After 26 years of boating and always moving up, we have decided to sell Boogaboo to take a break from cruising for awhile to do some traveling. We will be getting a smaller boat, but not until next year - a cuddy cabin style boat to do local day trips with. And yes, I'll still be sharing boating videos, as well take you along on the new adventures as we do a bit of local travel, visiting the spots we never had a chance to over the past years.
If you are interested in the listing for the boat, please follow the following link. If the listing is not available, that means the boat has already sold. And PLEASE, any questions on the boat should ONLY go through the listing site, as I will not respond to 'selling' queries here on RU-vid. www.autotrader...

Wow, so many comments agreeing boating is getting boring. For me, boating takes so much stress off me from work! I love working on my boat. I love where I go with my boat. For me, its worth every cent I spend on my boat because it gives me something to look forward to on the weekend. Sorry you lost your mojo but you will find it again!

I've been right there for many years. Couldn't wait to get to the boat on Friday, looked for projects to do and planned all year for our summer getaways. Nowadays, although I still love the boat, the spark has dimmed and ready for new adventures. That said, I'm actually planning on stuff I'm gonna have to do on the next Boogaboo, but no rush. Hope you stick around to see where we land next.

I admire Anchor Girl's toughness, and you for close to 1,000 amazing boating videos, like, OMG!! You're the reason I bought a Sea Ray 340 Sundancer three years ago and why I can maintain most of it myself... I'm still at the stage where I'm enjoying it and I keep re-watching your videos many times over, especially during winter, lol. Your channel is bigger than boating: it's an evolutionary and feel-good environment with your unique perspective... my favourite on RU-vid and I'm looking forward to any video you decide to post, including about your next boat. Change is refreshing. I just ordered 2 Boogaboo T-shirts! Can't wait to receive them and wear them on the boat, then I've got to try a Corona soon :))

Wife and I bought a 1996 Cruisers Yachts 3580 flybridge in 2017, never boated before, found your channel and all the helpful maintenance tips and made a good time with our boat for about 5 years but then reached that point where it was too much stress and the new adventures had worn off and she was sitting in the marina waiting for the next hurricane to hit NC. Sold her in 2022 and bought a 20' bow rider and love boating now on a different "basic" level. Trailer in trailer out of the water when we please. Every part of the boating journey has its reason so we look back and have great experiences and memories but the next chapter was much smaller. Fuel tank is much smaller also! Thanks for helping us along the way!

Wow. I didn’t think you guys would ever get to the point we were at 4 years ago! We were beholden to our 370 just like you. But once we made the decision it was liberating. Besides the obvious removal of expenses, we wanted to do other things in the summer. We sold in March 2020 and I remember you saying you couldn’t believe we were selling our beautiful 370! I totally get it. Travel plans were delayed for obvious stupid reasons, but we finally did our Oregon Coast tour for 2 weeks last year. I wish you great luck in finding your smaller toy and look forward to following the journey! Great decision in my opinion and explained very well.

I appreciate your insights on something like this, as your perspective appears to be in line with where we are right now. An emotional decision, but as you say, liberating! It seems that almost every day we come up with new potential travel destinations to spend a few weekends - or longer. This just feels right for us and we are really looking forward to getting back to a smaller 'pocket cruiser' to enjoy time with. And of course, it's gotta be wake shot worthy as well 😁

I thought about getting a boat in retirement and said to my wife, if we did this for like 5 years I think that would be more than enough. There are many places in the world I would like to see and I feel like if I had a boat I would need to be fully committed to that. Follow your passions and take it as far as you can take it, until you can take it no farther and then move on to whatever is the most exciting thing is. Just don’t have any insistence on where that new passion takes you.

First of all, I am glad that Anchor Girl was not seriously injured when she fell. I totally understand downsizing as I went from a Silverton 41 Convertible down to my Sea Ray 340. One of the huge barriers to boating for most people is cost. If you move to a smaller boat, you could perform a great service by showing people how to boat/cruise while spending much less than bigger boats cost. What's needed, what's not, how to cook, shower, use the bathroom facilities, and so on. Just a thought. Cheers

I can completely relate to the feeling of being beholden to the boat during the summer months. We've had a few conversations about selling it, but then we get a stretch of beautiful summer days and we get out on the boat, do some day trips and a couple overnights and it sucks us back in for another season.
@BoatingWithBoogaboo
@BoatingWithBoogaboo Месяц назад
Up to a couple of years ago, we would have been right there! But with a few less than positive experiences since last summer, including weather that hasn't cooperated most weekends, plus a couple of other things, they swayed us to this decision. I'm also looking forward to retirement in the not too distant future, so that plays into it. Again, we're not totally getting out of boating and will have another one for next summer. Different, but something we are really looking forward to.

Just a a FYI…..I was cleaning my boat 2 weeks ago. I started to feel dizzy, weak, nauseated and faint……I decided I better get below in the AC. I started puking (just water as I was drinking a lot to beat heat)….I was sick for 3 days (I should have gone to get IV fluids)…….I totally hear and get what you are saying about the monotony of doing the same thing and seeing the same places. You are burnt out. Thats okay. You only live once so do what you want for yourself”both” of you. Take a year off. Just listening to anchor girl, you are doing the right thing. Get a class B van and do that for a season…..Come see me at the penitentiary
@BoatingWithBoogaboo
@BoatingWithBoogaboo Месяц назад
Wow, sorry to hear that John. As with yourself, Anchor Girl had the same symptoms and was still dizzy (although diminishing) for the next week. Not sure if was heat related, but might very well be. She went through the same thing last summer, ironically the day after we came back from the exact same spot (Kirkfield Lift Lock) a day earlier.. As for that Class B, we have looked at doing something like that many times over the past couple of years, but I don't think I could bring myself to driving to a parking lot (which most campsites are) for days in end. Our preferences these days runs more along the lines of a hotel or resort type of setting. But we shall see what our future brings... And I'll be sure to put in a good word with the warden for you 😂

Greetings from the Desert Southwest! Many years ago, my husband asked me if I would like to do some camping. I said ok, as long as we had a loo and a bed. We went from a tent to a 32' Winnebago. As time went on, I stopped enjoying camping, since it got expensive to gas up the motorhome, the long drives up to the mountains, how hot it got to be, and worst of all, the crazies in the woods. All in all,I did not shed a tear when we gave it up. A change is as good as a rest, they say. Glad Anchor girl did not suffer any ill effects from her mishap. Look forward to the next adventure! We looked at getting a 'winter boat' in Florida a number of years ago, but determined that it would be way more work than the benefits could justify. Hurricanes, barnacles, storage, as well as the salt destroying everything made it something that wouldn't work for us. We found that renting a condo on the beach was far easier. Locking the door when we left with no worries about damage or insurance (which is getting prohibitively expensive/hard to find) proved to be our best option.

Love your videos. I totally get where you are coming from. My first boat was a great cuddy cabin. It was in a marina for the first few years, but then we bought a trailer and loved to take it to different parts of Ontario for boating. Kids were young and we all had a great time! The kids got older and we moved to a 40' flybridge for several years. Kids grew up and moved away, and we moved to a two stateroom Aft-Cabin to have more room for adult guest to stay. Kids grew a bit older, started families, and we found ourselves not using the boat near as much as we did before. Funny, as the family gets bigger the available time to hang out on the water decreases with family activities that are now pulling us to other places. So, with a desire to travel a bit, and to travel with our children and grandchildren, we sadly made the decision to sell the boat and start thinking about other priorities. We loved our years with our boat(s) and would never trade the experiences we had, but like you guys, it's time to explore new horizons! 🙂
@BoatingWithBoogaboo
@BoatingWithBoogaboo Месяц назад
Sounds like you had similar experiences as us. We started with a 24' cuddy, then moved up and up to our 400 Sedan Bridge before dropping down, then back up. Phew! That sounded like a lot of work 😂 But as you discovered, life changes and moving priorities, age and grandkids all come together to influence life decisions. After pondering this shift for a while, we're looking forward to shifting paths...

Hi Anchor Girl, sorry about your fall but glad you did not get badly hurt. I suffer from vertigo and never know when it is going to hit me. I always have Gravol on me as it really helps. I cut the tablets in to quarters as sometimes that is all I need to be able to go on with my day. A full tablet when needed usually just makes me want to sleep. Paul here. I've passed your thoughts and wishes in to Anchor Girl,thanks from both of us. I too suffered from major dizzy spells a number of years ago. They always came without warning and at least four times was thrown in the ground by an invisible force, not unlike what Anchor Girl experienced on our last voyage. Luckily for me, those episodes faded to nothing probably 15 years ago, I'm happy to report. Very weird, indeed.

25 years is plenty of dwell time in a hobby….you’ve covered what you wanted, you’ve done enough to satiate your curiosity. Of course, in your scenario you have to put the boat up for winter and all that goes with that winterizing, and, your not on big waters where you can bust out a touchdown and go to places like The Keys in Florida or the Channel Islands off the CoAst of SoCal….sell it and move on to a new mode. In Southern California, the boat life is essentially 12 months and there are a tremendous amount of journeys to take…..for me it’s the journey, not the destination. For your new boat get a Whaler 220 Dauntless and that will reinvigorate you. 😂😊😅

Take a look at the video I did in the Spring where I replaced our aft air conditioner unit with a retrofit kit. It's 6,000 BTU and works great! Best pert is that it + the water pump only draw around 5 amps, so I'm thinking that a portable 2,000 watt genny should be able to handle that. Like yourself, I'm also considering the possibility of having to install something similar on our next boat...

Wow, I couldn't imagine a two hour ride to and from the boat! We've actually looked at other marinas over the years, but anything more than a 30 minute drive would kill the desire to go to the boat. It's not the distance or time, necessarily, but where we're located the roads are jamb packed on Fridays and Sundays with all the cidiots making the drive and that would drive (pun intended) me crazy. Sorry to hear about your wife's injury. We've heard too many horror stories of folks falling and hurting themselves while boating. Sadly, it always seems to be the woman as they tend to be the ones handling lines, fenders, etc. while hubby drives the boat. Glad she's okay!

Wow. I was making the same assessment. The past two seasons I’ve barely used my boat, in fact, I haven’t moved it from the dock since I put in back in May and I just got my winter storage bill today. It’s probably due to a variety of reasons, including weather, costs, time constraints and just lack of interest. Just driving the 35 miles to the marina has become a chore. I’ve noticed a few other boaters at the marina have fallen into the same rut. For the amount I’m spending each year I could take a couple of nice trips. I’m fortunate that I never got two-foot-itist so I have a smaller, single engine and easier to maintain boat for decades so it’s not breaking me but being retired on a fixed income, every penny counts. I’ll give it two more years and make a life changing decision of sell/keep then. Might I suggest a 270 Sundancer, with the 454 Mercruiser? Excellent boat and you can spend a weekend on it but it’s still trailerable. It can handle rough water or shallow coves with ease. Parts are plentiful and there are usually a decent number at decent prices for sale each season. My dream boat would be the small Ranger Tug or Cutwater with the outboard but they are rare on the Lakes and new ones are ridiculously expensive. Good luck on your decision.

I have several years on you folks, but there's so much to see and do out there and to be limited by boat probably isn't the best use of the years (summers) remaining. Between boats a few years ago, we spent two summers touring the western US and Canadian provinces. It was a "Why did we wait so long to do this" experience. The answer was, because we have a boat. I'm thinking it's time for a rack stored cuddy outboard within an hour of the house that might be in my future. Hi Paul, I know you have a video that addresses the throttle adjustments? I am noticing that my port throttle is pretty stiff compared to the starboard throttle shifter. Do you know the name of that video or can you drop a link that I can click on? By the way, I am glad you are going to keep going with your videos. Good luck with the sale of your boat. Thanks

I haven't done one to this point, but just might if I find some time. Keep an eye out And yes, I'll still keep producing new videos!

After 4 years we found the bang for the buck wasn't there. We sold are Carver 350 Mariner this spring to move on to other travel. We're renting a LeBoat in Sept for a week to scratch our itch. Are you two getting a motorhome? I know you thought of that a few years ago. Thanks for the memories Paul.

Wow, only four years into it and called it quits. That's quick. As for us, we got 26 years of boating together + many years more from when I was a (younger) kid. It's always gonna be in the blood, so we're not completely getting out of boating, just down sizing and a bit of travel by road. Not a motorhome though - that's really like work 😂

It’s a bit selfish on my part but I like to go out on the boat solo for even weeks at a time. Different paradigm to your situation . Also I live somewhere I can use the boat most of the year. You should try chartering in the Med or Whitsundays or Caribbean maybe, all that boating expertise would play out well. Anyway , I saw my. -parents get out after 40 years and they they went to caravanning , less cost and maintenance. The best of luck and enjoyment with your next steps. Whomsoever buys your boat will get something maintained well above and beyond the norm.

Maybe time to reconsider the Loop? Cruise through the parts you've been through and get to new territory

I can say with complete confidence, we will not ever be doing the Great Loop. Simply not appealing for us. I believe I posted a video on the subject a couple of years ago...

@@BoatingWithBoogaboo Yes I watched it back then. Don't remember all the reasons you said, but you were pretty much against doing it. Asked because sometimes things change. I will enjoy watching your new videos regardless.

A lot of comments here really remind me how people come from many perspectives. I am of the opposite mindset; we used to travel all over and got a boat so that I could go party at LOTO yet have some stability. Different strokes for different folks. Will you segment the boat stuff from your other adventures on a different channel? I used to watch another channel that went away from boating and it was super frustrating searching past all their new stuff for the boating videos.

RV!! I love my Searay but Rv'ing will be in my future some day.

I'm not ready (if ever) to do the RV thing. We seriously looked at a travel trailer a few years back, but my impression of many campsites is that they are no more than glorified parking lots - unless you shell out major $$ for something more attractive or secluded.

Life is too short to settle for something, if it's not scratching that itch. I'm planning on a travel van to do some road touring.

Awesome! If we were (much) younger, we just might've done the same thing.
