@brototype It's a great interview. I watched this as part of my curriculum. Thank you brototype for recommending this amazing concept. 1)Get up early 2)Manage your time 3)Balance your day and there by your life. Finally Discipline = Freedom
Man, he's a good speaker. I cannot imagine being so eloquent and at the same timd also look at the interviewer and look at the audience, it's pretty amazing what kind of stage presence he has
He provided the secret to success at the 18 min time frame. Get up early and have a plan and disciple yourself to take small steps each day because they add up to BIG RESULTS! Focus 1-2 hours each day and do this over and over again and one day "It must be nice" will happen in your life. This applies to anything important to you. Family, Faith, Fitness, Fortune, and Friends. You and I mean you, can do these things and others will see you at the TOP. Get to work!
The main reason I love listening to Jocko isn't because he is a bad ass, or because he is a NAVY SEAL. But because his way of living is of the utmost importance any human being should strive for. God bless you and thank you sir.
I also prefer to go biking early in the morning before any excuses roll in. I also like the calm and peace of being out in a forest when it's empty. I like the sound of the leaves and the wind and a few squirrels playing in the trees.
What an amazing output. Yes....i remember when i waa younger and i wanted to do everything, always woke up early to do it because no one in my whole family was awake to stop me or complain. I had a great body, I was voted most likely to succeed because I was good at everything or so they said. Yet, the humble part of me felt that I wasn't done yet. Now my life runs me. My motivation is gone and my kids trample me. I desire to complete so much and have no clue where to start. See I'm still dreaming but I'm not eating. So I'm hungry for my desires and because you said so, I'm trusting you a hero a leader. Pray for us all. Thanks for your service, your motivation, lessons in discipline and determination, and sharing it with the world.
Start with getting up early and exercising. Then really think hard what you want to do next in your life set a goal draw a plan and step by step move towards that goal. It is never too late to change your life or to improve yourself! Don't be afraid to dream again, then when you have a vision atacck it and go on the war path. Get after it!
It's workinnnnng!! Thank you Jocko. I hope you are speaking everywhere. To me, you are an example of a world leader. Thank you so much sir. I'm losing weight and doing everything I want. It's stressful but it's exciting and challenging.
1. Discipline = freedom 2. Complex problem, simplify them and solutions 3. Humility is a vital trade of a leader 4. To become discipline get up early in the morning 5. Don't schedule every minute of your day schedule your working hours and important parts 6. Start your cycle by walking up earlt not going to bed early 7. Balance is very important
As a new yoga teacher - I am discovering the joy of discipline. I enjoyed this talk! I want to be an inspiration to others- for Freedom in mind, body and spirit. Thanks!
I think 2020 and 2021 disproved Jocko's belief that "everyone wants more freedom." There are a lot of people who want government control, want a dictatorship, want the nanny state. There are a lot of people fear freedom become it requires personal responsibility.
It's cool that the interviewer had good questions and did ask the questions he had! Well done interview and Jocko's honest, humble, respectful responses to questions he was asked was cool!
Clicking the next RU-vid video of Jocko is what brought me to this video... I lack discipline. And will need to work harder on it. But all in all, Jocko is spot on with everything he said, says, and is saying. Better. Stronger. Faster. Smarter. Less ego. More humble. Discipline is FREEDOM. 🤙🤙🤙
The part about how he structures 4 hrs and not structuring a full day is a powerful system because you feel less stressed and overwhelmed while working on your top goals. I tried this and it's the most work I've done in 6 years. Also if you can do the structured 4 hours for your top goals earlier in the morning, even better before the interuptions start.
Success is to work hard and maintain your bills honest and do not be lazy. Thank God for my freedom and my family. I am greatful to be able to be working again.
I think if you are about to interview a beast like Jocko, most people would have problems getting into a comfortable place. I imagine he makes guys who spend most time at Starbucks on their Mac between their pilates classes very very very insecure and nervous.
you've never tried pilates have you. That shit is hard, and will give you an iron midsection. It's possible to do pilates and squat heavy, they are not mutually exclusive.
I totally agree with the routine. I have a structured day and have had one since I left school. My evenings are the most routinized. But, do not schedule every single hour of the day. You need to be flexible.
Interesting to watch the interviewer's body and expressions as Jocko spoke - I'm thinking it might have hit home with him, making him feel uncomfortable. :-) But in humility, it's an assumption that could be off. Enjoyed the interview and I appreciate Jocko's perspective. It works!. I get up every work-day, read inspirational material and journalfor 15 - 20 minutes, exercise (biking or yoge) for 30 - 45 minutes, and meditate for 10 - 15 minutes before my shower and breakfast. Amazing how much better I feel and I'm ready for the day. Some of that activity is done with my wife. It has connected us in deeper intimacy and friendship. DO IT!
I lived watching this! I learned alit. My father is passed away. I feel like he is a good father-like figure. Firm guiding hand and kick in the bum when you know you are being lazy and mediocre even to your own standards. Thank you Jocko!
I am greatful for my freedom. I am greatful to be working again. I am not to go back to my addiction. I am greatful to understand that my freedom and my family and job are important and I have to work hard for it. Thank God for my freedom and to be working again.
I’m so glad the comments section is filled with people who recognize there is a big difference in men here. The interviewer is the product of now days society. A soft kid with no back bone dressed in men’s clothes. Jocko is the real deal and needs to be president.
At 22:39 I turned off RU-vid to set up the alarm for 6:30. I will watch the rest of the video after writing this comment. Without motivational videos my life would be far worse. And people are telling me that they are just self-help nonsense. They just don't know how much those videos changed my life. I'm now motivated to get up earlier than I did today. I am doing it slowly. Once I would only get up at 11 or 12 if I had "nothing to do" what was whenever my first class at college was before 12. I was choosing to not to take one class just because it started at 9 while The Boring One was starting at 2. It did not end well. Made me think about my priorities and do nothing again. Months after that I discovered motivational videos. I still felt guilty for having to take the class again, so I tried to make myself a morning person and failed. After another one I started easy and decided to take tiny steps. I now wake up quite early and am working on making my dreams real instead of just dreaming them. I am more tired at night and fall asleep easier. You just have to be consistent and not sleep more just because it's a weekend and your circadian rhythm would change.
Very nice interview, great slow speed and clear enunciation (easy for non-native speakers to follow), and the salient points of discipline all covered. And I think the interviewer did a great job here.
Great interview. I appreciate this. I also have a caveat that no one likes to hear on these channels or platforms. It is the fact that some people are disciplined, worked and work hard and never get to have that freedom. Some people are burdened with things they cannot control or choose. They only have the choice to not give up… on themselves or the few relying on them. For anyone born working class/working poor and below we happen to live in a country where there are still possibilities to rise up and incrementally change/improve your circumstances.. the opportunity is somewhat shrinking, but still available. With that being said, if you get hit hard early while in process of improving/changing your life it becomes exponentially more difficult as a time moves forward and you get hit hard every time you get back up never getting to the point where you have longtime security.. sure your character improves every time you choose not to quit and work harder and smarter than most just to have the bottom rung of middle class. The issue becomes that you do have a finite amount of time and people are superficial. So people have a strong belief that everyone whom has wealth or things has worked hard and has good character.. and that the inverse is that anyone without wealth is of bad character or at least deserves their lot in life
love this guy, different background to most people cos we're not all navy seals, but he is right on about discipline . it can seem like your enemy but its actually your best friend
"...And I'll leave you with that". Fucking powerful. Discipline equals Freedom. Guess what? Tomorrow morning I'm going to the gym, third time since I started training yesterday.
Keep it up, man. I hope you have been able to stay discipline until today. And if you dont, there is always something you can learn from failure and keep trying.
The part at the end about discipline is like the saying no one wants to die, but every one wants to go to evan… people always envy our lifestyle, but never the hards in it.
Brilliant… I love how he explains the concept of discipline on the long term to get the result while keeping some room for flexibility on the short term (like planning only 3-4 hours of the day and being ready to deal with the uncertainty that happens)
The discipline isn't just a fitness program or career advancement. This is what I teach--it is more holistic. You have to have all of your planes in alignment. The physical plane of fitness and proper diet. The emotional plane--is your mind in disarray or do you need to engage in mediation 15 minutes a day on top of your fitness program 5 days a week. Once you have those two planes in order the advance of career, your side hustle (IE maybe a RU-vid channel fellow vloggers) follows. Because you will be in a state of optimal physical health and emotional calm. One aspect of discipline flows into the other planes. Hope that helps--Charles
I don't have that kind of discipline, but I have learned to rise above most temptations, and that in itself is a form of discipline. A hard one, but it can be done.
At 13:40 talking about ego and assuming others don't have good ideas, or assuming your enemies are weaker, I immediately thought of Obama's "JV team" comment about ISIS.
Interesting take. I immediately thought of Trump, with his ego and his unwillingness to listen or admit mistakes. Having listened to a bunch of Jocko's stuff, I can't see him being a Trump fan.
The interviewer doesn't seem bad as a person to me. But he does give an apethetic impression during the interview. It is definitely not in alignment with the high energy level of Jocko Willink.
I actually think the interviewer did a fine job, in particular of you consider that jocko, on the surface, probably represents the opposite of what the interviewer stands for.
The guy who founded SUCCESS magazine is Orison Swett Marden. Read his story on wikipedia and then get his books for free on Gutenberg. Pushing to the Front is amazing! Life changing
To all of those that complained about the interviewer, you missed the point. Jocko did not let it affect the interview. Next time focus on what's important. Great information!
20 minutes listening: paused video, did 2nd round of dishes after emptying dishwasher, cleaned bathroom mirror, did inventory in fridge and added items to shopping list, cleaned stove. 1 hour later: pressed Play again, lol :)
