Looks like a fantastic life you are growing there Mike. Your family is clearly in good hands. On tip from my side would be to watch that Eucalyptus. I have no idea what soil you have in Pennsylvania but we planted one out when I was a boy and it grew straight up like a rocket and became a real pain. Made the saw all sticky when we had it down too!! Keep up the good work!
Very nice, good use of mulching to keep the weeding down and excellent use of useful "weeds". I also like your easy going use of volunteers and self-seeders. Nice companion planting and use of your various micro-climates. Though it wasn't said out right, the multiple reference to the chickens about the property probably means you move them about for chicken scratch self weeding/insect control/fertilizer. It must have been a lot of work to get started but you seemed to have used every trick in the book to make your garden sustainable and less labor intensive. Good job and thanks for sharing.
Great will have to subscribe in order to get those updates. Cracks me up to hear someone out side of New Zealand talking about eating koru or fiddlesticks as mike called them.
(with my head hung low) Yes, we are long over due for an update but due to living a few states apart and a whole bunch going on in our respective lives it is still in the planning stages. However, you'll be amazed by how much more Mike's accomplished when it comes to light! Stay tuned!
Another perennial yinz should look for is horse radish. Be careful though, it spreads like wildfire, but the different sauces you can make is delicious, especially with onions.
You've got wonderful garden here.. I've a question.. about raspberry if you know .. I wanted to know why is my raspberry leaves has brownish spots on it.. and if you know how can I make it better.. Thank you..
i like what you did, good job. i wanted to raise rabbits but i am not very good at building things like the cages some of the plans that i looked at where to hard for me but i like yours.
Had to make a new account(new user name)I am Mike in the video. Mike the camera man and I are talking of a visit and an update. Thanks for all the great comments. Some commented on that "adorable" son of mine. He is almost as tall as me now. He has made a video of our place it's at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dsSVeCWg82I.html called "more from the compound"
To All: Given Google's takeover of RU-vid I've found myself with two accounts which is annoying. I've uploaded the complete "Self Sufficiency" video in one file to my other account for easier viewing. Let me know if you have any problems finding it.
that looks so expensive and time consuming!! do you work?? i like that a little bit of industry and one man could accomplish such a vision. best of luck to you in the future. i assume you were in the military (korea) thanks for your service. i hope i'm not discrediting your wife. :)
To All Those Interested: "venushumantrap" has added some updates to The Compound which will give you a good idea of how far things have progressed the last couple of years. Check out his channel!
Great job it was funny your camara guy, Hi MIKE,what you got here MIKE,what are those MIKE,thats great MIKE, are those chicks MIKE show me over there MIKE.
Aren't pigs, fishes, cows and chickens awesome, too? I don't see any difference. If you eat pigs and it's ok, it should be ok to eat dogs or cats, too.
