Are you self-isolating? Perhaps you are home schooling your children and looking for ideas to keep them engaged and learning. Our marketing manager Matt Parry enlisted his 10 year old son to shoot a roll of black and white Kentmere film and process it himself.
See how they get on in this short documentary video! (You can read the accompanying blog on our website). www.ilfordphot...
Are you planning to do any film photography projects with your children while self-isolating? If so, please do share them with us on our @ilfordphoto social channels.
Note: This was originally filmed for our Instagram Stories but has been pieced it together into this short (very low i.e. no budget) video for this channel as Matt's son wants to be a 'RU-vidr'!

Although i'm sure he will never admit it publicly. Matt really enjoyed doing this video and sharing his love of shooting film with his son. It is such a fun thing to do, either with your children or even on your own and there is such a sense of achievement when you see that you have got images on the negatives. We hope that you enjoy watching this as much as Matt did filming it. If you have any special film photography related projects planned for whilst your in lockdown then we'd love to hear about them.

Ah, this is great! I haven't shot or developed any film in nearly a decade, but I'm just about to get my hands on something and some film. I used to love HP5+ as a go-to B&W so I'll see how I enjoy it 10 years later, I think.

Best part is just hanging with his Dad. Appreciate Ilford and their employees. Be safe.

Hello from Hong Kong, it's a great idea to let kids try film processing when they have to stay away from campus and friends within this extreme period.

good video, and ilford, I am Not being "negative" about the gear in this video, as I love the tank idea ( saw simmilar "calumet" ones on youtube); esp. since all you do is add the film can to the tank, all else is done with the lid shut, esp. for kids (not having to use sissors in the dark!!), also the more of the younger generation we can get into film, processing, etc. the better for us all, and the simpler the process is, the easier it is to suceed with it, as there is less room for mistakes to occur, so having a complete negative processing suit is a great start; chemistry, tank, and film/camera good budget solution.

Thanks for watching Andy. The daylight processor is, as you say, ideal for children or beginners.

You should definitely give it a go. Black and white film processing is a great starter with kids and once they have that mastered you can get them in the darkroom:)

ILFORD Photo I miss being in the darkroom and developing my own film (from high school and college days). It looks so much easier to do at home.

ONE TIP ILFORD, with the simplicity chemicals, DON'T use this kind of packaging, my sister has twins and they have had Yoghurt and simmilar childrens drinks/desserts in this EXACT style of packaging!!!, so if kids are being 'exposed' to photography this way, change the packaging, as they may confuse this (if unsupervised) with the yoghurt products, mentioned earlier ( perhaps a plastic "cartridge" style syringe, like grease guns have, something NOT related to food packaging; this would also improve chem. safety as no one is touching anything, the chemistry/water can be added by connecting syringes together, like nurses do with drugs; and then mix by oscilating the assembly, and poor it to the tank).

Do you rinse the Lab Box between each step? I feel like Ilford is missing out on making better educational content for noobs like myself. Also never mentioned times for the stop / fixer.

No you don't rinse between each step. What other content would you like to see? We're always open to suggestions.
