That’s up to the new owner. Carb cleaning, new starter, new tires, new battery, new filter. Plus getting it to work! Of course it ain’t a $350 atv now.
Nice work. Upholstery tip: After the cover comes off. Use a clothing steamer and steam the foam. The steam lets the foam rise back to it's original shape. Then apply the new cover.
Ha, I had 2 friends helping me put a new cover on my 400EX and it is a bit crooked 😅 good job he did for doing it solo. Thanks I will remember about the steamer next time
To buy a brand-new 4-wheel drive like that it's probably about 8 to $10,000 and he basically made it look like brand new again that's what I do with everything I rebuild
Remember, it could have been a turd with tons of problems, you took the gamble, filmed the work so if you want to keep it, no problem, it’s yours. If you planned to sell for a profit, offer it to the seller for a fair price, similar to the open market. His laziness is not your issue.
Several of us all bought that same model back in 1988, I had mine for 30 years, one buddy blew his up after sinking it in a lake, another ran his into a tree at full speed when it was only a few months old, and another guy traded his in for something with better suspension travel. Mine was like new with only a few hundred miles on it, I put similar tires on mine but liked the original tires better. The original tires gave the bike a softer ride which helped since it had nearly no suspension travel. The Kenda tires were hard and seemed to bog down in sugar sand but were better in mud and wet dirt. They weren't wearing well though, showing lots of wear after only a few months of light use. Once the edges were off the tread they lost a ton of grip. A few people told me to age them first for a few years before using them because it hardens the rubber and makes them more durable. While that likely does work I needed tires right away because my original tires were cracked badly and leaking. I had tubed them in the 90's but the tubes were showing when I replaced them. Tubes also suck because it means you can no longer just carry a plug kit for a quick fix while out riding. If a plug can't fix it, then a tube isn't going help either. Mine looked like new having been used mostly as a yard machine at my old place and it was kept clean and stored indoors. but it took forever to sell when I was done with it. I listed it for $1500 and got nothing but $400 or lower offers or people with no cash on FB and CL. I finally traded it for a farm tractor about 9 years ago.
Had the previous, neglectful, owner taken the quad to a Suzuki service centre for quads it may have possibly cost him $1000 - $1500. However, he SOLD it for $350 and lost (after repairs) what is obviously a very good quad. What a find and a bargain.
The old ATV's had such a cool look to them. The new ones all look the same. I love the old Hondas. Can't believe you found one that didn't have the fenders all busted off.
I'm sure he's appreciative of all the positive comments. I think we can all agree that he's a business man and if he's going to sell it back to the previous owner. He won't do it for nothing. Another great revival. Gotta love Hondas. Especially pre 2000's
You did a great job, as usual! Unfortunately, people who don't do stuff like that seem to think everything is simple easy, and cheap. I think you probably do a good job of documenting the purchases and time spent - as you should. You can't do as much stuff if you give away your time and don't recover your expenses. I'm actually saying this for my own benefit - I need to practice what I preach!
Oh yes I've done this stuff all the time it takes a lot of time and a lot of work so you got to be totally devoted and sometimes it could cost you a pretty penny to God bless
When I was a little boy anything made in Japan was frowned upon as “inferior & cheap” but nowadays those same machines are still running & looked upon as some of the best ever manufactured ie your Honda quad.
It’s STILL like that with cars too and it makes about as much sense as wearing clown shoes to a business meeting. American products are not at all what they used to be and we should stop pretending they are.
When I was a kid in the early 1960s Japanese stuff was inferior. But they changed that 100% by the '70s or ''80s. It wasn't by accident, either. It was hard work and superior materials, just like how we used to do it in the US.
Love that old model. Never in a million years would I be lucky enough to find one in that good of condition (where I live anyway) and for that price. Doesn't look like it's ever done any serious off-roading judging by the condition of the skid-plate and plastics. No wander they want to buy it back. I think I'd have to keep it or make a really good profit from it. Great project. I really enjoy watching your videos.
Nice job Joe.! Your a dam good channel and i been following you for years. Love everything you do and you have came a long ways.! Keep up the wonderful work
What stapler is this, I need to do some upholstery work on my kitchen high seats. Their cracked and need some love. Point me in the right direction brothers.
I got this monster going good. Took a lot of labor and some parts, mostly electrical and fuel tank. Crazy, front and back tires are same size. Gives it great wide stance. Just a heavy quad but Hella fun. 21x 9x 12 Buckshots on it. I think they're original, in good shape, no leaks.
would of been nice to see the rear brake shoe install and possibly service the shaft going through to brake shoes with new lube. Also the front brakes too. I noticed an adjustment hole plug missing on the front hub. Just to see the actual front bake adjustment when all 4 tires were up and off the ground as it is needed to adjust the brakes properly. Still it took much work and time to do what you already accomplished. Great job.....Pete
What a smokin' deal! You scored bigtime on that ATV, and it is a useful tool as well as fun to buzz around on. I can see why the PO wants to get it back.....!! Thanks Joe!
3000 g IDK I like um better than these new ones at 6999,7999,8999, 9999, u get it. Don't get me wrong Rubicon 500 nice ride but when starts shifting funny grinds put in d n r. Yeah to much going on shift motors . Computer not for me something going take out brush mud going hunting. I could make nice one if had coins . Old xr 600 motor Rubicon frame, running gear. Oh a 4x4 with a clutch and shaft drive. Nice. No computer. Cable 4x2 shift I don't need electric but is nice till don't work
It's best to throw the seat cover in the dryer for a few minutes to warn up the vinyl up. Makes it way better for stretching it over the seat..Isn't there an oil filter
Damn right he spent a lot of time and some money to that s*** ain't cheap you'll be foolish to give it back to him or even sell it to him without a really decent profit because that brand-new is at least ten Grand
Don't be greedy dude, people get sellers remorse, I get being compensated for the parts and labor but having the attitude you are displaying is shitty, doesn't make for a good neighbor.
@@truthdefenders- Who said anything about being a good neighbor? Is it a good neighbor to undervalue your stuff, not realize the thing is out of gas rather than it having a bad fuel filter, then when someone with more knowledge, skill, and smarts, buys it for what you sell it for and then fixes it up and you want it back? That's not a good "neighbor". It's not "seller's remorse" when the thing is fixed up. Seller's remorse is calling the same or next day and saying, "I don't really want to sell it, would you sell it back to me?"
Would the seller have give him the $350 back if he couldn’t get it going? Probably not. It’s called making adult decisions and accepting the outcome of your decisions.
Just a friendly reminder those have a small oil filter behind a cover on the side of the engine. when you change it be double sure you get its orientation correct or it’ll cut off oil to the top end.
I recently stumbled across your videos and got hooked. We just had a hurricane come through FL. I wanted to say thank you! I rebuilt both carbs on my generators. I got them both running like new, because I watched your videos. Thank you again! You saved our butts
You should watch James Cordon for generator repair. He is the most detailed and cleanest generator mechanic I’ve ever seen on RU-vid. Just watch his stuff if you don’t need to do repairs, it’s amazing to see how thorough he is.
I really like those Tires, Price is very affordable too!! 👍 That Quad and that Mower deck is a match made in Heaven!!! Excellent job Joe, I love your passion for these machines and equipment! Keep it up Buddy!!
Joe you're a master at your trade, and got that quad up and running. So tell numb nuts to kick out some large ones if he wants the quad back. Great video my man! Too funny @ Vinny.
I go through too many tires to pay someone else to do it. Bought a simple tire stand 20 years ago so I don’t have to bend over. Once the bead is broken with good lube and simple tire irons most mower and ATV times come on/off easily. Have to know to use the drop in the rim for bead 180° from where you are working. Then the hard part is airing the tire the first time.
I bought one new in 86, it was the best quad I ever owned, in 96 I sold it for the same price I purchased it for, Last month that guy sold it to a guy a town over and he was thrilled to get it.... I put just myself, thousands of miles on it. Greatest of the Honda Lineup quads ever made, just my opinion 😋
Indestructable quads from the '80s! I had a 2wd 1986 honda 200SX. It was my first quad as a kid and I loved it. The fenders were fragile, but all else was solid!
Been looking for one locally, they are a good workhorse, but people want so much for junk nowadays. Not sure if the owner really wants it back, but I'd be a definite no on that. These things are getting more rare each year.
I love these bikes, my Buddy's dad had one he would let us ride when we were kids. First real quad I got to ride and his was a trx300 all time 4x4. I learned to handle and shift a quad before buying my own 400ex !
I am sure you already noticed, but a bunch of debris blew out of the Briggs engine when you started it. Might have had a critter nest by the cooling fan on top of the head. You should pull the cover and check it out so as not to overheat the engine. 32:10
I have the same quad i use for plowing my driveway, picked mines up for 900$ on Craigslist had some shifting issues it wanted to take off by itself when i put it in 1st gear so i adjusted the clutch and its been running good ever since. They are really awesome little machines
Great job dude! Look forward to your videos. Always neat to see old stuff come back to life. You are right up there with Mustie1 now. Thanks for the fun! Would that mower have an offset hitch so you dont have to drive through the unmowed grass and allow you to mow closer to the trees without scratching everything?
Make sure you check air pressure, when they set those beads they can iver inflate them to the virge of popping! Been there done that, run bout 10 in front and 7 to 10 in back.
I sprayed adhesive in my bad foam spots on the seat then sprayed foam in each bad spot. I then used an electric kitchen knife to shape it then sanded it smooth and it works fantastic!
Awesome videos, I just picked one of these in MINT shape for only $100, seller didn't know what was wrong with it and wanted it gone. Would not start, gas cap was not tight. Got it home tightened the gas cap and it fired up, but it doesn't idle off choke, so it's time to clean the carb. I will be referencing your videos. Thanks @2vintage !
Love the channel, always a learning moment. Thinking evolution, as the 3-wheeler gave way to the Quad, is the quad giving way to the side by side? 🐕Vinny doing inventory/quality control
The seat covers go on really easy if you leave them in the sun for a while. On some tyres the direction of rotation is reversed on the front wheels. Good work.
Great work as always it turned out to be a great one iv always liked these quads my pap use to have one for hunting an it was a beast like the new tires they look like they will eat up snow mud salute to you bro your a monster when it comes to working on stuff very knowledgeable an always learning something
I have Kenda Bear Claws on my 1999 300 Fourtrax, couldn't be happier with them...very good tires in my opinion...stock tires suck even when they're not worn & rotten... you made the right call... that's a cool & unique looking bike... I'd keep it... good job on it! 🖖🏿😎👍🏿
it's nice you show us prices of stuff appreciate it. I'm working on my first four-wheeler we got it free from a family member a little back. Polaris trail boss 325 got a carb in it just Tryna figure out where all my lines go now.
Was thinking upholstery.. a few staples and ride/break it in awhile later remove staples and stretch it in with all staples.. after everythings warmed up in the sun.
I skimmed through most of the other comments just to see if anyone else saw that glaring óops! When you are disconnecting a battery ALWAYS disconnect the negative FIRST and when connecting the battery always connect the POSITIVE FIRST! This will save you from getting shocked or having a short circuit spark. It potentially could cause a fire!
Most small engine mechanics charge $100/hr so you got $820 plus maybe 3 hrs so maybe $1200 buy back. Seat looks new also other listed similar sold at $1500 so really up to owner in what is a good price for buyer in seller.
Pulls the mower. Perfect fit. About $1000 and yt money pays that. All profit. Win win. Sweet. 😊 That seller sold to cheap now having second thoughts. 😢
No surprise the previous owner would want that back, especially after you put somewhere in the neighborhood of well over $1,000 in work and parts into it!! No WAY I'd let that beautiful machine go for anything less than 5,000 bucks! That's a workhorse and they don't make them like that anymore, no way!
