A warning on official copyrights and ISBNs. Make sure your novel/novella is edited and ready to go before you get them. Major changes invalidate them, and you will have to get new ones.
In the U.S. now, you cannot sue for any copyright infringement unless you registered your book with the U.S. Copyright Office. You might have an automatic copyright when you write your book, but you can't do anything about it unless it's registered.
I am nowhere near ready to publish, but this is something I think about often because it's my first book, and I don't want to fuck it up. It's nice to know this video exists when I'm ready to move onto that step. My neurodivergent brain can stop freaking out now.
Same here, because of my anxiety and being autistic, I can be very self-conscious and overthink things. So I'm trying to learn as much as I can so I'm somewhat more prepared, but I think once I go through everything for the first time and figure out how everything works then it'll become easier the second time because I'll fully know what to expect

Fantastic video, Jenna! I want to self-publish my Czech-English Phrasal Dictionary in the future. It's a lot of work. I would like to sell it all over the country and offer it to all students and public. It will be the first edition. The great thing about this project is that I can extend it for the rest of my life because there's so much information.
I've been working on my book for some time now. It is almost finished, but then I found your video... now I have so much work to do 🤣 I've been using canva to create it. I have a pro account and there's tons of good pictures I can use. The affirmations are all complete, but I'm stuck on my cover. I can't make up my mind. The key words websites going to help me a lot! I literally got to that part and said .. Fuck.. Thank you for this video. It helped!
❤ that was great. And very accurate. Accept the copyright, I do believe you have to upload a copy to them as well. If you have your own ISBN number and you want your books sold ..... I forget where... But they require a publishing company name not the author's name. The 45% -55% discount you give to have your book on physical shelves will also be the discount for online books. And those stores will under bid your listing price on Amazon. Damn if you do damn if you don't. Can you do a video for those just starting....fonts, and where to get them. Editing and we're to find someone who does it all?
Is there a type of paper you recommend for chapter books? Is there a type of paper that DOESN'T yellow over time? A lot of my chapter books from middle school have turned yellow (I've had them for about 14 years) and have gotten fragile, so I wasn't sure if there was a type of paper for chapter books that didn't do that.
Hi, Jenna. This might be a stupid question, but how do you work out how many pages you book has? I write in Word (always), and I know how many pages are in Word, but is it the same amount? Input from anyone is very welcome. Thanks in advance.
Format your document to the approximate size you want your interior pages and write away. When you are finished how many pages do you have? This will be your page count don't forget to include copyright page, about the author page, full title page and any extras you want to include. . You must count in 4's. or 8's. Depending on whether you have your book printed in Xerox (digital printing 4 pagrs) or by a traditional (offset printing 8 pages). Also publishing companies do not print on acid free paper to preserve longevity of your book. 😂 And if they did it would cost you about $25 per page.
I keep seeing the company Reedsy offering free resources, but the reviews seems a bit sketchy. Was wondering if anyone has any experience working with them?
🎉book launchers seems pretty affordable and you keep your copyrights. They want you to be with them for at least three months. But not mandatory. You can check out their videos. They help you write, publish, and promote your book. If you can afford it. Might be worth looking into.
Funny how she brings gate keepers from agencies on here to tell us why they won’t read past two sentences of our novels and then she turns around and self published. Seems suss.
@@skylerricketts7392 well yeah. Kind makes me think she can’t get passed the gate keepers herself. And no one in their right mind would self publish when they could go the traditional route. The numbers don’t lie on that front.
😅 To get past the gate keepers you must not be white. You must be funny, you must have a huge social following and you must be willing to promote your own book.
