I find myself feeling much pressure to become selfless, but at the same time I feel it is self-ISH for me to desire to be such a way. I want to be a selfless person others can look to for help, but the feeling of love from others is still part of my intention.....what do i do? How did the buddha overcome this issue?

Everything is always change even love. Attachment in love is suffering. Why? Feeling in love is always change, sometime less, sometime more, sometime get boring, some time desire to find some other the love, some time would like to stay alone. Love is changing, uncertain. The root of suffering is love. We love everything. We love house, we love car, we love father we love mother, we love lady, we love education, we love traveling, we love song, we love smell and everybody love self the most. They love their body. These are call attachment. Attachment bring us suffering. When someone or something we love die or leave, we will sad or sorrow. That is our feeling in mind. Without attachment we will not sad or sorrow. We do attachment because of "self". if no self, attachment cannot stay with selfless. That is why we have to be consciousness or be mindfulness in love and do not attach too much in love. Things are not belong to us or anybody. They will leave or gone or die someday cannot take them with us when we die.

No worries just be selfless and helpful and patient with others and the love will just be there. So much so that there would be no need to fear that you have to hold on to it.
