 🙄 😂
Hi thanks for the comment, if being honest no I’m not, but I’ve been a hobbyist woodworker and cabinet builder for the last 15 years. And over the years my skill set has massively improved. I have a movano for my work vehicle which in the coming weeks will be getting stripped and completely reworked as since selling my camper I regret it so I’m going to convert my work van into a multi use work/camper van, removable rear bed and cabinets with multi purpose based on IKEA cubes so I can swap over easily. If you’d like to get in touch and dial further please email thecaravandoc@yahoo.co.uk Thanks.
Hi Tim thanks for the comment. I’ve drilled new holes on the original vivaro seat bases for the galaxy seats. You just need another single seat bases for the passenger seat. I’ve just stripped the old pretensioners off the old seats and plugged them in under the seats. I just need to figure out what’s stopping it from swivelling both ways and 360 degrees then I’d be happy.
Thank you. I was very happy with the finished result. It was just a shame I didn’t use it as much as I intended on doing. I recently sold it and it’s getting used every weekend now.
@@NorthWalesCampers wow thanks for the speedy reply and it’s very helpful to know. I’ve just bought a Vivaro and thinking of doing my first van build with it👍
I hit it hard for 2 weeks as I work. for myself and it was probably 80-85% complete. I just took my time then around with. Probably 4 weeks Monday to Friday easily.
Blimey that’s expensive. Why so much. Injectors are around £300 max each. Think I paid £220 as an exchange off of ones. Can you not do it yourself. I’d a fairly straightforward job.
Wow amazing work man, just a quick question I'm in the process of converting the same thing at the moment, did you require an upgrade in suspension at all post conversion?
Leave it with me. Currently building something very similar with the U shape seating arrangement.I build the basic structure using 2x1 par timber. Doesn’t need to be any bigger than that as once the cladding on that adds strength. The seat base is made from 18mm plywood
Hi, they are sound deadening mats, reduces the rattling from the panels. The ting noise disappears and when tapped it’s more off a thud. They work great. Defo recommend.
Hi Ryan I fixed battens to the roof and then when fixing the slats as they are only thin and lightweight I pinned them in place using my nailer firing the nails in on an angle for a stronger fixing.
Hi. It’s an L1 model. Short wheel base. Thanks. Are you about to start a build. I’m currently converting another swb vivaro for a customer. He loved my layout and wanted the same
