So helpful. I took your advice and showed the owner of the pets I am almost finished with the progress photo. I reminded her to be honest, and she finally said she thought the small dog’s eyes should be larger. That’s an easy fix, and valuable feedback no one else could have given. It’s a step I have forgotten or even avoided in the past, and I agree it’s more professional to do it.

Very helpful! I need to allow a lot more time for drying and varnishing. Love the packaging tips. I've been terrible about #6 - giving art away. Sometimes it's as a gift or a thank you, other times it's when someone asks if I could paint their pet or one they know that passed away... they say they'll pay me, but we never discuss a fee. And, I just give it away.

Hello there Linda!! You are ALWAYS so generous. Definitely listen to that big heart. If you feel led give your creativity away, I agree that's important. When you feel taken advantage of though, that's when it's time to discuss payment upfront, even half payment or even 25% down, at least something. I'm glad you enjoyed the packaging tips, many people have been asking about that lately. I'm now starting to enjoy that aspect. Before it used to give me so much stress. Thank you for sharing your beautiful art and tutorials Lauren. I love seeing them. So very informative! And you’ve got some beautiful kids! Question please: let’s say you packaged your art work very carefully, correctly and securely, but it gets damaged in transit. This means the recipient did not receive what they paid for - but through no fault of your own. What would be the best way to handle that? TIA

What a great question! So in my contract I say the payment is non-refundable. Even if it does gets damaged, lost, or stolen. However, incase the piece does get damaged (even with great effort on my end in the packaging) I make it clear I’ll take 30% OFF the final balance for the second painting to replace the first one. Does this make sense?

@@laurenelizabethanimalart3215 yes it does, thank you. I appreciate your quick reply. That’s why having a contract is definitely a good thing. I paint pet portraits/memorials and I would hate to paint a second portrait of a pet. It would never be as good as the first, in my opinion. 💖🐾🐈
